Chapter 1180

"I called her. I am going to visit her later,” Anne said.

“There's no need.”

Anne scowled. "Why not? Uncle, this isn't right. You are hurting two people at once.”

“I know what I'm doing.” Corentin did not want to continue the discussion.

Meredith walked over and leaned closer to Corentin. “What are you two talking about? Anne, you have such a stern look on your face.”

“You must have great eyes if you can tell the look on my face despite the mask,” Anne said. Meredith shot her a malicious sneer.

Corentin wrapped his arm around Meredith's shoulders. “Let's eat. Are you hungry?”

“I am starving. You are so good to me, Corentin.”

"Anne, enjoy the party,” he said before leaving with Corentin.

Anne watched as they interacted lovingly and felt sorry for Ashlynn.

She turned to head to the bathroom and was about to enter the ladies’ room, when Anthony came after her. “Anne, don't wander off.”

Beth, who was about to exit the bathroom, heard Anthony's voice. Seeing how much he seemed to care for his wife, Beth decided not to interrupt their conversation.

“I'm just going to the bathroom,” Anne said.

"What did you talk to Corentin about?” Anthony questioned sharply.

“I asked him about Ashlynn,” Anne said, confused by Anthony's reaction

“Leave those two be.”

"I didn’t want to ask him about it at first, but... Ashlynn is pregnant. How can Corentin get engaged with Meredith now?” Anne was furious.

Beth listened to their conversation with confusion, wondering who Ashlynn was, whose child she was bearing and how she was related to Corentin.

"Whatever. I don't want to talk about it. I'm going to the toilet,” Anne said.

Beth snuck to hide in a corner and came outside after Anne left. She went out to search for Meredith, but could not find her, so she went to Jeremy, who was speaking to a beautiful woman, and asked, “Where's your cousin?”

“I don't know. Maybe the powder room?”

Beth went into the powder room and found Meredith touching up her makeup. “I finally found you.” “I didn’t know that an engagement party could be this tiring.” Meredith did not mention that Corentin had left her to make a business call, as he claimed,

“Are you not happy?” Beth sat down next to her with a smile and asked.

“Corentin should be the happy one. He managed to get engaged to the daughter of the Hilton Family. He got lucky.” Meredith had been raised like a princess and had been proudly known for her connections and social abilities.

Beth knew Meredith like the back of her hand and knew that despite what Meredith was saying, she loved Corentin with all her heart.

Corentin was considered a perfect match for Meredith, mainly because he had not been seen with other women and had always remained a controlled, composed man. However, after what Beth had overheard from Anne and Anthony, she was worried that Meredith might have been fooled. “Is Corentin seeing any other woman?”

"What... Women? No!” Meredith's eyes darted away.

"Who's Ashlynn, then?” Beth asked.

Meredith's expression darkened. She stood and walked over to the window to stare at the scenery outside. "Just a woman from the slum!"

“The slum?” Recalling what her son had said, Beth instantly pictured a cheap, uneducated woman before her. “So it's true? How could Corentin do such a thing?”
