5. The Lycan King

BETH

“Who are you?” I couldn’t help but ask.

It wasn’t possible, or was it? As it stands, I’m married to Darren even if he walked out, so why do I have another mate?

“I am Ethan Hawthorne, Lycan king of the Dragon fire pack, and you are my mate.” He replied in a stern and firm tone, taking me by surprise.

“But how?” I was frantic.

“I am married to another, and he is my mate,” I explained to him.

“You mean Darren Hampton? Alpha of the Redmoon pack? The one who had only wanted you for what he could get from you?” He remarked.

The skin between my brows creased.

“What are you talking about?” I questioned.

“I am your mate, and you are my mate. Last night, I saved you from some weakling who tried to abduct you. I can see you have no idea who you are,” he stated.

“What do you mean?” I inquired.

“I have done a lot of research about you while you were unconscious. I’ve heard what you’ve been going through, and I will make sure to punish those who hurt you in for the past.”

From the way he sounded, I couldn’t tell he meant it, but there was just something I was yet to understand. I didn’t care for his help after all life hadn’t been fair to me, and I couldn’t trust myself.

I trusted Darren, but what did I get in return? Betrayal and disgrace. Dareen rescued me and promised to protect me, but in the end, he didn’t.

This stranger who appears to be my mate or second chance mate, which I wasn’t sure of saved me too and is vowing to protect me and punish those who hurt me.

How could I believe him? If truly Darren wanted to be with me for what I could give to him, how am I sure that he wasn’t trying to do the same?

“I do not need your help,” I stated in a firm tone.

“I am not asking for you to take my help because it’s only right for me to do right by you. You are mine, Beth. I will make sure the whole world knows that, and I will make sure to punish those who had hurt you. I am not just saying these words, but I mean them,” he stated, emphasizing his words.

I shuttered from how his words reverberated in the room.

Just then, the door opened, and someone entered.

“Who are you?” Darren questioned, making his way into the room as he walked past Ethan.

“Just the right person at the right time,” Ethan replied, and now both men were standing face to face.

They both stood at the same height, neither intimidated by the other as they stared at one another.

“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” Darren questioned.

“You came just the right time, and I will get straight to the point. Listen and listen carefully. You will divorce Beth because she is mine, ” Ethan stated in a firm tone, which surprised me because he sounded so confident.

“What? And who are you to think that you can tell me what to do?”

I didn’t know how and when, but the next thing I saw was Ethan holding Darren’s neck firmly and giving him no room to fight back.

“I’ve heard of you, Alpha Darren of the Redmoon pack. I know just exactly who you are, but you don’t know who I am, and so I will be introducing myself to you.”

“I am Lycan King Ethan of the Dragon Fire pack, and the woman you married and humiliated because you never loved her is mine. She is my mate and I will be the one she belongs to. You will divorce her, or I promise you that you will regret it,” Ethan uttered, holding firmly to Darren’s neck.

I gasped in surprise as my eyes widened. I have never seen Darren bested before, and just who was Ethan?

“In your dreams, you think I’d let her go. She’s mine and not yours!” Darren retorted.

My heart was pounding in my chest from the intensity. They were both glaring at each other, but Ethan was more composed.

Ethan threw Darren right across the room, and the door flew open.

A scream accompanied it. Who is Ethan? Where did he come from?

“Who are you? How dare you!” It was Cara who had questioned Ethan.

Ethan paid no attention to her as he made his way towards Darren.

“If you won’t give her up, then I will make you,” Ethan said.

“Fine!” Darren voiced out as he got back on his feet.

“If she’s the one that you want, then you can have her. It’s not like she’s special anyway. She’s just a weak, useless Omega, and I can promise you that you’d regret going this far to have her,” Darren said.

I felt my heart shatter. His words hurt me. He had jilted me, betrayed me, cheated on me, and now belittled me.

I never thought I’d hear him say words like that about me. It hurt so much.

This only meant he had been lying to me from the very beginning. He never cared and loved me. He only wanted me for a purpose, which I was here to know of, and when he didn’t get it, he decided I was worth it.

“How dare you speak of my woman in such a manner!” Ethan growled.

I felt my wolf jump in joy, although my body was weak and saddened by the words of Darren. The man I love had just spoken ill of me, and another who happens to be my mate was fighting for me.

“You will never speak of my woman in such a way. Disrespecting my woman is disrespecting me, and I will not tolerate any disrespect for my woman,” Ethan snarled.

I felt a jolt of electricity run down my spine. He claimed me and was ready to fight for me. Seeing him say those words only reminded me of Darren, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to trust those words again.
