Chapter 41

Heldi was unaccustomed to such treatment. She struggled and cursed, "Clara, you hit me? Believe It or not, I can make sure your dad rots in jail!"

The mention of her father only fueled Clara's anger, and she doubled down on her grip.

"If your parents didn't know how to raise you right, then I guess it falls on me to teach your a lesson."

Heidi was shorter than Clara, and having always been pampered and spoiled, she was no match for Clara's strength. Minutes later, Heidi's face resembled a swollen pumpkin.

Through gritted teeth and pain, Heidi hissed, "Clara, you're gonna regret this!" With that, she clutched her face and ran off.

Clara looked at her reddened palm, her eyes still simmering with resentment. The trouble Heidi had caused wasn't something a few slaps could resolve.

Clara had clawed her way out of the gutter once, and she wasn't about to let Heidi push her back down.

She composed herself and headed back to her office to work. Half an hour later, Dawson rushed in, tapping her desk.

"Ms. Clara, Mr. Hayes wants to see you. Ms. Heidi's been telling tales, claiming you hit her."

He looked at her concernedly. "Leonora's with her, and they don't look too happy. Be careful."

Unruffled, Clara stood up from her chair and said calmly, "No one can pin something on me that I didn't do." With that, she confidently walked to the CEO's office.

Upon entering, she saw Heidi weeping dramatically in Leonora's arms. "Ian, my face doesn't hurt anymore, but if I go home like this, my dad and brother will never let Clara off the hook. She's been harboring resentment because of that incident with Ms. Sasha, and I get it. Letting her vent by hitting me is fine. Just don't make trouble for Clara. After all, she did donate blood to me once, and I can't forget that kindness."

Clara nearly laughed out loud! Heidi was wasting her talent for not being in the showbiz. Clara glanced around the room with a composed expression and asked, "What happened to Ms. Heidi's face? Does it have anything to do with me?"

Leonora glared at her furiously. "Clara, you hit someone and now you're playing innocent? What kind of chief secretary are you? lan, I demand you fire her on the spot and make her apologize to Heidi." Clara sneered. "Leonora, did you see me hit her?"

"Heidi sald you did. Are you saying she's lying?"

"Leonora, you're a graduate from a prestigious university yourself, with a degree in law if I'm not mistaken. As a law school graduate, you should still remember the basics. To accuse someone, you need evidence and witnesses. So, aside from Heidi's word, did anyone else see me hit her? Is there evidence that those marks on her face came from me? If not, then I'd appreciate it if you didn't slander an innocent person without cause."

Leonora was taken aback. When had this infuriating woman become so sharp-tongued and even dared to insinuate she was old? Fuming, Leonora spat out, "lan, look at her! Does she look like a chief secretary to you? She's no different from a crazy barfly."

"Let's stick to the facts and avoid personal attacks, Leonora. Otherwise, I'll also resort to legal means to protect myself."

lan watched the two women argue, his forehead creased in frustration. He knew his mother's domineering presence, oppressive and commanding. Most would shrink before her. But Clara, she was like stir up if not properly reined in.
