Francis was smirking, too, and he played along with Samantha, looking intimate 

with her. 

“I didn’t know that they invited Kendrick.” Francis leaned in close to Samantha and said in a low voice. 

“It’s okay.” 

Samantha shook her head and pretended not to hear as she continued walking into the central area of the party with Francis. 

Kendrick heard what Linda said and caught Samantha’s retreating figure. 

Francis had appeared in the photographs Jude had brought over previously, and it 

wasn’t surprising for him to appear now. 

“Kenny, who’s the man beside Sophia?“As 

Linda couldn’t help laughing inwardly. This time, not only had she come to a party 

like this with Kendrick, but she’d also found Sophia’s partner. 

It was like killing two birds with one stone! 

Linda was secretly delighted, but she arranged her face to look confused. 

“He is the most important person at this party.” Kendrick was impatient. 

He preferred efficient women much more than partners like Linda, who asked too 

many questions. 

Women like Sophia… He decided to halt his thoughts there, and his personal 

feelings toward Sophia were buried in his heart once more. 

Francis threaded smoothly through the crowd with Samantha. 

Even though Francis was someone who would attract flattery from others, there were many others in his generation who were gaining power and influence. 

Everyone was sizing them up and waiting to see who would be the first.. 

“Kendrick will suspect you.” Francis clinked glasses gently with Samantha. 

“Let him suspect me then. It’ll be even better if he suspects that you sent me. 

Samantha took a sip of rich red wine and turned to look at the crowd in the distance. She regarded them for a while, then withdrew her gaze. 

She tucked a strand of hair behind her car and put the glass of wine down. She took Francis‘ arm. 

“Now I’m here to act as your girlfriend.” 

Samantha spoke in a low voice on purpose. Her womanly instincts told her that somewhere close by, there was someone watching her. 

They were gazing so intensely that she could feel it easily. 

“Thank you.” Francis thanked her sincerely. 

Following the direction of Samantha’s gaze just now, Francis relaxed, half leaning 

on Samantha as he told her about Nathan. 

Kendrick’s fingers whitened as he gripped his wine glass tightly. 

“Mr. Ford, about the events just now 

Kendrick had already strode off. 

Linda was caught off guard by Kendrick leaving all of a sudden, and she stumbled a 

few times before catching up. 

“Kenny, we haven’t finished talking yet.” 

Linda grabbed Kendrick’s arm at an opportune time to slow him down. 

Kendrick stopped and peeled Linda’s arm off of his. He said quietly, “Go and take a 

walk over there.” 

“But I-” 

“I have something I need to do.” Kendrick interrupted Linda again. 

Linda wanted to continue badgering, but Jude had already followed her and grabbed 

her arm. “Ms. Linda.” 

There was a strong warning in Jude’s eyes. 

Knowing that Kendrick had a limit, Linda did not have the courage to cross it 

despite being reluctant to leave. 

Kendrick refused to converse with any of the other bosses as he walked directly to a 

spot near Samantha. 

Samantha had just been listening to Francis talking about what Nathan had been up to lately, and she covered her mouth, laughing. 

Her eyes were full of laughter, and there was happiness in them that Kendrick had 

never seen before. 

Kendrick felt the rage in his heart bubbling up for some unknown reason. 

Apart from himself, he did not want any man next to this woman. 

Samantha felt Kendrick’s gaze burning into her and finally pulled her thoughts 

away from what Francis had said. 

She saw Kendrick in the distance, and their eyes met. 

Kendrick smiled slightly, and his chiseled features were lit up in the warm glow of 

the lights, making him look even more charming than usual. 

Samantha’s heart involuntarily skipped a beat, but she covered it up well, feeling 

rather bitter. 

She always found it hard to resist Kendrick when she saw him, but it was always 

followed by a strong feeling of hate. 

Kendrick was her enemy. 

“Mr. Ford, I didn’t think that you would be at this party, too.” 

Samantha walked up, smiling. Beside her, Francis tightened his tie as he followed 

her closely. 

“With your presence, things will be exciting here tonight, Mr. Ford.” Francis smiled 

tightly. 

The two accomplished men stood together. One was fl*ppant but loyal, the other cold and expressionless with a trail of lovers. 

Several unmarried ladies from rich families looked over at them, their faces ranging from confused to resigned. 

Samantha could feel the stares coming from all directions and raised her glass, 

smiling in amusement. 

Kendrick took a glass of wine from a waiter and clinked it with her. 

“Mr. Simmons, aren’t you going to introduce me?” Kendrick raised his eyebrows. 

“Oh? Isn’t Sophia your secretary, Mr. Ford?” Francis smiled and shot back sarcastically. 

The people around them began whispering to each other. Why was the woman with Francis also the secretary of Kendrick? 

“I didn’t know that my secretary had a boyfriend.” 

Kendrick turned an icy gaze on Samantha as he looked her up and down. She was no longer quiet and understated, nor was she elegant and refined.
