The supposed welcoming party was just an excuse for people to dance and eat. 

When the music played, a few pairs of men and women joined the dance floor and swayed along to the music. Samantha used the opportunity to conceal herself on the periphery. She held a glass of red wine and took a sip. 

As she tasted the alcohol, a smile appeared on her face. It seemed as though she was happy to sample the wine. In truth, it was because she was thinking about how her words would affect Kendrick. 

Based on Kendrick’s personality, she anticipated him to be curious. Unsurprisingly, Samantha heard Kendrick’s voice coming from behind. 

“Ms. Meadows, what did you mean by that just now? Are you implying that you made arrangements to dance with me?” 

Kendrick smiled politely. There weren’t any emotions on his stoic face. She couldn’t read him. 

Samantha’s actions for the past two days had undeniably piqued Kendrick’s interest. He had surmised that Sophia was Samantha earlier on, but she had denied it fervently. 

Kendrick had repeatedly attempted to confirm his speculation. Still, he did not. have concrete proof. Now, her appearance had captivated him completely. Whether this woman was Sophia or Samantha, Kendrick realized that he had devoted all his attention to her over the past two days. 

She had successfully captured his interest. 

As Kendrick pored over his actions, Samantha remained calm and unbothered. The question hung in the air–was she finally planning to explain herself? 

“Mr. Ford, you’re a funny man. I don’t know you. Why would I learn how to dance for you? Before I won the ‘Goddess‘ fashion show championship in Meriscape, the thought of working at Ford Corporation never crossed my mind. 

“I was busy with work, so I did not have the time to think about anything else.” 

Samantha smiled as she denied Kendrick’s claims. Kendrick did not mind that she had repudiated his words. He smiled and held Samantha’s hand that was holding her wine glass. 

“If this 

this was not deliberate on your part, then we must be fated to be.” As he spoke, he inched closer to Samantha.

Samantha’s b*dy tensed as she felt a wave of disgust. 

In the past, she had desperately wished to be intimate with Kendrick. She felt like their cozy stance was a mockery of her feelings for him in the past. 

Samantha took a deep breath before taking a step back, putting some distance between them. She loosened her grip on her glass and placed it in Kendrick’s hand. 

“You are indeed a charming man, Mr. Ford. You almost made my heart flutter,” Samantha said sarcastically with a smile. 

She reached out to retrieve her glass and downed the red wine. She was trying hard to conceal the emotions surging behind her eyes. 

Her heart had indeed raced from his words. No woman on earth would remain unflustered when such a handsome man spoke such words to them. 

She gripped her glass tightly and almost shattered it. She could only endeavor to maintain a civil smile on her face. 

“Though I wonder, how many women have you used that line on?” The smile on Samantha’s face widened as she looked at Kendrick.. 

Samantha was slightly drunk from the wine. Before she was married, she had good alcohol tolerance. She would frequent bars with Alexis to have a good time. Ever since she tied the knot with Kendrick, she had decided to stop drinking. She wanted to be a good and proper wife. 

Samantha had always controlled herself, even as she suffered abroad for many years. She refused to use alcohol to numb herself. She wanted to remember her hardships clearly, to feel the hatred. She vowed to make those who had hurt her pay the price. 

“Ms. Meadows, how many women do you think are worthy of my praise?” 

Kendrick smirked as his eyes flashed with amusement. He looked as if he could draw her soul out. 

Perhaps it was because of the alcohol that a light blush crept on Samantha’s face. Her eyes were slightly dazed, bestowing a gentle air around her.
