Athena was naturally unaware of the reason Paul didn't come back.

She felt guilty and assumed that perhaps Paul had found things weren't as bad as he'd thought after arriving there and decided to stay. She spent the previous night in the wine cellar.

After washing her face in the bathroom and walking into the living room, Mia, Aiden, and Ottilie had already finished breakfast. "Where's Daddy?" Mia mumbled and, in the next moment, spotted Athena. "Mommy! Good morning!"

"Mommy, good morning."

"Good morning, Mrs. Crawford."

The three kids were more well-behaved than the other.

Athena couldn't help but feel content when she saw them.

Mia asked, "Mommy, why are you here, and where's Daddy?"

"Daddy is tired from work and probably still asleep. Today, Mommy will be taking you to school," Athena stroked Mia's head as she answered.

Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced toward the direction of the staircase.

Did Byron have to wait for Athena to satisfy him after making a mistake?

Athena had thought about it last night.

Mia and Ottilie exited the car, holding hands, and headed towards the school.

"You seem to have agreed with Mia," Athena teased, driving toward Aiden's school and continuing the conversation.

Aiden replied calmly, "She said I'm too reclusive and worried I'll get sick."

Athena said, "As she grows up, she comes up with more and more ideas. Don't mind her, Aiden. Remember, do what makes you comfortable."

Aiden gazed out the window, fiddling with the seatbelt strap he had rolled up. "Okay. Did you and Daddy fight?"

Athena was slightly taken aback and didn't hide anything from her child. "Arguments between spouses are normal."

Aiden asked further, "Is it because of Paul?"

Athena fell silent this time.

"It's true, Dad pressured him into going abroad," Aiden muttered, his gaze fixed on the straps he had rolled up. "When we were in Northern Canakey, Paul told me about an upcoming competition. At that time, he had no intention of leaving. It was so sudden. I knew something was wrong."

Athena remained silent, grappling with the complexities of the situation.

In her view, it was a rather despicable act, and Athena couldn't even find a reasonable or decent excuse for Byron's actions.

"Mom, you don't need to think about how to defend him," Aiden said in his usual reserved tone. "It's just despicable, plain and simple. But for Paul, maybe being forced abroad will open up new opportunities." Paul was a skilled chess player.
