Chapter 0087

Being paired for golf meant Alex had to guide Candice, with him wrapping his arms around her from behind.

She felt the warmth of his chest against her back, his heartbeat discernible through their clothes.

When Alex dropped his head, his breath tickled her ear, causing a fluttering sensation.

Stan quipped, observing them, “Mr. Elysian, are you enjoying the embracement? You haven’t swung the club

for quite some time.”

The remark sparked laughter among the onlookers.

Candice tightened her hold on the golf club. She had zero understanding of golf.

Alex adjusted her posture by casually resting her hand on her wrist.

“Why are you nervous?” he asked, his voice steady. “Didn’t I teach you before?”

Her lashes fluttered involuntarily, and her hold on the club stiffened.

Unknown to Alex, his tone mirrored that of their lessons years ago.

Candice’s mind was in turmoil. She gripped the club tighter and swung, sending the ball flying.

Alex, observing silently from behind, slightly raised his eyebrows.

Candice took a step back and avoided Alex’s embrace, feigning calmness. “That’s my shot.”

Alex remained silent, his face giving nothing away.

Sieg, however, whistled. “Lex, it looks like Candice is taking her revenge; you’re going to streak.”

Only then did Candice realize her shot had not reached the golf hole.

Alex came back. His demeanor was composed, as though Sieg’s comment had not reached his ears.

Candice finally realized she had failed. She bowed her head and humbly apologized. “Sorry.”

She had forgotten about the wager.

“What’s the point of apologizing at this point? I assumed you did it intentionally,” remarked the same woman who had earlier tried to converse with her.

She edged closer to Alex, giving him a suggestive glance, then continued speaking to Candice, “After all, Mr. Elysian does appear to be in great shape.”

Her intention to lean against Alex was clear.

All of the women in the vicinity were perceptive; noting Stan’s behavior toward Alex, they deduced he was an important man.

Candice intercepted the woman before she could get nearer to her bace

The woman followed Candice’s direction and indeed spotted a man watching her.

She seemed reluctant, casting a fleeting look at Alex, then smiling back at the man.

As the next round began, most attendees clustered to observe, leaving Candice and Alex alone.

Candice was unsure what to say to Alex.

He looked up, fixing a neutral gaze on her. After a pause, he sarcastically asked, “You did that deliberately?”

Caught off guard, Candice retorted, “I told you, I’m not skilled at golf.”

“That’s true,” he said, lifting his gaze and looking at her thoughtfully. “It appears that my instruction was in

vain.”

In the first round of the game, Alex and Candice’s team finished last.

Stan, wielding his golf club, casually warned Alex, “It’s a best-of-three, Mr. Elysian. Watch out.”

Candice trailed behind Alex.

In a hushed tone, he asked her when they were close, “Are you eager to have me strip for them?”

Candice averted her eyes, quietly responding, “I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Alex responded with a knowing laugh.

His hand overlaid Candice’s, his thumb applying gentle pressure to hers. This round, she exerted minimal

effort, letting Alex guide the swing.

The game included swift action. Almost ending in a tie, each team had one problematic swing.

Regardless, none of them were worried about the outcome, but they bantered with each other.

Stan then invited everyone for a barbecue.

With Alex attending, Candice had no choice but to join.

The golf course, part of an exclusive club, offered scenic tour cars transporting guests to a barbecue location

next to a lake.

While Sieg and Stan led the way and began drinking, Alex was out of sight.

Candice, disinterested in alcohol, opted for a quieter area.

She had not responded to Hanley’s message.

A call from Dean Schmidt came in right as she pulled out her phone.

Candice picked up the call.

“Ms. Renault, when are you returning to Dorrington City?” Dean Schmidt asked, his voice tense.

“I believe we should have an in-depth discussion of Mr. Sundance’s case. Your grandfather has made several rushed visits to the bank recently. His caregiver overheard that all his bank deposits were transferred.”

Candice’s expression grew grim. She had not yet decided how to break the news about Yvonne’s actions to

her grandfather.

Her chest heaved violently. Suppressing her fury, she briefly conversed with Dean Schmidt before ending the

call.

Gazing at the calendar on her phone, her thoughts were in turmoil.

Losing her appetite, Candice went to Alex and inquired about leaving early.

Although there was a relaxed seating arrangement at the barbecue, Stan and Sieg’s presence energized the

atmosphere.

As she neared, Stan approached Alex with a drink, praising, “Mr. Elysian, you’ve achieved so much at a young age. Let me toast to you!”

But just then, a woman cut in, “Mr. Elysian has matters to attend to tonight. I’ll drink in his stead.”

Candice swiftly took three glasses from the table and filled them. Facing Stan without hesitation, she said, ” Since Mr. Castillo is toasting Mr. Elysian, as his proxy, I shall drink three glasses.”

Stan, initially dissatisfied with the interruption, started to see Candice in a new light.

Candice downed all three glasses quickly, placing them back on the table with a slight flush on her cheeks.

Her alcohol tolerance was low, yet she boldly faced Stan and poured another glass, declaring,

“This one is my toast to Mr. Castillo.”

He acknowledged her gesture but did not accept the drink.

Stan observed Candice curiously, questioning, “You’re Mr. Elysian’s secretary, right? What do you have to do

with me?”

Caught off guard, Candice justified, “Without Mr. Castillo’s invitation, how could I enjoy such a wonderful setting and Mr. Elysian’s company?”

Stan, looking at Alex, complemented, “Your secretary certainly has a way with words.”

Alex remained silent.

After Stan departed, Candice courteously interacted with several other attendees, drinking on Alex’s behalf.

As the event wound down, she became so dizzy that she had to rest on a swing.

The surroundings gradually quieted down.

Candice, struggling to keep her eyes open, noticed everyone had left.

She heard steady footsteps nearing and then halting before her.

A familiar scent of cologne wafted over. Candice looked up at him, feebly trying to reach out but only grasping the edge of his shirt.

She murmured while gazing up at him, “Alex, I’m feeling dizzy.”
