Chapter 91 A Kept Man

Hearing that, Douglas blurted out, "Oh? He's the retired soldier who ran away from his own wedding?" Christopher's expression remained calm after he heard Douglas's words, but he was inwardly displeased. How dare he mock a soldier?

Of course, it was obvious to him that Scarlett had mocked him pretty often.

Frank and Cindy froze awkwardly before turning to glare at Christopher. Now that they had struck a partnership with Centurion Corporation, they were considered successful beings. The mere sight of Christopher pissed them off.

Christopher was poor and lowly. He didn't even graduate from university. Thus, he was no match for Douglas. "Scarlett," Julianna warned.

Scarlett ignored her warning tone and flashed a smile. "Yes, that's him. He ended up a soldier, as he couldn't study well. I did tell you about Julianna's husband, didn't I? He's back home to be a kept man, I suppose," she scorned.

Douglas chuckled out loud before giving Christopher the thumbs up. "Impressive! Not everyone can be a kept man. At least men with their egos intact wouldn't be able to do that. I can't believe a soldier wants to be a kept man. Ha!"

"Of course not. Christopher is amazing! He's undeniably better than you," Erisa retorted. She pouted her lips unhappily after hearing their insults.

"Erisa, stop talking nonsense! Who brought her here?" Scarlett snapped.

She wanted to see Julianna suffer a setback and didn't expect Erisa to chime in at all.

"I brought her here. Is that a problem? I thought your family was supposed to apologize to us tonight. If that isn't the case, we shall leave now!" Julianna was fuming after hearing Scarlett and Douglas insult Christopher. She promptly blew her top after Scarlett lashed out at Erisa.

Right then, Fabian's voice rang out. "Frank, your family is here!"

Fabian and the rest of his family filed into the room. Thus, Julianna couldn't unleash her wrath now. Christopher comforted her softly, "Don't be mad. Let's see what they have in mind so we can figure a countermeasure."

Julianna nodded. She glanced at Christopher, afraid he was nursing a grudge. But to her surprise, Christopher was unfazed.

Even though Douglas came from a better family and had better qualifications than Christopher, Julianna thought he wasn't as great as Christopher, judging from his character. The awkwardness in the air disappeared after Fabian showed up. Frank took one look at Fabio, whose cheeks were still swollen. "Fabio, what happened to your face?"

Fabio nearly burst a vessel in annoyance. Why are you asking the obvious? It was Christopher who beat me up!

However, he kept a lid on his irritation and flashed a smile. "I slipped while walking at night. I'm fine."

Christopher snorted inwardly. However, he didn't say a word.

Everyone took their seats, and the dishes were served shortly after.

Fabian gave Douglas a satisfied look and said, "Doug has studied abroad. His family has a shop at Globetrotter Lake. Jadeborough Globetrotter Lake is an expensive place. I heard that one's profit can reach a couple of million a year there!"

"Yes, that's right. Douglas is capable enough of reserving the first-class private room in Gold River Hotel, a five-star hotel!" Fabio's mother, Henrietta, didn't hold back and lavished praises on Douglas. "Mrs. Murray, you flatter me too much. My dad knows someone who works at the hotel, that's all," Douglas responded humbly.

Despite his humble words, he bore a snobbish expression.

Not many people could boast that they knew someone who worked at Gold River Hotel.

After a pause, she asked, "Frank, where does your son-in-law work now?"

“Mom, stop asking the obvious. Christopher has just retired from the military. He didn't even graduate from university, so no company will hire him. I guess he's working as a security guard somewhere. By the way, Douglas, do you know any large conglomerates that are hiring security guards? That might suit Christopher more. He'll definitely earn more than what he's earning now."
