Chapter 53 The Mysterious Person

"That's not something our family should be doing ourselves. The way things stand, Cordrington Corporation is on a knife edge. If Centurion Corporation discovers we took action against that piece of trash from the Murray family, things will be a mess," Harold mused calmly.

"Wait a minute, Dad. Are we going to let this matter slide just like that?" Jared asked, unwilling to give up just yet.

"Let it slide? How could I possibly let it slide after he embarrassed our family? Besides, don't we still have our two dogs, Fabian and Fabio? They must be beside themselves with rage, too. We'll let them take care of it," Harold answered in an icy tone.

Catching on to his father's meaning instantly, Jared nodded emphatically and said, "Okay. I'll see to it at once."

Harold let out a long sigh again as he massaged his temples. He was feeling exasperated too. What was supposed to be a double victory had ended in the stock prices plummeting, and he could foresee it would only continue to fall tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Jared took only a little over ten minutes before he was at the Murray residence courtyard.

As soon as Fabian spotted Jared, the former immediately became emotional and ushered the latter to the seat of honor in the living room. Then, the other junior family members got sent home while he and Fabio stayed with their guest.

Jared slammed his hand down on the table, his rage bubbling within him all of a sudden. "Whenever I think about that good-for-nothing, Christopher Yaeger, I just get so angry."

"Mr. Cordrington, didn't your father say we haven't lost yet? We still have a chance, so you can't be discouraged!" Fabian said.

"He's right, Mr. Cordrington," Fabio added reassuringly.

It went without saying that the father and son duo were also feeling displeased, especially Fabian. It doesn't matter whether it's Frank or that useless Christopher. I've always been at their beck and call. And now, one after another, they've both crossed the line.

Murmuring an acknowledgment, Jared replied in a low voice, "I need to lie low for some time. You're also aware of the matter regarding Daniel Davis. I'm afraid they'll trace it back to me. Besides, Cordrington Corporation has to keep a low profile as well."

"I'm aware of that, but what should we do?" Fabian asked softly.

"It's not a good idea for me to get involved now. However, it's different for you. That loser, Christopher, is acting so arrogantly. Get someone to teach him a lesson. As long as you successfully obtain that piece of land, you can expect to receive a handsome reward," Jared said frostily.

"Don't worry, Mr. Cordrington. We'll figure out a way to get it," Fabian responded with a smile.

After chatting with the two men for a while, Jared left the Murray residence in a hurry. Fabio clenched his jaw tightly at once and said, "Dad, I'll get someone to teach him a lesson later and force him to hand over the land deed."

There was a cold glint in Fabian's eyes as he replied in a low voice, "It goes without saying that we must teach him a lesson. However, we can't turn into the Cordingtons' lackeys. If we can obtain the land in Dragon Valley, we'll have leverage for negotiation."

"I understand, Dad." Fabio also knew how much that plot of land was worth. Nonetheless, he would feel a faint ache in his heart every time he recalled how he had given the land to Christopher. I gifted that valuable land to him with my own hands!

"Also, how's the investigation I asked you to do earlier on the person who gifted the painting? Is there any news?" Fabian enquired.

"Not yet," Fabio answered, sounding helpless.

Panicking, the older man growled, "What's going on? Are you telling me there's not a single clue?"

"If it were anyone else, it'd be much easier to investigate. But this is the chairman of Hubbard Group we're talking about. Hubbard Group is too powerful," Fabio answered, looking miserable.

Sighing as well, Fabian said, "I know the investigation won't be easy. However, you have to remember that someone who can influence Dennis must be exceptionally capable. When the time comes, we won't even have to bother about Centurion Corporation, let alone the Cordringtons."

Fabio gritted his teeth and uttered loudly, "That's right. Uncle Frank and his family think they'll fly high after garnering Centurion Corporation's favor. Just wait. Once we locate the mysterious person who gifted the painting, I'll make Christopher fall to his knees and beg me. Anyone who dares to strike me is just looking for trouble!"

Meanwhile, Christopher, the person who gifted the painting to the Murrays, was shopping for ingredients at the farmers' market. Fabio would probably never guess that the person he was searching high and low for was Christopher!

While he was on his way back after getting the ingredients, his phone rang, and one glance at the number told him that the call was from Diane. Hence, he answered it without a second thought and heard Diane's respectful tone on the other end of the line. "Mr. Yaeger, was the matter today handled to your satisfaction?"
