Back when Victoria was younger, she was a well–renowned chef, and she had trained Laura as her help. But after Victoria retired, she made her meals herself, returning to the old way of life

It was long after Victoria’s retirement that Amelia and William got married. Back then, the duo depended heavily on takeouts and junk food to Victoria’s distaste

So, Victoria had sent Laura, her help to the young couple’s villa, mainly to help with cooking. Laura however had a side job to report the situation of the couple’s marriage to Victoria.

Victoria knew William would be especially pissed if he knew she had used Laura to keep an eye on them, but it was just her way of caring. She knew William and how he related to Amelia.

“Alright, William. You can get back to work. Amelia is back to keep me company.” Victoria said after a few minutes of Amelia’s arrival.

This had William speechless. Victoria had a way of making it look and seem like Amelia was her daughter and he was the man who had gotten married to her daughter. Victoria’s son–in–law.

“I do not understand. Am I your child or is she?” He asked dramatically, with his hands on his waist.

“Well, you can’t blame me. You’re not the best when it comes to taking care of others. I’ll die of boredom if I keep you here. So now, shoo.” Victoria shrugged nonchalantly.

I’ll

go since you want me to.” William faked being hurt. “I’ll come see you tonight, Mom. Take care of yourself, please

William then stood and turned to face Amelia. “Can I talk to you, please?” He asked, and Amelia only gaped at him. She couldn’t remember William ever talking to her in such a call voice

Without saying a word, she followed William outside the room. At first, William didn’t say anything. He was thinking of how best it would be to apologize. He wanted it to sound natural as much as it

could.

“I had no idea you were at the registry earlier.” William began.

“Yeah. I was, but apparently, someone came late and tried to blame me as the cause. However, you do not need to worry. We would go through the process later. I learned the officials there are efficient and there wouldn’t be any reason for delays since we are on the same page.

Now, he had ruined it. In the last few days since Amelia first mentioned divorce, he had come to learn things about her, and now, he knew she was pissed. Maybe he truly went far this time. But he wouldn’t give up yet

Why are you in such a hurry? My mom is sick, and I’m not in the mood. We can discuss it another day.

Then he glanced at her, running a hand through his hair. I’m sorry for earlier.”

“I

Ever since Amelia had brought up the topic of divorce, he had been irritable every time he heard those words and couldn’t pinpoint why. That morning, he had not gone to the registry as they originally

planned. Instead, he had sent his assistant to check if Amelia was there

2/3

Surprisingly, Amelia and William’s assistant had missed each other narrowly. The assistant arrived only when Amelia had left, and there were no traces.

The assistant waited for a long time before reporting to William that Amelia was not there at the registry. It made William especially happy.

Perhaps she did not want a divorce

“I don’t think you’re one to talk about me being in a hurry. You should check yourself more. I didn’t go around locking lips with another man, instead you did that with a woman. You’re the one triggering this, and I’m just trying to make it easier for you.”

Amelia intentionally didn’t give a reply to William’s apology. She heard him right, but it was weird. He never apologized.

William was surprised to hear Amelia say this. Had she seen him with Chloe that day? He didn’t want to dwell on it, but it was possible. They had been taken to the same hospital.

It was all a misunderstanding. That day, he didn’t kiss Chloe, he had only pecked her on the cheek. But he could understand why Amelia would think that way. It was his fault. He had shown another woman who wasn’t his wife more affection than he had ever shown his wife. Not to talk of the woman being no one but his ex–girlfriend, and the angle at which the picture was taken too.

‘Is she jealous?‘ William thought to himself. It seemed likely otherwise, why would she be concerned about him and another woman? If it turned out that it concerned her, it meant he still had a shot. He had a chance to make everything right.

“We’ll talk about this later.” William offered her a smile and left.

Amelia was confused. How could he smile after what she had just said? William was confusing her. She could only hope it all ended soon. Her mental health was at risk.

After trying to calm herself a bit, Amelia turned back and returned to the hospital room. Upon entering, she saw Victoria touching up her makeup.

“Mom, why are you putting on makeup? You’re supposed to focus on getting better.”

“Dear, a woman should never give up on herself at any time, and that’s my attitude toward life. I think you should understand. I enjoy life more than anything else, and I wouldn’t let how my body feels decide when I get to live life to the fullest.”

As she spoke, she continued applying makeup, putting on different sorts of rogues. Immediately after she finished her touch–up, a nurse entered the room.

“Mrs. Victoria, I’m here for the administration of your medication.”

“You don’t have to do that. I feel much better already. Can you help me take out the IV cannula?”

Victoria was pretending to be sick, and she knew Amelia would be pissed if she found out.

“Is that a good idea, Mom? You need to stay in the hospital for further observation today, or your condition could get worse. Left to me, I’ll want you to stay.”

With a glance at Victoria’s face, Amelia knew she wasn’t willing to stay. She hoped Victoria wouldn’t be stubborn with situations that concerned her health, but there was nothing she could do.

Perhaps, if only William was here, he’d know how to convince her.

“Amelia dear, I was only pretending. There’s nothing wrong with me, and the doctor is in on this. I got to know about your plans for divorce, so I wanted to keep you here. Can you please just endure a bit more?”

Victoria realized that her actions were interfering with Amelia’s freedom, and if Amelia were to fault her for that, their relationship would be strained. Heck, it could get destroyed altogether

“Then why are you on a drip?” Amelia asked, suspectingly.

“Oh, this? It’s nothing serious. Just for me to get nutrients. She smiled sheepishly.

Amelia did not know whether to laugh or cry but did not have the heart to see Victoria in distress.

“Mom, you scared me. Please don’t do this again in the future. I was practically shaking on my way

here.”

Since Victoria was not sick, Amelia had no problems with her getting discharged. However, Victoria wanted to continue the act, and to make it as real as possible, she needed to remain in the hospital.

For some minutes, the duo sat, each lost in their thoughts and appreciating the silence, but Amelia’s phone ringing spoon disrupted this.

“Wallflower, we need you to dub a movie this afternoon. Do you have time to come over?”

It was Jones from Ray movies. Since Amelia had signed a freelance contract with Ray Movies, she did not have to work on–site regularly, and her work hours were flexible.

“Sure, I’ll come over in the afternoon,” Amelia replied after getting the important details from Jones.
