Chapter 26

“She belongs to me.” She heard a voice say it from behind the angry mob, and it sent chills through her. She knew that voice; it belonged to the Lycan king.

At his words, a fear-filled murmur erupted amongst the mob of Lycans who stood around, sneering at her earlier. The alpha released his grip from around her n*eck, and she coughed as she regained her steady breathing, but he didn’t let go of her n*eck. Her legs almost gave up on her with how weak they suddenly became.

“My king,” the alpha called out and bowed his head in respect, and the angry mob also bowed their heads as well. “We didn’t hear you come.”

He took a step closer, and although the alpha was tall and large, the Lycan king, in his wolf form, stood taller and larger than everyone in the field. “That’s because I didn’t come for you, Alpha Lukas; I came for her.” He told him, and his eyes. moved to Ona, whose head stayed bowed and her eyes blurred.

“But my king, she crossed territories; that’s an offence, and not just that; she hunted and killed many of our wild lives; she deserves to be punished with whatever punishment we see fit. Unless you feel you are above the laws you have set out, you will let us punish her as we see fit, Alpha Lukas argued his case.

He took another step closer to Alpha Lukas, and now he was towering above him. This was an intimidating move, and he seemed to be succeeding. This side of the Lycan king was terrifying. “Hand her over to me. I will not repeat myself.”

He had broken his word about abandoning lawbreakers to fend for themselves if they were to get into trouble. He did this just to come save her. She didn’t even deserve this, but here he was, coming to her rescue,

Alpha Luka*’s jaw clenched, and he growled at the Lycan king in displeasure; nevertheless, he released his grip entirely on her. “If you do not keep the laws you have set, who will?” he demanded.

The Lycan king took hold of Ona’s hand and stepped away from them. “If your were not so blinded by exacting punishment on this Lycan, perhaps you would have noticed that she wasn’t from here. She probably crossed into your territory and did what she did by mistake.”

“If she’s a stranger, then why are you here rescuing her?” a voice demanded from behind.

“Since you want me to say it, I will. She’s the famous healer who has healed your sons and daughters, your fathers and mothers, in the last week. She only came

here to help us overcome this curse, and killing her would doom us all, so if I have to break a thousand and one laws just to save her life, I will.”

“She’s the healer?”

“She doesn’t look like it.”

“Now that I think about it, she has the healer’s scent.”

“Well then, I’m glad the Lycan king stopped us from making such a grave mistake.”

“Still, she should face some sort of punishment!”

“Are you dumb? She is new to the werewolf world.”

“Ignorance is not an excuse.”

Little whispers went on behind her among the mob.

The Lycan king turned to the mob, who had covered him round and about, and asked, “Does anyone want to stop me?”!

He received silence as a response, as no one dared to challenge him, and the mob stepped aside to create enough space for him and Ona to pass through.

As they walked through the woods that led home, they maintained silence, and good thing the

After everything king didn’t try to speak to her. She didn’t know what to say.

After everything that happened, she just wanted to go back to her room and stay there quietly. Maybe even cry.

Ona was already too sad and tired from everything, and she wanted to return to the background, but she knew she couldn’t do that yet.

“How did you get there?” He finally broke the silence as they approached the field of the estate. “Vivian said you had wandered off, and they couldn’t find you.” He said.

Of course, the snake said that. She probably hoped Alpha Lukas would kill her before the Lycan king’s arrival.

She almost died, and for what? Because she was st upid!

Why did she agree to go with Vivian when she knew who the snake was? She had the chance to do better, and she chose foolishly. It was all on her, and she deserved whatever punishment the Lycan king wanted to give her.

She stayed silent, not wanting to speak or say anything.

He noticed her silence but said nothing about it.

They walked out and into the estate’s field, and a few members waited for them, among whom were Vivian, Lady Nina, and Bella. Bella had a woollen cloth waiting for her, as if she already knew how much she wanted to shift back

into her human.

form.

She walked over to her, and Bella helped her wrap it around herself, and she shifted into her human form, not wasting another minute.

Lady Nina helped cover the Lycan king, who had also shifted into his human form, and the entire field was silent as this went on.

“I’m so glad you were safe.” Vivian said, walking towards her and putting up usual deceptive act.

her

Fiona shunned her and walked away from the field, not looking at any of the others present there, not even the Lycan king.

She entered the mansion, made her way into her room, and tucked herself into

her bed.

Bella asked her if she needed anything, and she shook her head. She needed only rest and perhaps sleep.

She stayed in bed, reflecting on every bad decision she made tonight, and she could have avoided the trouble she found herself in. Yes, she was grateful the Lycan king stepped in to save her from the clutches of death, yet she had to think about her sons, who almost lost their mother.

All because of her foolishness.

Sleep came with a heavy heart, but it was needed.

It was a testament that once again; she was alive, and she had escaped the Vivian plot to have her killed.
