We didn’t wake up from the training bell. Training was canceled and we all needed to be at breakfast at 8.00 A.M.

I take my seat on the bench next to Ela, across from Amanda. Igétas has taken his seat on the little stage, but the other seats are empty. I talk with my girls, but I’m not really listening to what they are saying.

My mind travels back to Igétas. Last night was horrible. I woke up more than once, just wanting to walk into his room and cuddle next to him in his warm bed. But I need to be strong. How in the world does he think I won’t be in heat again? He looked so sure, so convincing, but I still can’t believe it.

“Violet?” Amanda asks, placing her hand on top of mine. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I am. I just didn’t sleep much. How do you feel?”

She doesn’t answer, because at that moment some of the warriors and other men come in. They are a small group, sweaty, they seem like they have just finished training. I think the others are on the mission.

Zack and Chris are taking place on either side of me, clearly hoping to score a big meal. I try to breathe through my mouth, Chris’ odor is strong. Why don’t they shower?

“Training was canceled, right?” Ela asks with big eyes scanning the canteen to see if she should have been out there with them.

“Yes,” Zack nods, “being fit isn’t something an Alpha needs to order. If we want to train to become strong, we will.”

Her face changes into a pout and I have trouble not laughing at her expression. She looks so young when she does it. Even with her warrior attitude, she looks her age in moments like this.

Chris takes off his jacket and, in the process, punches my shoulder.

“Auh!” I exclaim, and within two seconds Igétas is standing next to him and is holding him up by his collar.

“You are hurting my mate!” He roars, the sound bouncing through the canteen. Everyone stops talking.

“It-it was an accident.” Chris is trying to bare his neck to Igétas as a sign of respect, but he isn’t having it.

“You hurt her! How dare you!”

Amanda kicks me under the table and when I look at her, she is gesturing to the situation next to me and mouthing: “Do something”.

I sigh and stand, “Igétas, stop this. Let him go, please.” I rest my hand on his hand and he relaxes a little, still he isn’t letting go.

“It wasn’t on purpose. He was just getting his jacket off because he was hot, nothing wrong there. I am a little more sensitive compared to a werewolf, so don’t go all protective on me when things like this happen. If you want me to stay in the pack, you need to understand an accident like this can happen anytime.” By the time my little speech is over he has his hands on mine.

“Are you hurt?” He asks while I roll my eyes.

“No, nothing that won’t heal in a couple of days. Now, go back to your seat. Chris will be more careful, won’t you?” I raise an eyebrow in his direction, and he replies with a mumbled “yes, ma’am,” sitting down a little further away from me this time. He is even placing his jacket between us, as a barrier that shouldn’t be crossed.

Igétas takes his seat again, and everyone goes back to their conversations. I look at the clock, it is almost 8.30 A.M. The Alpha isn’t here to eat, so we can’t start. Where is he?

Amanda mustreally be hungry; she is squirming in her seat. I was about to offer them a trip to a diner for some breakfast when the Alpha comes in, storming the canteen and looking around anxiously.

“What is wrong, brother?” Igétas reads the situation and stands up right away.

“Yolanda isn’t here, she isn’t in our apartment. I can’t mindlink her either.”

Everyone takes in this information. The Luna is missing.

“Contact the warriors on the mission,” Igétas tells him. Alpha growls at his command, but I see his eyes become milky. It was only a second before his eyes return.

“I can’t get in contact with them either.”

It is quiet for a second or two. Then there is a voice from the door leading to the grass court. A voice I’ve never heard before. A voice not belonging to a pack member. A voice laced with threat.

“Don’t worry Alpha, your precious mate is right here!” Yolanda stands in the doorway with a man standing behind her. He has a gun to her head, and she is crying.

“Don’t move or she is dead!”
