Mates Conquer Everything, Right?

“I honestly don’t want to tell you two anything. With the Alpha being suspicious of me and refusing to accept my mating bond with Igétas, it just seems better not to draw any attention to ourselves.”

Dr. Brown chuckles, and I stare at him with contempt. Who is he to laugh at our misery?

“Violet, you went into heat for days. The whole pack was busy saving your life. The ones who weren’t helping you with your heat were in the prison cells guarding Igétas. You two have been and still are the center of attention.”

Right, life rolled by while I was suffering in pain.

“We are bound by professional confidentiality. Whatever you tell us, we won’t tell a soul.” Maya adds.

I think about it for a second, not wanting to make a rushed decision. My mind is still scrambled from everything that happened.

“Okay,” I sigh, “maybe it isn’t a bad idea to let you know what we think. It might be good to have someone in our corner.”

“I am always on your side,” Maya slips her hand in mine, giving me the strength to tell them our theory.

“I don’t have werewolf blood running in my veins. Let’s start with that. I even asked my mom if I was adopted or if my dad is really my dad.” I sigh, thinking back to that conversation. She was so upset when I asked.

“That seems right, no one has been able to smell wolf in you.” Maya interjects.

“But my mother had a problem becoming pregnant. She told me that she prayed to every god and goddess to bless her with a child.” I look at the two doctors. I can tell they are not making the connection.

“My mom prayed to goddesses,” I gesture with my hands in circles. Still no response. “She prayed to every goddess,” I wait, but still nothing. “We believe Selene was the goddess who answered my mother’s call and bless her with me.” I point at myself to make it more clear.

Finally Maya’s brows shoot up and Brown stammers that can’t be true.

“She was the one who gave me life. And it turns out she also gave me a mate to love me and for me to love.”

“That can’t be.” Dr. Brown tells me again. I’m regretting telling them.

“Think about it. Mates are created by Selene. I am a mate. A human mate without any wolf-blood-line thingy. If one of you has a better idea on how this can be possible, then by all means let me know.”

I lean back in my bed.

Wow, you’re a blessing from the Goddess.” Maya stares at me in disbelief.

“Yes, maybe it is true and Selene made me happen, which would explain why I am mated to Igétas, how I can have heat cycles and where my Luna-courage is coming from.”

“Let’s say you are right,” Brown starts, “Then how do you explain your heat being more intense than the ones wolves experience.”

“I am not a doctor, I am not sure. But could it be that a human body isn’t built for heat cycles? It might also have something to do with the mating tier Igétas and I are on.”

“Wait,” Maya interjects, “did you do the tests?”

“No, Igétas explained a little about the tiers. He believes the connection we have fits with the description of matings on a high tier. So, maybe the heat it’s related with the tiers?”

I look at Maya. I can tell she’s considering it. “Yes, I did read something about that, but it has never been tested.” She chuckles, “There were never enough couples who could wait with the mating process to find out.”

“I think Igétas is right.” Brown speaks. “You knew when Igétas was near when you had your first session with me. Without a mark, that is unheard of. You two must be very high on the mating tier to have that connection.”

“Well, that was the other mystery.” I sigh, getting tired again.

“So, what happens now?” I look at the doctors. Maya takes charge.

“You need to recover, take your time to find your strength again. Eat, sleep and…”

Her stare darts around the room before she meets my eyes. “You need Igétas to complete the mating bond. I don’t know if I can save you if this happens again. I have no idea when the next heat will come. It can be a couple of days, it can be weeks. My advice is to just do it quickly.” She tells me sternly and I nod.

I don’t want to be in pain like that again. Hell, I don’t want to die before I even get to live my life with Igétas. The only problem in our way is the Alpha forbidding it to happen. He almost killed me with his stupid rules.

“Mating, but the Alpha…” I start and Maya shushes me.

“I know what he thinks and it is not ideal to go against his command, but your life is in danger if you don’t. And if your life is in danger…” I complete the sentence. “Then Igétas’ life is also over.”

She nods and I understand. We need to get the Alpha to accept our mating and accept me in his pack as a member. He needs to be a brother to his Beta instead of an Alpha.

“Just know that we are still under attack and rogues are still being seen by the border.” Brown tells me, but I don’t understand what that has to do with my mating. I am just too tired to care.

“I am feeling tired again, can we unleash my mate so I can sleep in his arms?” I ask them and they nod.

“I’ll get you a wheelchair.” Maya is already up and Brown is saying goodbye.

Maya helps me get dressed and takes me outside. I feel the wind through my hair. I breathe in the fresh air and love it when I leave the hospital.

The only thing missing is my handsome mate. I miss him so much.

Let’s unleash the beast, my beast. My mate, my wolf.
