Chapter 367 Her Deliberate Probe

Chapter 367 Her Deliberate Probe

Cecelia shook her arm to get rid of the water and glanced down at her wet clothes, quickly unbuttoning her collar to cool her skin.

The tea was hot, and she felt much pain even though she had been scalded through the clothes.

Her skin was fair, and her arms quickly turned red because of the burn.

"I'm fine, but Mariah, I really don't understand why you would do this?" Cecelia looked up at the woman in front of her with cold eyes.

She had seen through Mariah's trick, and she wanted to question Mariah why Mariah was targeting her.

"Is Mariah helping Mizey deal with me?" Cecelia wondered

Warda realized the trouble caused by his wife and looked at Cecelia's scalded arm. With blame in his eyes, he scolded, "Mariah, how could you be so careless? Look! You scalded Cecelia."

"I'm really sorry. I just wanted to get a new cup of tea. I didn't notice Cecelia when she happened to come in. Oh no, Cecelia! Your clothes are wet, and your skin is red. It's all my fault. Shall I take you to get changed and apply some ointment on you?"

"No, thanks!" Cecelia rejected it.

Through this incident, she realized that Mariah was a real angelic bitch.

Since she dared to mess with Cecelia, Cecelia would get back at her sooner or later.

When Alfred heard the news of Cecelia's return, he ordered, "Cecelia is back. Get ready to serve dinner!"

"Yes!"

A sumptuous dinner was served, and everyone took their seats and began eating.

Cecelia didn't see Mizey. Probably, Mizey didn't come because of her wounds.

The crowd chatted during the meal, and Alfred no longer berated them due to Cecelia's previous rule-breaking.

Mariah succeeded in her conspiracy and was in a good mood. During the meal, she smugly raised her eyebrows.

She only slightly restrained herself when she met Cecelia's eyes. Then she pretended to be nice and served Cecelia some food.

"Cecelia, have a taste of this! It's an authentic local dish from Porema. You can't have it anywhere else."

Cecelia took a bite. "Yeah, it tastes good. Thank you, Mariah! It's so nice of you. Courtesy demands reciprocity. Please have a taste, too!"

Cecelia also stood up and served some dishes to Mariah.

"Thank you, Cecelia. It's really nice of you," Mariah praised, happily eating the food that Cecelia had given her.

When Cecelia served Mariah food back, Mariah just believed it to be a sign of fear, awe, and flattery from Cecelia. But in fact, Cecelia had discreetly drugged the food.

After dinner, the crowd left one by one. Cecelia offered her arms to Alfred and walked him to the door.

"You don't have to walk me back to the room, Cecelia. Just go back and have a rest," whispered Alfred.

"It's okay, Granduncle! I'll accompany you to your residence. There's something I want to talk to you about." Cecelia insisted.

Alfred no longer refused and went back to his room with her. Once there, he asked, "What would you like to talk with me about?"

"I want to ask you about my mother." Cecelia sat down in a chair next to Alfred.

Alfred looked at her and calmly said, "Yeah, you never mentioned your mother before. How is she doing?"

Cecelia sneered. "Granduncle, are you seriously unaware of what happened to my mother?"

"I truly have no idea," whispered Alfred.

"My mother seemed to pass away four years ago, but she didn't actually die. She was abducted by someone named Black Hawk. Granduncle, you're familiar with Black Hawk, right?" Facing Cecelia's question, Alfred frowned, showing a hint of surprise on his face.

Before Alfred could refute it, Cecelia took out a photo. "This is Black Hawk. He wanted to attack me, but I captured him. He told me that he worked for the Songo family. Granduncle, he's one of your subordinates, right?"

In reality, Black Hawk hadn't said anything. Cecelia was just probing Alfred to see if he would spill the beans.

Alfred carefully stared at the photo for a moment and nodded. "I do know, Black Hawk. He indeed used to work for the Songo family. However, once the job was done, I never had any contact with him again. Are you suspecting that I have something to do with your mother's disappearance?"

"Don't you?" Cecelia asked.

Alfred sighed heavily and swore, "Cecelia, I swear on my life that I have nothing to do with your mother's disappearance."

"In that case, then tell me, what exactly did you ask Black Hawk to do?" Cecelia questioned.

"As you know, the Songo family is involved in various businesses. Honestly, sometimes, we come across situations that require confidential handling, and we have to hire individuals privately for that. Black Hawk was hired specifically for that purpose, but he only carried about tasks within Porema. If you don't believe me, I can show you our previous receipts."

Alfred turned and went into his room. After a short while, he came out with a wooden box, from which he took out a stack of receipts.

"Please have a look! These are the receipts Black Hawk gave us when he completed the tasks and got paid. There are his signatures."

Cecelia skeptically picked up the receipts and found that they were mission receipts from Black Hawk when he was still a killer of the Moro Organization several years ago.

These missions were all about handling disputes between the Songo family and certain people in Porema, and indeed, they didn't involve any other countries or tasks.

Cecelia's younger brother, Adam, had mentioned that he had fought against Black Hawk, and that happened in Bemanko.

Cecelia wondered, "Could it be that someone else hired Black Hawk after Black Hawk left the Moro Organization?"

But just these few receipts weren't enough to prove that. Perhaps Alfred was hiding something else?

Nevertheless, what Alfred said seemed reasonable and watertight.

Cecelia still needed to confirm whether Alfred truly had no idea or was telling a lie.

"Alright. Let's not discuss Black Hawk. Granduncle, do you have the Songo family's secret manual, The Collection of Fragrant Clothes, pray tell?"

Cecelia directly asked about the secret book, and Alfred frankly answered, "Yes, I do have the second half of The Collection of Fragrant Clothes. I've been wanting to find the first half to revitalize the Songo family's Fragrant Clothes, but so far, we haven't found its whereabouts. Cecelia, did your grandmother or mother give you the first half?"

Since Alfred had told the truth, Cecelia answered honestly, "Yes, they gave it to me."

Alfred's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Really? Cecelia, can you give the first half to me? Studying the Fragrant Clothes and reviving the Songo Group is my lifelong dream. Our Songo Dyehouse has been waiting for this day."

"Unfortunately, I can't give it to you," Cecelia sighed.

"Why?"

"I've already burned the first half," answered Cecelia.

"What? Did you burn it? Why? Do you know...?" Alfred stood up from his armchair with a pained and disappointed expression as if he had suffered from a significant blow.

"It was just an old worn-out book. Anyway, I've kept the names of the spices and dyeing methods on it in my mind," Cecelia casually remarked.

But Alfred was pissed off. "Oh no! How could you burn the secret book? You know what? It has...."
