The next day, when Maisie arrived at the publishing company and handed over the revised manuscript to Camila, she felt a bit uneasy.

Camila glanced at it and praised her. "Much better than last time. Keep it up!"

"Really?" Maisie widened her eyes in disbelief.

Lately, the constant revisions had left her mentally exhausted, and the repeated rejections had significantly undermined her confidence. Camila saying it was better this time was almost unbelievable. "R-Really?" She was still skeptical. "You think it's fine?"

"There are still some minor details to polish." Camila smiled and showed her a few books on the computer, all of them regulars on the bestseller lists.

"These are authors I helped promote when I was an editor," Camila explained, looking at her. "They were once unknown but later became very successful, so you need to trust my judgment. I can sense marke trends, heh. Follow my revision suggestions and it'll be fine!"

"Okay."

"But..." Camila furrowed her brows with a wry smile. "I've never had an author like you before, one going through so many revisions."

Maisie's expression changed slightly.

They were in the office, and other colleagues were around, so Camila's words were exceptionally clear. Maisie felt like everyone's gaze was stabbing her. Feeling a bit awkward, she nervously tugged at the hem of her clothes.

"It's okay, it's okay!" Camila quickly reassured her. "Maybe good things come to those who wait. After all, your book has been polished for so long that it will definitely turn out good!"

Maisie forced a smile. Saying she wanted to catch up on some sleep, she turned and left the office.

Instead of going home, she went to the coffee shop downstairs and ordered an iced Americano. The bitter taste that greeted her tongue made her mood even worse.

Maisie was about to ask the waiter for some sugar when she overheard familiar voices coming from the adjacent table. She recognized the literary agents of several other authors of the company, who were casually discussing something.

"Has anything big happened in our company recently?"

"It seems not... My big shot is preparing for a new book. How about you?"

"Mine needs a break for a while to get inspired, so I'm quite free these days."

"Camila is not free, though. She's busy from morning till night."

"Yeah! She has to deal with that author. Heard she was shoved onto her by Ms. Reyes?"

Maisie's heart lurched, and she held her breath, listening carefully.

"Not exactly... The big financial supporter behind Maisie is Daniel. Daniel is Camila's cousin. If she doesn't edit for Maisie, who else will?"

"It's nice to have a financial supporter!" someone said with a laugh. "Heard that Camila has worked for other publishing companies before and created several top-tier authors. All of them have written bestsellers! But since she came here, dealing with Maisie alone has been enough for her. Despite so many revisions, the manuscript still hasn't passed!"

"Let's not say that." Another person lowered their voice. "After all, they're family. In the end, Camila will have to call Maisie her cousin-in-law!"

The group chuckled, but Maisie's heart felt battered and pockmarked with uncertainty.
