Chapter 129

Severin could only frown when he knew what Felicia and William were thinking. In truth, he could never spend all the money he had even if he never went to work again for the rest of his life. He did not want Diane to work again because she had suffered so much for him in the past years.

Had he not been afraid of scaring Diane with the knowledge of how much money he owned, he would not have shown her just thirty million to prove to her that he had the money. He only showed her that amount to reassure her of his ability.

He remained silent for a few seconds and then asked William, "Were you hoping that Diane would go back to work?"

Upon hearing this, Megan, who had been stifling her anger in her heart, said directly, "Duh! Can you afford to take care of my sister if she doesn't go to work? We want to live a high-class life, not an ordinary life! And on that note, having too much money isn't a problem, right?"

Severin glanced at Megan and could not be bothered to entertain her stubbornness. Instead, he looked at Diane and said, "Do you want to get on the old lady's good side so you can go back to work?" Diane pondered over his question. "Getting on the old lady's good side is something I've never considered. The wound from my past is still fresh. But regarding work...I actually do want to go back to work, if only to get back at Stanley!"

"Right!" Megan immediately said. "The company has been mismanaged after Stanley became the general manager. He replaced some of the lower-level people with his guys, who are mostly all bootlickers who know how to brag but can't do a good job at work!"

Felicia was angry too when Stanley's name was mentioned. "He's always been eyeing snatch Diane's position, and he's worried that Diane would inherit the Shanahans' property. To make matters worse, he used to rub salt in the wound when Diane was chased out of the family and often cooks up some random excuses to deduct the monthly allowance given to us by the Shanahans. Diane's father was even transferred to the warehouse, and his salary has been

reduced a lot too!"

After William heard that, he smiled wryly and said, "That's not the end of it. We can turn a blind eye to all his snide remarks to us, but the worse thing he did was privately tell some of his friends from the same industry to avoid employing Diane after she was kicked out of the family. That was why she could not find a decent job and had to resort to delivering food! Surely, you can see how despicable he is!" When Severin heard that, he finally understood why Diane wanted to go back to work.

First of all, she was still undoubtedly part of the Shanahan family. Although the old lady was very angry some years ago and kicked her out as a result, Diane might no longer be that angry at her anymore if too many years have passed.

Second, if Diane chose to go back, her main reason was to target Stanley, her cousin. He had used all sorts of dirty tricks to give Diane's family, and Diane especially, a bad life. It was therefore natural that Diane would hope to go back and vent her anger

int Stanley and take revenge on

him for what he did.

Diane said insipidly, "I don't hate Grandma all that much, to be honest. While she was ruthless back in the day, I admit that I disgraced the Shanahans when I became pregnant out of wedlock. Our company is going downhill, and it will meet its demise sooner or later if Stanley is allowed to continue. I don't want to see our company ruined like this. It was born from Grandpa's blood, sweat, and tears!" "Yeah. Your grandfather adored you most, but, unfortunately, he passed away due to sickness. It'd be great if he was still alive!" William lamented. "The old lady tends to favor boys a bit more. As soon as you were kicked out of the Shanahans, she immediately made Stanley the general manager."

"I get it now!" Severin nodded. "If you want to go back and work at the company, then you'll just need to find a way back in. But I'm guessing that the old lady still wouldn't put you in the general manager position even if I can help the Shanahans secure a quota in the Liberty City project."

"Being a normal manager is fine too. It's better than the current situation, at least. As long as Diane has a say in the Shanahans, Stanley would never dare to push us around like this!" Felicia said directly.
