Chapter 6: Selina Taken

The next morning in the Harem, Jennifer suddenly awoke out of a sound sleep. She looked around the dimly lit Harem with the light just bright enough to see. Everyone lay asleep as she looked around. Almost immediately, she noticed that Selina was missing. Her heart sank in her chest as she went and woke Myra. “Myra! Myra! Wake up. They’ve taken her. Selina’s gone!” she exclaimed softly with much concern in her voice.

Myra slowly woke. When she was awake enough to understand what Jennifer was telling her, she rushed to the spot where Selina had been chained.

The commotion woke Tasha and Sakura. Tasha sat up and yawned, asking, “What’s going on?”

Myra searched frantically for any clues of Selina’s whereabouts as Sakura instantly assisted in the search. “Bastards!” Sakura cursed. “They grabbed her again.” Moments later, Hitomi and Jasmine joined in, finding no clues as to Selina’s whereabouts.

Tasha rubbed her eyes as Jennifer said, “They’ve taken her again.”

“What?” Tasha replied.

Jennifer sat next to her on the verge of tears, repeating herself saying, “They’ve taken her, Tasha. Selina’s gone in the night. I woke up and saw that she was gone.”

Tasha rushed forward and met Myra who had given up the search while Sakura, Jasmine, and Hitomi continued to examine Selina’s bed. Myra plopped down on Selina’s pillow and put her hands on her head as she looked down in a defeated manner. “Where is she, Myra?” Tasha asked.

Myra looked up and said, “They took her and left no clues. They took her, Tasha.”

Tasha dropped down to her knees beside Myra with a look of utter desolation on her face. “We failed her. We failed Hanna. We’ve failed both of them,” Myra said softly as her voice began to choke.

Tasha looked down as grief, anger, and hatred of the Emperor began to boil up in her mind and heart. Suddenly, it boiled over. Tasha looked up at the ceiling and screamed so loud that it woke everyone. She wailed and screamed, and then broke into sobs. Myra tried to comfort her but Tasha refused it as the rest of the women gathered around. Lola and Trinity stood to the front and Trinity asked, “What’s wrong?”

“The pricks took her just like before,” Sakura growled. “But this time, they were able to do it so well we didn’t even notice…the fucks! I’m going to get them for this! Selina is my friend.”

“Sakura is right; they took her in the night,” Myra said with grief heavy on her voice. “They spirited her away without us ever knowing.”

Lola knelt beside Myra and put an arm around her. “What do we do?” she asked Myra, who grasped Lola’s hand as it sat on her shoulder.

“I don’t know. I feel responsible for her,” Myra said sorrowfully. Her face suddenly steeled and she said, “Someone will pay dearly for this. I promise you. I will find out what happened to our feline sister.”

“You’re not responsible for her,” Izanami called out as she approached, “...just as you’re not responsible for anybody except yourself, Myra. Don’t let this cloud your judgment. We could no more stop her abduction than we could stop anyone else from being taken.”

“But Selina is special,” Myra countered, “We promised to watch out for her and we failed.”

“No, we didn’t,” Izanami rebutted, “As long as she was with us, we could watch out for her. You know damn well that we could not have stopped this. It was only a matter of time before it happened.”

“Are you suggesting we give up on our feline sister,” Sakura demanded, “...after everything she did for us, sister Izanami? That’s cold by any standard!”

“No, I’m not,” Izanami replied soberly, “But we must remember where we are, sisters. We are the Emperor’s playthings and each of us is subject to his rule anytime he wishes. It’s how things are in this place. What I’m saying is that instead of blaming ourselves for not being able to keep Selina from the Emperor’s dirty mitts, that we keep her in our minds and hearts wherever she may be and ask whatever deities you believe in to help her and bring her back safely to us. At this point, prayer is our only option. We must pray for her safety and for the return of Hanna. It’s all we have left.”

“I agree,” Trinity said softly, “We all love Selina as if she were our own blood, and Izanami does have a point. We cannot blame ourselves for what the Emperor does to her or us. A prayer is very appropriate at this point. I have always been of the mind that if all of us pray with passion and singleness of purpose, miracles can happen and we can change our fates. Selina’s and Hanna’s presence in this dungeon is proof of that. We must not give up hope.”

Tasha continued to sob as if she had lost a sibling. Myra looked at Trinity and Izanami, saying, “You both are right. I let my feelings for Selina get in the way. Prayer is all we have left. Let’s all pray for her safe return to us. You all saw the power our prayers had when the outlander general was in here. So let’s pray that she remains safe from harm.” In seconds, the Harem became a giant prayer closet as the women knelt in a circle and prayed for Selina’s safe return and their ultimate freedom.
