The clock on the wall was showing it was almost eight in the morning. Jaxon still rooted before the glass wall as he listened to Dalton who came shortly after Zia had surrendered herself to the Eastern Alpha. Seth survived his surgery from what Maeve had told everyone. He had been induced into a coma for a few days to allow his body to heal a lot faster. The healing ability in a werewolf was a bit complicated. The doctor often put the patients into a coma because of the severity of their injuries even though they didn’t fall unconscious. This was the only way to ensure that the patient wouldn’t move too much which could affect the healing process. Seth wasn’t a man who liked to stay down for a very long time. He’d move more than he was supposed to.

Dalton stood up and exited the interrogation room. He looked as tired as everyone else here. Interrogating someone could take ages even though they confessed everything. This was to ensure that they confessed on their own terms and not being forced to any sort of obligation. Jaxon didn’t know what he was supposed to be feeling right now. There was no way he’d protect his mate from her crime. Granted, a mate was a priority for every werewolf, but even that priority had its own limit. If she didn’t kill anyone on his pack, maybe she could still be his priority, but Zia had killed someone. She killed his uncle. That wasn’t a light crime that could just forgive and forget. Hanson’s family was suffering from that. His son would never able to feel his father’s love and Lydia would probably never recover from mental instability. Zia didn’t only destroy one person. She destroyed an entire family. This wasn’t just about Hanson’s death alone. This was also about his unborn son and mate.

“The same thing,” Dalton muttered as he massaged his temples.

He had been appointed as the Supreme Commander since the previous one was arrested for numerous charges. Dalton was responsible for many officials in the Council arrested. That was why he had barely left the Council land.

“Alpha, what are you thinking now?” he asked.

Jaxon had been watching every movement Zia was making in the three hours of interrogation. She barely moved and her eye contact remained still into Dalton’s eyes. No emotion was visible on her face either. Maybe she was trained for this. Jaxon knew that hunters would undergo intensive training before they went for a real hunting.

“You tell me, Supreme Commander,” Jaxon sighed.

He didn’t know what he wanted to think. What more would he need to think about his mate? Zia had confessed that she killed Hanson. There was no hint of deception in her eyes. She was speaking of the truth, but Jaxon was still hoping that she was forced to confess. Hope was just a hope nowadays. It’d take a miracle to happen to stop all of these. He could stop all of these. He got the killer. What else he needed?.

“She gave this locker number,” Dalton handed a piece of folded paper with a key. “It’s located in the gym in the town. She said everything you need to press charge against her is in the locker. This is the key to that locker.”

Jaxon took the things from the Supreme Commander and spoke softly to Mario who was standing on his right. The new Gamma nodded a few times before he walked out of the basement with the locker number and key.

“Could you leave us a moment?” The Alpha requested to Dalton who nodded in return.

Jaxon’s hand reached for the doorknob and instantly he was reminded of the times he had been in and out of the interrogation room ever since he took over the Alpha position. He could count that almost every day he’d come down here to interrogate someone. Usually, it’d be rogues who had trespassed his territory. This morning was different. He was about to interrogate a woman who was fated to be his mate.

He pushed the door opened and entered before closed it behind him. Zia looked like she was a bit relieved to see him, but Jaxon wasn’t here to coax her. He was here to find out whatever he wanted to find out.

He sat down on the same chair where Dalton sat earlier.

“Jaxon, I—”

“Alpha Jaxon,” he corrected her quickly.

Her demeanor changed for a moment before she nodded in obedience, “Alpha Jaxon, I’m glad that you finally came in here.”

“Why did you do it?”

Zia had her hands cuffed to the table and she reached for his hand. Jaxon withdrew his hand from her touch as if she’d burn him on the spot. Her hands were the same hands that killed Hanson and also, ruined Jude’s life. He couldn’t crave for his mate’s touch as he knew she had destroyed two men and she was about to destroy the third man—him.

Pain contorted in her face, “I thought that he was a rogue. I didn’t know he was your uncle. I’d swear—”

“Your swear wouldn’t save your life!” Jaxon roared. His chest heaved heavily as he took out a photo from his pocket. “You didn’t kill one person, Zia. Lydia passed away this morning because she couldn’t move forward without her mate. Now, their son is fighting for his life because he was born prematurely. How am I going to answer his questions when he asks for his parents when he’s older?”

Zia sobbed as she shook her head, “You think I’d pull the trigger if I know who he was? I was deceived as much as you were. I didn’t mean this to happen. I’d swear, Jaxon.”

“Damn it, Zia!” he slammed his fists on the metal desk, “Don’t talk about deception when killing is all you do in your life!”

“And you killed people too!” she fired back.

Jaxon growled, “I kill when I have to kill. I kill not for the sport of it. I kill because I need to protect my people.”

“I killed to protect mine as well.”

The Alpha shook his head, “No, you killed to sate the hatred and rage in you. You killed because you think all of the werewolves are the bad guys and your family is the saint ones.”

“You don’t know anything about my family.”

He chuckled, “Really?”

He took another photo from his pocket and let her took a look at it. Her hands trembled as she reached for the photo.

“H-H-How?” Her lips quivered.

“You said you know your family, but I guess, you didn’t know them that much.” Jaxon got up from his chair and headed to the door, “Move her to the dungeon.”

His heart turned as cold as the ice.
