Adele felt dizzy as the pain was so immense she couldn’t breathe properly. Liam held Adele and looked in the direction the spear came from and couldn’t see anyone. He was confused about whether he should take care of Adele or go and look for Chris, who had fallen off the cliff.

“I-I am a-alright. L-look for C-Chris,” Adele stuttered in between her pain. Liam hurried towards the end of the cliff and called for Chris, but there was no response. He fell to the ground as he felt a sense of panic rising within him, thinking the worst. Why did Adele feel the pain in her heart? Was it because of losing her mate? Was Chris dead?

Meanwhile, a thousand things were going on in Adele’s mind too. Within a span of a few hours, she felt like she had lived a lifetime. Just a while back, Liam was on the brink of death, and now Chris. Why was this happening to her? Why was the Moon Goddess so evil to her and her mates? She hadn’t even expressed her love for them yet. Chris and Liam had begged her for forgiveness many times, but she always ignored them.

" It’s my fault,” Alexa said sadly. ” I wanted to wait, thinking I would deal with it after the witch is gone, but I forgot that things don’t always go as we expect them to. Time doesn’t wait for anyone, and we are better off expressing our feelings as soon as possible; otherwise, we will be only left with regret. ”

" But now... C-Chris...?”

" Our mate is not dead, Ad. I would know if he was. The mate bond is not yet broken,” Alexa said confidently. ” And I swear the moment I see him again, I will pour my heart out to him.”

Adele, who no longer felt the pain, suddenly got up and rushed toward Liam and instantly knew what he was thinking. ” Chris’s not dead.”

" Y-You...” Liam said, with tears from his eyes. ” Are you okay now?”

" I am fine now. I don’t feel the pain anymore.”

" Then why did you feel the pain in your heart?”

" Maybe because he was wounded in his heart. Chris is so strong; Do you think he will die of a mere spear wound?” Adele remarked.

" Let’s go then,” Liam said and wiped his tears, feeling a new sense of determination.

" How do we go down?” Adele said and looked around for a way and found a section of a trail for hiking down.” Here!!” She exclaimed and turned to go, but Liam stopped her.

" I-It’s dangerous. How will we go down? We don’t even have a rope with us.”

" We will manage it. We have been trained for this, and I am sure even you are.”

" Ohh O-Okay!! L-Let’s go,” Liam stuttered.

" What’s wrong, Liam?” Adele asked impatiently.

" I-I am not very good with heights.”

" Just a few seconds ago, you looked down without fear,” Adele stated.

" That time, I was only thinking about Chris.”

" See..., that’s the catch. It would be easy if you think you are doing it for Chris.”

“O-Okay.” Liam tried to calm himself and looked below the cliff. He suddenly felt dizzy and backed away in fear. Adele held his arms and said, ” Calm down, Liam. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.”

Liam did as Adele told him in an attempt to calm himself down. He stiffened up when he felt soft lips on his lips. Liam’s heart was beating fast when Adele whispered into his ears, ” I love you, Liam, but our relationship is incomplete without Chris. So let’s go and find him.”

Liam felt a sudden surge of energy sweep through him, building a new sense of confidence. ” I love you too.” Liam held Adele’s hand and turned around.

They reached the edge of the trail at the cliff-top and scrambled down in between the bushes. The rocky surface was sometimes solid and sometimes loose and blocky, but both had managed to go halfway down without any issues.

At one point, the stone on which Adele had balanced her foot dropped off, and she was about to fall, but Liam grabbed her by her waist. He stared at Adele in panic, maintaining his grip on her tightly, but still, she couldn’t hold on and fell down.

" Adele...” Liam screamed at the top of his voice, and he was frozen when he saw her blood-stained lifeless body on the ground. The fear was coming back, but he heard the faint sound of someone calling his name repeatedly. The sound got clearer, and Liam blinked his eyes to see Adele standing in front of him, his hands still around her waist.

" Liam...? Adele asked, looking confused. ” Why did you stop?”

" Y-You are not dead. I saw you falling down.”

" No, I didn’t fall as you caught me just in time,” Adele said proudly.

" B-But I saw... It felt so real.”

" I think you were hallucinating. The witch is at work again,” Adele said with contempt. ” Let’s move ahead.”

After descending for a while, Adele saw a giant human-sized bird fly toward Liam and poke him until he was bleeding everywhere. Adele balanced on a tree branch and went to help Liam fight off the bird, but suddenly everything was back to normal. The bird was gone, and Liam was just below her, removing an obstacle from their way.

Adele blinked a few times to clear her mind and continued her descent when she heard Liam cry out. ” Look there.”

They saw a man lying down in between the trees at the base of the cliff. ” Chris!” Liam exclaimed and moved fast to reach Chris as soon as possible.

Chris was unconscious. Liam shook him and tried to wake him up. He checked Chris’s pulse but couldn’t feel any.

" He’s not breathing,” Liam said, petrified. ” Adele... Chris is not breathing.” Liam was on the verge of tears.

Adele rushed towards him, held Chris’s hand, and suddenly backed away. ” He’s not Chris,” she said, annoyed. ” Get away from him.”

" How do you know?” Liam asked.

" I don’t feel the sparks.”

Liam turned towards the unconscious Chris, who was now gone. ” The f**k is going on here?”

" Bloody b**ch!!” Adele cursed. ” She’s too scared now that her end is near.” Adele pointed at the river before her and screamed, ” We have found the holy river, and your cheap tricks wouldn’t work anymore.”

" Throw away the moonstone in the river and get rid of that witch,” Liam said, frustrated. ” She has done enough damage already, and we still have to look for Chris.”

" It won’t work now,” Adele stated. ” We have to wait until the moon is up. Let’s search for Chris until then. I think he fell into the river.”

" Your mate is dead,” Adele heard the deep irritating voice again. " There’s no point in looking for him.”

" Shut up!!” Adele yelled. ” It’s you who would be dead. Your countdown has begun, and soon you will be going to hell.”

" Not unless I kill you first,” Samara said and gave an evil laugh. The next moment, Adele and Liam were surrounded by the animals who had attacked them at the castle.

" How did they manage to get here without us noticing?” Liam questioned when a wolf approached him.

" Forget about that. First, we need to get rid of these,” Adele said and shifted mid-air to jump on a jaguar.

Adele and Liam continuously fought with the animals transforming from wolf to human and vice versa, but the beasts didn’t seem to stop. If one were down, another would pop up. Both Adele and Liam were exhausted and were even injured in many places.

Adele was then thrown off near the bank of the river and winced when she heard the cracking sound of her hand bone breaking. Liam ran towards her with a concerned look, and Adele said, ” It seems that Samara is luring more animals here. At this rate, we won’t be able to cope up.”

” You are hurt, so you rest here. I will keep them at bay.”

" Even you are injured and bleeding.”

" Don’t worry about me. Until I am here, I won’t let you die.”

" I can’t...” Adele started, but she and Liam were unexpectedly pulled into the river by something.

" What the...” Liam cursed, wiping off the water from his face and getting ready to attack whatever it was. He stopped mid-air when he heard the person say, ” Even I can’t let my two favorite people suffer alone, all bloodied and hurt.”
