Miles long it wends

through neighborhoods

and sends

cars, buses, delivery trucks

on endless cycles

of vehicle brotherhoods

the east end

an international village

of people and cultures

from every walk of the

earth

each community gives

it’s unique flavor

to the cake of the city

the west end

escapes into the hills

alive with the growth

of grain

of meat

of farmer’s hurrying feet

and mountains beckon

with stupendous mirth

Laughing

as I watch

constriction season begins

Once again, the avenue

will trap us in

endless loops of detours

and crawling traffic

Sidewalks torn,

shorn of trees,

devoid of natural

beauty and the gift of

generations of gardeners

dies to the backhoe

and promises to

make life better

Only to become the same as

every other street,

an ode to

a city planner

with no grasp on reality
