Chapter 20: The Picture

'Oh, no. What did I do wrong?' Gabrielle asked herself in silence, watching as Kyle often avoided her gaze as they ate.

Earlier, Kyle was being so comforting, hugging her and caressing her back. Yet, now, he seemed to be giving her the cold shoulders.

Still, despite his sudden change in temperament, he kept reminding her, "Gaby, you need to eat more. Drink a lot of water since you got soaked in the rain."

After gulping down her food, she answered, "I - I wasn't under the rain that long - Achoo!"

Her own words were cut by a loud sneeze, and Gabrielle wound up, excusing herself to get a tissue.

"Well, seems like that isn't so true," Kyle answered with a frown.

After they both finished their meals, Kyle took it upon himself to call the hotel staff and have their plates taken. He let Gabrielle go to her room and take a good night's sleep.

While utterly bothered by how Kyle was acting, Gabrielle tried her best to rest that evening. Just over an hour after their dinner, she dozed off in her room.

At two in the morning.

Gabrielle woke up, hearing the thunder outside her balcony window. She was chilling cold and could sense her body feeling uneasy.

She turned to her bedside table and realized how she had not brought in a pitcher of water.

Rubbing her arms as she got up, Gabrielle sighed, "So cold."

After she turned her air conditioning off, she grabbed a sweater and went out to get some water.

Just as she stepped out of her room, the lights suddenly went out and it resulted in her to scream, "Ahhh!"

Gabrielle leaned against the wall, comforting her chest. "Oh, gosh!"

It did not take long, however, for the hotel's generator to come up, and she soon made her way to the kitchen.

To her surprise, Kyle also came out.

"Everything okay, Gaby? I heard you scream." She turned to find Kyle standing behind her in his usual white shirt and pajamas.

"Um. Yeah," she answered with her stuffy nose. Gabrielle did not realize when it happened, but she woke up, already congested. "I was just... getting a glass of water."

"You don't sound well." Kyle made his way to her and checked her temperature outright. "Jesus, you are having a fever!"

"I am?" Gabrielle frowned and checked herself. "No wonder I felt chills."

"I forgot to set up medicines in your bathroom. You go right ahead to your room and I'll come by with a medicine," Kyle suggested before taking a leave and going to his room. After some time, Kyle knocked on the door of Gabrielle's room. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah," Gabrielle said while lying in her bed. She wrapped a blanket around her, trying to feel warm.

"Here," said Kyle while holding another glass of water and medicine. "Drink this to bring down your fever."

"Do you easily get sick?" Kyle asked, taking a seat on the side of the bed.

Gabrielle nodded and replied, "Sort of. Thanks, Kyle. I'll be fine."

Despite her suggesting that she was good to go, Kyle remained to sit next to her. After a few seconds, he said, "I'll... I'll stay on the sofa for a while. Just to be sure... Are you comfortable with that?" She bit her lip and answered awkwardly, "Umm... I'm fine. Really, Kyle - "

"Just until your temperature goes down," he insisted. "I'll stay on the sofa."

It took her a few seconds to decide, but feeling tired, sleepy, and cold, Gabrielle surrendered and faintly said, "Okay. Tha - thanks, Kyle."

Through the rest of the night, Gabrielle did sense Kyle checking her temperature, but she mostly slept through the sound of the roaring rain.

When she woke up on one side of the bed, her eyes were still heavy, but she noticed how the light had seeped through the window.

Gabrielle got up, clearing her throat.

She did not see Kyle on the sofa and assumed that he left some time at dawn. However, when she turned to the other side of the bed, the man was there, sleeping while propped up with several pillows. He stil even had a thermometer in his hand!

While she felt utterly touched, panic struck her, realizing how her own boss had watched over her, resting on her bed!

'Wait! Wait, Gaby. The guy is just being nice! Calm down!' Gabrielle told herself. She then slowly distanced herself from Kyle before reversing her figure towards him.

Tilting her head, she wondered in silence, 'Should I wake him?'

Realizing the man was probably tired of looking after her, she decided against it and just... observed God's beautiful creation... momentarily.

In just two minutes, Gabrielle shifted from just observing to practically gawking at Kyle.

She just could not help it!

Yesterday, she was more focused on her troubles, but now she was back to noticing his outstanding features once more.

Gabrielle moved closer, getting a better look at his athletic face. Mentally measuring the height of his nose, she whispered, "Nice."

Ogling at the sexiness of his jaws, she bit her lip and quietly mumbled, "God has blessed him."

She gulped as her eyes traveled down to his neck and his obviously well-shaped torso. 'Damn! Everything is just so fine and I just slept next to one! Should I... Take a picture?'

Reaching the bedside table, she grabbed her mobile and took one picture of his handsome face and one picture of them together.

The entire time, she was being cautious, making sure not to wake him.

After getting some precious shots, she immediately went back to beam at him.

Gabrielle did not know for how long she was staring at the man, nor did she realize how she was inching closer to him in each second that passed. The next thing she knew, Kyle's eyes fluttered open, and he said in his bedroom voice, "Are you done? Or do you want me to move to a better pose?"

A sly grin reflected on his face before he added, "Just let me know how I can help?"

With eyes widened, Gabrielle's mouth fell open in horror! Apparently, Kyle was awake the entire time!

As her face turned crimson red, she exclaimed, "Oh, my gawwd!"

She instantly hid beneath her blanket, not minding Kyle. From where she took a cover, she heard him say, "Do you think... it's fair that you have a picture of me... and I don't?"
