Chapter 31 – All Showed Green

[Location: Decontamination Depot t3rm1nu5 – Charlie and Linda’s Quarters]

The room was a mess. The lamp had fallen from the end table, the pictures crashing to the floor. Plates and glasses had launched themselves from the kitchen cabinet and shattered on impact. Linda had never experienced an earthquake, but what she just felt, seemed to be pretty darn close.

She lifted herself to her hands and knees and then rolled onto the couch, wondering if more tremors might be on the way. She used her fingers to wipe the tears from her cheeks and then pushed away the hair that had fallen into her face. The hanging light over the dinner table swung back and forth like a pendulum.

Her eyes darted across the room as she inhaled and exhaled through her open mouth. As the swinging light came to a rest, she noticed something strange. The low rumble of the hydrogen facility she normally heard was gone. She was sitting on her couch in complete silence. The swish of her heart pumping blood through her body was the only sound she heard.

She glanced at the small display on the wall that provided status for the depot’s life support systems. Air, water and electric power all showed green.

She bent over and lifted her handheld from the floor and looked at the screen.

No connection.

She stood from the couch, swallowed hard and huffed.

I gotta find him.
