Chapter 10 Con Artists

The Walker Group’s operations and public relations departments were working tirelessly during the day, desperately reaching out to the media to retract the viral search.

In the CEO’s office, the operations manager nervously explained, “Mr. Walker, it was Ms. Rivera who requested us to release it, and she provided the content. She specifically instructed us not to change a single word, and we assumed it was what you wanted,”

Liam calmly handled the documents; his dark attire giving him a cold and wintry

appearance.

Before the operations manager could finish speaking, Liam forcefully slammed the stack of documents on the side, creating a muffled sound. His voice was deep and low as he asked, “What were you thinking?”

“I…” The operations manager’s forehead was covered in sweat, and his back was drenched. He looked towards the CEO’s assistant, seeking help.

Finn remained composed, keeping his eyes focused and his thoughts collected. He said to the operations manager, “You made a mistake. You can submit your resignation to the HR department now.”

The operations manager felt like a helpless mess, being escorted out by the bodyguards.

Finn stood by and reported to Liam, “Mr. Walker, the viral search has been taken down. The operations department has released an official statement claiming it was the result of a hacker attack. The public relations department has also informed the major media. ‘outlets, hoping to minimize the damage. However, the stocks and funds of the Walker Group have significantly plummeted, especially Walker Group Jewelry. The upcoming ‘One Life, One Heart‘ series has been boycotted by netizens.”

The chain reaction caused by a short post was even faster and more intense than anticipated. Liam’s eyes darkened.

Finn observed Liam’s expression and cautiously said, “Netizens have discovered that you are in your second marriage, and now they are searching for your wife… I mean, Ms. Morgan. They are curious about what kind of girl from the countryside could marry into a wealthy family. At this rate, Ms. Morgan might soon be exposed. I’m afraid her safety will be compromised. What do you think we should do?”

Liam furrowed his brows and said in a deep voice, “Find her as soon as possible.”

“Yes,” Finn replied and continued, “Also, sir, I requested your visit to the family home.”

Liam remained expressionless, stood up, buttoned his suit, and said, “Prepare the car. Let’s go to Walker Group Jewelry first.”

In the car, Finn sat in the back scat, holding a tablet to check the aftermath of the viral search being taken down. Suddenly, he came across a photo that caught his attention–the silhouette of a female CEO. “She looks so fashionable.”

Feeling the boss’s gaze beside him, Finn cleared his throat and was about to swipe away the photo when Liam took the tablet from him. He looked at the figure in the photo and couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity.

But he couldn’t remember where he had seen it before.

Finn felt guilty for slacking off during work, suddenly caught a glimpse of the location under the photo, and quickly made up an excuse for himself: “The photo was sent by an employee of the Smith Group, so it should be of the Smith family’s daughter.”

Liam enlarged the photo and closely examined the figure. His heart inexplicably skipped a beat as he pursed his lips. “Is there a front–facing photo available?”

Finn shook his head, looking troubled. “It’s strange. This young lady from the Smith family has been kept hidden away at home since she was young. It is said that she has never attended school and only has private tutors. There is absolutely no information about her online, not even her name. I tried to search for her photos online but couldn’t find a single one. She is incredibly discreet. So when this photo of her back appeared, I don’t know if it’s genuine or fake.”

As he continued speaking, the photo suddenly vanished from the tablet, displaying a data error. When he clicked to reopen it, the trending article that had been pushed to the top was also deleted. The photo disappeared without a trace.

Finn was shocked, his eyes wide open. “This is… too…” He couldn’t help but find it exaggerated.

He thought that his boss was already discreet enough, but he never expected that there would be a CEO even more low–key than Mr. Walker.

Their way of doing things is somewhat similar to that of their former president’s wife, Nancy Morgan.

“Go and investigate,” Liam ordered calmly.

Finn’s thoughts were drifting, and he didn’t react. “Are you talking about Ms. Morgan or Ms. Smith?”

Liam coldly uttered two words: “Investigate both.”

He didn’t believe that someone could vanish into thin air, nor did he believe that someone could appear out of thin air. What possible connection could there be between two unrelated people?

In the office of the president of the Smith Group, Nancy’s slender fingers swiftly swept across the keyboard, then clicked twice. A handsome face appeared on the screen: Gary.

After removing his tea–colored sunglasses, Gary revealed a pair of watery eyes, resembling a mischievous young boy.

“I was just chatting with a group of netizens online and having a great time when I noticed a photo of you. I was about to take action, but the photo disappeared. Did you do it?”

“Yeah,” Nancy said, taking a sip of water, looking somewhat tired. “If I was relying on you, I would have already been exposed.”

Gary immediately exclaimed, “You heartless little thing! Wasn’t it me who handled your previous information? Otherwise, you would have been exposed countless times by now. Do you think Liam would let you off so easily?”

When it came to Liam, Nancy’s expression darkened. “If you have something to say, say it. If not, please leave gracefully.”

. “Hey, look at how fierce you are… Fine, let’s talk about business.”

Gary said, “I was really annoyed this morning, so I thoroughly exposed your love rival, Layla. I dug up quite a lot of dirt on her. Your ex–husband was quite pitifully deceived; I almost feel sorry for him.”

take He smirked and tapped his fingers on the keyboard twice. “I’ve sent it to you; your time to read it. I’ve been browsing the internet all morning; I’m exhausted. I’ll take a nap

now.”

Stretching lazily, he logged off.

Nancy looked at the information he sent. He was a top–notch hacker, on par with her skills. The information was densely packed, dozens of pages long, documenting Layla’s entire life. Almost her entire being was laid bare before her.

She quickly skimmed through it, her brows furrowing. Not only did it record Layla’s past with Liam, but it also detailed her years abroad, even including her medical records.

She could easily read and understand all of the information. However, a few medical terms caused her eyebrows to furrow in an instant.

Layla was not delicate and innocent; she was a female scammer. Nancy would label Layla

a wench.

Nancy’s face darkened. Just as she was about to go to sleep, Gary suddenly appeared on the screen again. “Have you finished reading? Did it disgust you?”

He clicked his tongue and said, “Just because of this despicable person, Liam wants to divorce you? I told you he must have lost his mind. So, what do you think? Do you want me to expose Layla’s true colors and help you seek revenge?”
