This woman, Elspeth, riding on the favor of the Abernathy’s chairman, was she trying to cause a scandal within the Fairhaven family?

“Edith, is what Elspeth is saying true?”

Edith quickly put on an innocent and harmless expression, her brows furrowed as she defended herself with a coquettish tone, “Mummy, I really didn’t do that! The idea of making fake jewelry to give to Ada to win her over was all Glynnis‘!” 

Seeing Edith distort the truth with her lies, Glynnis was furious, glaring at her and shouting, “Edith, stop lying! It was your idea to help me win over Ada and smear Evadne’s reputation by creating a replica of Alea’s jewelry!”

“Evadne? The Ashbourne’s lady? What does she have to do with this?” Mrs. Jareth asked, her eyes wide with surprise.

Edith was at a loss for words, a bead of sweat trickling down her forehead.

This stupid Glynnis, she had actually dragged Evadne into this. She must be determined to make a clean break with her!

“Elspeth, what do you think this place is? A place for you to yell and scream?”

A chilling voice suddenly echoed, piercing through Glynnis’s chest like a sharp sword!

One could see Jareth’s deep eyes, a smirk playing on his lips as he walked in from the entrance with a swagger.

“It doesn’t matter if you guys don’t care about your image, just don’t tarnish the Fairhaven family’s prestige.”

“Mr. Jareth!” The butler and the servants all greeted him with a bow.

“Jareth!” Edith, seeing her savior, immediately put on a teary–eyed damsel–in–distress act.

Jareth had always despised Glynnis, and had been extremely indulgent towards Edith since they were children. He would definitely side with Edith without knowing the full story!

“Mr. Jareth! You and Thaddeus are like brothers, our Abernathy family and your Fairhaven family also have a connection, how can you be so rude to me, your elder?” Elspeth was fuming.

“My relationship with Thad is between us, what does it have to do with you, Elspeth? You’re not the one who raised Thad.”

“Jareth! Glynnis went too far! She got herself–into trouble and is trying to drag me down with her, slandering me!”

Edith ran into Jareth’s arms, clinging tightly to his waist, “Jareth. I know I was wrong! You told me not to hang out with Glynnis, but I didn’t listen. Now, I’m paying the price for it. I won’t be headstrong anymore, I’ll listen to you!”

“Edith, is what Glynnis said true?”

Jareth’s penetrating gaze fixed on Edith, his voice tense with suppressed emotion, “The person who created the fake jewelry behind the scenes, trying to frame Ms. Evadne, was it you?”

“No! It wasn’t me! It was all Glynnis’s idea!” Edith turned pale, shaking her head hurriedly.

“Stop lying, Edith!” 

Glynnis pointed accusingly at Edith’s feigned innocent face, her eyes reddened with rage, “The man who forged the jewelry is Alea’s apprentice, and he’s from Aetheria! Even if I wanted to get a counterfeit, I could only find someone locally due to the urgency, how could I possibly find someone in Aetheria? You’ve been studying abroad in Aetheria, only you have the connections and the means! If you don’t admit it, I’ll bring that man named Tyler here and confront you face to face!”

“Confront me?” Edith was furious, retorting, “You dare to say this because you’ve already prepared your backup plan, maybe that man has already been bought by you. Bringing him here is just a way to smear me!”

This issue had become a he–said–she–said debate, with both sides heatedly accusing each other.

“Ms. Edith, your scheme of killing two birds with one stone is quite ingenious!”

Elspeth knew arguing was pointless, so she decided to shift the focus onto Evadne, “You used my daughter as a weapon to trip up Evadne, taking advantage of our competition with the K Hotel. If your plan succeeded, it would be to your benefit. If it failed, you could easily pin the blame on Glynnis! However, Ms. Evadne turned out to be Alea herself, otherwise your scheme would have worked!”

Edith’s face turned red with anger, “Elspeth! I respect you as an elder. How can you slander me?” 

“Edith, the person who plotted against Ms. Evadne behind the scenes, was it really you?” Mrs. Jareth was completely taken aback.

Her health had been poor, and the shock caused her to lose her balance briefly, only managing to steady herself by grabbing onto the banister.

“Mom! Jareth! I’ve got no beef with Evadne. Why would I pick a fight with her?” Edith stomped her foot in frustration, throwing a tantrum at Jareth just like she did when she was a child.

Glynnis bluntly exposed Edith’s malicious intentions. “Because you fancy Thad, and you’re jealous that Evadne was his ex–wife! Seeing Thad treating Evadne well and ignoring you, you’ve been scheming to get at her! All to get rid of this thorn in your side!” 

“But Ms. Edith, you forgot one thing.”

Elspeth, laughing in anger, once again stirred the pot. “Evadne is not only important to Thaddeus but also to Mr. Jareth. If I’m not mistaken, Mr. Jareth once pursued Ms. Evadne, didn’t he? Although he didn’t succeed, I believe Mr. Jareth is a man of honor and wouldn’t let someone harm the woman he once cared for.” Edith was shaking with rage, clenching her fists tightly. “Jareth! Don’t listen to their lies! I do like Thad, but they’re divorced now, why would I target Evadne? Do you think I’m bored?”

Jareth took a deep breath, his handsome face as gloomy as the sky before a storm.

Just as the atmosphere was reaching a boiling point, Jareth’s secretary, Lily, rushed in.

“Mr. Jareth, the police are here.”

Saying this, Lily glanced at Glynnis. “They must have gone to the Abernathy family, found out that Miss Glynnis was here, and followed.”

Glynnis‘ legs gave out, she was about to collapse!

Elspeth also turned pale and tightly held her trembling daughter’s arm.

“Miss Glynnis!”

As soon as the words fell, two plainclothes officers stormed into their sight. “We received a tip–off that you’re involved in the K Orld Hotel’s business secrets leakage case. Please come with us to assist in the investigation!“.
