His Dead Mate
Chapter 12: Alone With Him

Kasey

“Oh she looks mad.”

“What do you think happened?”

“Her face is so red right now.”

“Is she okay?”

“I wouldn’t want to be whoever made her this upset.”

Those were some of the conversations that I picked up as I marched through the hall.

Turns out Maximus had to fly back to heaven because one of the other angels got a lead on a demon that showed up. But I didn’t give a shit at the moment. I was on a mission to find Maximus.

I shoved open the door that led to a conference room and it bounced off the wall, making a loud crack sound.

All heads shot up and looked in my directions.

“Kasey wait!” Kenword yelled as he ran after me.

I balled my fists up as I made eye contact with Maximus.

“Kasey dear.” Alvar said softly as she walked up to me. “We need to approach this is a calmly manner.”

“What’s going on?” Maximus asked confused as he walked my way.

“You motherfucker.” I said lowly.

The angels in the room gasped at my behavior, but I didn’t give a shit. I was pissed. And when I’m mad, I’m not a pleasant person to be around. Everyone here should know that by now.

“Excuse me?” He asked as he stood in front of me. “Kasey, what happened?”

I squinted my eyes at him and he just tilted his head.

Is he really playing this game with me right now? This is a serious matter. I have no time for games.

“You.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Me?” Maximus asked. He opened his mouth to say something, but Kenword cut him off.

“Don’t.” Kenword said. “She found out.”

“What?” Maximus asked in a whisper.

“You knew all along that I had a mate.” I stated.

Maximus looked like a fish out of water. I normally would be on the floor laughing by now, but I was too pissed.

I felt my eye twitch. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I-I.” Maximus started off, but then he looked kind of mad. “Werewolves do not belong with angels. And besides, we have a mission to do. Nothing can get in the way of that.”

“I know we have a mission and who said it would get in the way of that?” I screamed at him. “And besides, that isn’t your call!”

“Everyone needs to calm down. Please.” Alvar begged.

“Okay I’ll admit. Not telling you was a bad idea.” Maximus sighed. “But I didn’t want you to know, because I didn’t want anything to distract you from the mission.”

“So that’s why whenever we were by him, you wanted to leave? Because you knew I would start to see the signs. The constantly pull. Me always thinking about him. And when we shook hands, that spark of electricity that I felt?” I yelled. “Why did you keep this from me?”

Maximus looked down ashamed. “I was trying to do the right thing.”

I scoffed and turned around to leave.

“Where are you going?” Kenword asked carefully.

“To go calm down.” I mumbled as I slammed the doors shut behind me.

“Look at me. I’m Maximus.” I mumbled as I kicked a pebble around. “I don’t allow fun. I don’t allow any distractions. Blah blah blah.”

I missed the pebble with my foot. “Dammit!” I groaned and picked up the pebble and threw it.

“Ow!” I heard someone yell.

“Shit!” I gasped as I ran to where the voice was. I hope I didn’t hurt him too bad.

I froze once I saw who it was. Oh crap.

“Where did that come from?” Harvey asked laughing.

“Maybe a squirrel through it at him.” Sterling said as he busted up laughing.

“Yeah yeah. Laugh it up.” Zale mumbled as he rubbed the back of his head.

Uh oh.

I slowly took a step back and turned around.

Crack!

I cringed as I stepped on a twig and broke in half.

The three boys quickly turned around and went on high alert. But relaxed once they saw me.

“Kasey.” Zale smiled, but then got confused. “Kasey?”

“Uh hey boys.” I laughed nervously with a small wave. “Uh what are you doing here?”

“Patrolling.” Sterling laughed. “You’re on our land.”

I looked down on the ground at my feet and then looked back up. “Right. I knew that.”

Zale laughed and gave me a warm smile.

“What are you doing here?” Sterling teased as he asked me my own question.

Little bastard...

“Uh patrolling as well.” I said back.

“For what?” He asked. “Like demons?”

I nodded. “Correct.”

“It’s still weird to believe that those things really do exist.” Harvey said. “And I’ll admit. Those things are hella scary.”

“Oh trust me. I know.” I laughed.

“It’s nice to see you again.” Zale smiled.

I looked over at Zale and I found myself smiling back. “You too.”

“Sterling.” Harvey smiled. “I think I heard my mom calling for us.”

Sterling nodded. “I think so too.”

Harvey and Sterling both took off running while they were laughing and left Zale and I alone. Oh great...this is just what I wanted.

I gulped and looked at Zale, only to find him already staring at me.

Oh yay! Because this isn’t totally awkward.

Well for him at least. He looks really calm. But me? Nooo. I’m far from calm. My brain is freaking out and is telling, no let me correct that, screaming at me to run far, far away.

“So how have you been Kasey?” Zale asked as he walked over to a tree and sat down. He patted the spot next to him and I huffed.

But I’ll admit. I was okay with it because he smelled so good.

I laughed in my head and I looked up at him. Why is he so damn tall?

“I’ve been good. Nothing new.” I responded.

“Are you sure?” He asked as he tilted his head and studied my face.

I gave him a confused look. “Yes. Why do you ask?”

“You look tense.”

How did he know that something is wrong? No one can ever tell. I’ve learned to hide it very well and people always believe it.

“Kasey.” Zale said softly with a small smile. “You know you can talk to me, right?”

I sighed and started playing with the grass. “Maximus and I got into a little fight.”

“About what?” Zale asked concerned.

You...being my mate...and a werewolf.

“I snuck out the other night and visited my house I use to live in when I was, well alive.” I said letting out a small chuckle.

“Wait.” Zale laughed. “You snuck out of heaven?” I nodded with a smile. “Well that’s not something that people usually hear every day.”

I let out a laugh. “It’s actually a lot harder than you think.”

“Really?” He asked looking shocked. “Ooh tell me about it.”

I giggled as I looked at his face. His puckered out his bottom lip and folded his hands as if saying please.

I nodded. “Well, heaven is just like you could imagine it. Pearly white gates and golden paths. Angels everywhere. Everyone is always happy.” I looked at Zale for a moment and he had this look of awe written all over his face. I smiled and continued. “Those are the normal angels. The ones who die and get sent to heaven because they believe in God and asked for forgiveness of their sins. See. Just because you believe in God, doesn’t mean that you get sent to heaven. You have to show him that you truly are one of his followers and ask for forgiveness of his sins.”

“Is He nice?” Zale asked.

“Yes.” I nodded. “But when He’s angry. You better run.”

Zale laughed. “Continue please.”

“Then there are the warrior angels. Or guardian angels. Whichever you prefer to call us.” I shrugged. “We are the ones that hold meetings and patrol earth. But we can transform into a human. That form is the most recent version of us when we were alive, right before we died. But because we are angels now, that isn’t our true form anymore. That is just a safety mechanism for when we take turns patrolling on earth. We are also the ones that can directly speak to God.”

“That’s honestly really fascinating.” Zale smiled big.

“It’s amazing up there. It’s so free.” I smiled back.

“Oh blah blah blah.” A voice hissed.

I jumped up at the voice and saw a demon.

Of fucking course! Geez. Can I ever get a break?

“Ooh. I smell a dog.” The demon smirked. “It must be you.”

Zale growled.

“Calm down boy.” The demon teased. “Can you sit? Sit down. Come on puppy, sit.”

I took a big step away from Zale. I honestly think he is about to blow up.

“Kasey you need to leave.” Zale said through gritted teeth.

I scoffed. “Hell no. I’m the angel. The demons are my responsibility.”

“I have many wolves on their way. They can’t see you.” Zale warned me. “You have to leave.”

I groaned, but I complied anyway because I knew he was right.

“Take this.” I said as I quickly grabbed my sword. “Stab him in the heart. The handle is covered in cloth. You won’t be touching the silver. Remember. Heart only. Any of place will only slow him down.”

Zale nodded and took my carefully took my sword.

I took off to the sky right as the other wolves showed up.

“Coward!” The demon yelled at me right before he got tackled by a couple wolves.

I stayed in the air and rolled my eyes. Dumbass.
