Chavias didn’t rest. He was almost never permitted it. It seems an eternity since I’ve had the Knight Sleep.

Thank God for the time with Sabine. He savored every moment with the rare creature haunting his manor.

But it’d come with a cost. Radix let him sleep through the night. A rarity.

But Chavias was immersed in talking with the lovely creature and journaling his thoughts and so he’d not woke for morning chores in the demon encampment.

So, he was drug from his bed for torture. Pulled down into the lower caves by the biting teeth of the Nonis.

Okine was less than gentle in his caring ministrations.

Still, Chavias hadn’t come out of his coma-like stupor.

As Okine grew further frustrated, the wounds he inflicted became worse. Until his body was shredded with the gashes and he was losing so much blood it was impossible for him to will them to heal instantly as he normally would have.

Radix unleashed an angry torrent of magic on Chavias until he felt like he was boiling from the inside out.

This last abuse drug him from his dreamlike state.

Lifting his eyes, he drew a slow breath. Focusing his mind on Sabine in Night Manor so he could will his spirit to remain in that peaceful place and not return to the broken body awaiting it.

Knowing Sabine’s soothing presence filled every corridor of Night Manor.

Waiting for me.

Wondering when he’d return again. And patiently talking to me when I am there.

Or touching him with gentle hands that somehow comforted her impossibly broken spirit…
