Nadia hurried to the inpatient ward of Kingsley Hospital. As soon as she reached the door, she spotted Jim and Rebecca inside Iris’s room. 

Rebecca and Iris knew each other because Rebecca and Nadia were from the same village and grew up together, even attending the same college. Both were studying performing arts at university. 

After graduation, Nadia struggled to find acting roles due to the lack of connections and had to settle for extra work in film and television. The pay was low, and it was tough to make ends meet. Eventually, she set aside her passion and, with her good friend Clare, opened a flower shop. 

Several years passed, and Rebecca was still struggling at the bottom rung of the entertainment industry. She could only land minor roles, barely making enough to get by. Jim, on the other hand, could not find a job and had to rely on Rebecca. 

Iris knew that Rebecca had a good relationship with Nadia, and she had no reason to be wary of her. 

As soon as Nadia entered the room, she saw Rebecca handing an apple to Iris. Without hesitation, Nadia rushed forward, snatched the apple from Rebecca’s hand, and tossed it into the trash can. 

Giving Rebecca a cold stare, she asked fiercely. “Who needs your apple? Both of you, leave the room.” 

Nadia suspected that Rebecca had tampered with the apple. After all, she knew Rebecca was just like the serpent tempting. Eve with the apple, with devious intentions. She could not believe that Rebecca’s visit was purely out of goodwill. 

Witnessing Nadia’s behavior, Iris was taken aback. “Nadia, what’s gotten into you? Rebecca came here with good intentions, and you’re treating her like this?” 

Iris scolded Nadia. 

Rebecca, putting on a fake show, acting as if she was wronged. “Mrs. Lewis, just look at Nadia. Jim and I came here with good intentions, and she treats us like this.” 

As Rebecca uttered those words, she added a hint of a sob, putting on a pitiful act. 

“Jim” Iris heard this and looked questioningly at the guy named Jim standing beside Rebecca. | 

Iris knew Nadia very well. Nadia and Rebecca had been best friends since childhood. If nothing had happened, Nadia would not have exploded at Rebecca without reason. 

Hearing the guy next to Rebecca being called Jim, Iris suddenly felt utterly perplexed. In her understanding, Jim was Nadia’s husband. She could not fathom how Rebecca also had a boyfriend named Jim. 

Furrowing her brow, Iris said with great confusion, “Nadia, please explain what’s going on here. Who is this young man that came with Rebecca?” 

Before Nadia could respond, Jim stepped forward and introduced himself. “Mrs. Lewis, I am Jim. 1… 

But Nadia did not let Jim finish his sentence. She grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the room. 

She cast a sharp glance at Rebecca and, trembling, said in fury, “Rebecca, you come out too. We need to talk.” 

Iris was still sick, and Nadia did not want to burden her with this situation. 

Iris watched Nadia drag the guy who claimed to be Jim out of the room. Even Rebecca was asked to leave. 

Iris knew there must have been something going on between Nadia and Rebecca. What confused her the most was the presence of two guys named Jim. She could not grasp whether the Jim who came that day was Nadia’s husband or the one who came this day 

Outside the hospital room, Nadia confronted them with a stern voice. “What exactly are you two up to?” 

“What am I up 16?” Rebecca retorted. “You cheated me out of 2,400 dollars that day, and today you have to pay it back.” Rebecca shanielessly declared. 

That day, Jim and Rebecca went to the hospital. Nadia broke Jim’s finger. The medical expenses cost 1,000 dollars, and Rebecca regretted it as soon as they got back. 

Not only did she foolishly hand over 2,400 dollars to Nadia without any reason, but she also had to pay 1,000 dollars for medical bills. On top of that, Jim signed an IOU for 40 thousand dollars, which infuriated Rebecca just thinking about it. Back in school, Nadia always had better grades than Rebecca, and both teachers and classmates adored Nadia. Even the guys Rebecca liked became Nadia’s boyfriends. 

No matter how hard Rebecca tried, everyone only saw Nadia. What annoyed her more was that everyone kept comparing her with Nadia, leaving her in Nadia’s shadow forever. Even during their auditions as extras, directors would dismiss her in 

favor of Nadia. 

It was not until the night of their college graduation, that they, along with Jim, went to the club. All three of them got drunk. Rebecca’s long–held jealousy got the best of her, and she dragged Jim into the restroom and had a fling with him.

Chapter 18 

Since then, she and Jim started meeting every once in a while and would book a room in a hotel whenever they had the time. 

Six months ago, Jim arrived in Kingsley and moved into the house Nadia was renting. 

Whenever Nadia went to the flower shop and was not at the rental house, Jim and Rebecca would have their secret rendezvous. 

Jim was shameless, pretending to be with Nadia just so he could get someone to cover his living expenses and tuition for grad school. 

When Jim graduated from grad school and was buying a necklace for Rebecca, Nadia caught them red–handed. That was when she broke up with Jim. 

“That 40 thousand dollars is what I deserve. It’s payment for all the years I spent on this scumbag Shouldn’t he pay me that?” Nadia never thought Rebecca could be so shameless. “Besides, that 2.400 dollars was for rent. He stayed at my place for so long and ate so much of my food. Shouldn’t he pay for that? How dare you come and ask me for money? Tell me, as my so–called good friend, my bestie, why did you betray me?” 

Nadia screamed hysterically, feeling utterly disgusted by Rebecca and Jim. 

Seeing Nadia in such a state, Jim coldly retorted, “Let me tell you why. We were in a relationship, yet you never let me touch you. I’m a man with normal needs. You were my girlfriend, but you wouldn’t let me get close, What kind of girlfriend is that? I’ll tell you, we’ve been together for a long time. It was on the night of our college graduation when we first got together. Blame no one but yourself.” 

He shamelessly revealed the ugly truth of their relationship to Nadia. 

Nadia could not believe how shameless Jim could be.. 

Over these years. she scrimped and saved to support him financially, paying for his living expenses and tuition. But in the end, her efforts only moved her, as Jim remained heartless and ungrateful. 

He treated her merely as a means to make money, using the money she earned to enjoy himself with other women. 

She felt like the most foolish woman in the world. 

Nadia had naively believed that Jim betrayed her only after he came to Kingsley following his grad school graduation. Little did she know that he and Rebecca had already been involved during their college graduation. 

Gradually, she had started to let go of this failed relationship, but Jim and Rebecca’s antics brought back her sadness and sorrow. Tears uncontrollably streamed down her checks. 

Rebecca, however, paid no attention to Nadia’s tears. In fact, the more Nadia cried, the happier Rebecca felt. She relished seeing Nadia forced to show her vulnerability. Rebecca despised seeing Nadia walk around as if she were outstanding and smug about herself. 

“Return the IOUs for 12,000 and 40 thousand dollars to me immediately. Also, you owe me the 1,000 dollars Jim spent at the hospital for his finger. If you don’t pay back, the consequences will be severe. We already know your grandmother is in the hospital. Today, we’re just giving you a warning, but I can’t guarantee what might happen next time.” Nadia could not believe how despicable and shameless they both were, resorting to using Iris to threaten her. 

Unbeknownst to all three of them, a man was standing around the corner, recording them with his phone. 

Everything happening was being captured clearly by another man hurrying toward them. 

Watching the scene in the video, the man standing around the corner was utterly surprised. He never expected Nadia’s situation to be so dire. Witnessing Rebecca and Jim betray Nadia and even using Iris to threaten her, he was deeply shaken. 

To him, Rebecca and Jim were truly digging their own grave. Even as an outsider, he could not help but detest them. If his boss saw this, they would be in serious trouble. He knew Rebecca and Jim were going to face major consequences. Just thinking about how his boss dealt with people made him break out in a cold sweat.
