Chapter 14 

Outside the room, Daisy was wearing a set of pajamas with a small jacket on top. She stood with her ears pressed against the door, listening intently to the sounds inside. 

The more she listened, the more furrowed her brows became 

“You little brat!” Daisy cursed inwardly. Tve gone to great lengths to create opportunities for you two. Why can’t you. understand my good intentions?” 

Daisy refused to believe it and continued to listen attentively to the sounds inside. Her ears were practically standing up like 

a rabbit’s cars. 

She listened for a good 10 minutes, but there was still no sound coming from inside. 

Daisy’s heart sank, a disappointed look appearing on her face. 

She thought James was truly a good–for–nothing, not taking advantage of the chances she had created for them. 

Daisy had given birth to two sons for the Howe family, and those two sons had brought her five grandsons. 

For so many years. Daisy had dreamed of having a granddaughter. But her two disappointing sons couldn’t even bring her at granddaughter. All they produced were boys. 

Now that her sons and daughters–in–law were getting older, in their 40s and 50s, it wasn’t possible for them to have children. 

This was why Daisy had to pin her hopes on her grandchildren. 

James was the oldest grandson in the Howe family. He was already 28 years old and didn’t even have a girlfriend. 

So Daisy had to take action. 

James once complained, “If you want a great–granddaughter, you should find someone else to rely on. It’s not fair. Grandma 

Daisy didn’t want to push too hard. She knew that her eldest grandson had a poker face, but she had managed to make him agree to marry Nadia in such a short amount of time. That was already a huge concession for him. 

Daisy had successfully made the newlyweds sleep in the same room this night, bringing her dream of holding her great–granddaughter closer. 

Inside the room, James couldn’t fall asleep at all. He looked at the woman lying on his chest, so close to him, and smelled the fragrance emanating from her body, which instantly stirred his desires. 

He had to close his eyes and take a deep breath to calm himself down. 

When James opened his eyes again, he saw Nadia’s face. Her skin was fair and radiant under the bedside lamp, with arched. eyebrows, closed eyes beneath her eyebrows, and eyelashes that curved slightly upward like two small crescents. Her nose was high and delicate, complemented by her cute small mouth. She was breathtakingly beautiful and captivating. 

As James looked at her closely, he realized how attractive she was. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed. 

When did he become so horny for a woman like her? 

James shook his head. If he continued in this position, he couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t do anything to her that night. 

However, James wasn’t the type to take advantage of someone in a vulnerable position, even though they were already 

married. 

The woman in his arms was his rightful wife. Even if he wanted to have sex with her, it would only happen when she had a clear mind and was willing to do so, 

James had enough self–control for that. He gently removed her delicate hand from his arm and carefully moved her head away from his chest. Only then did he sit up, moving her slender and long legs pressed against his waist. 

“Why is this woman so restless in her sleep?” James wondered. “Is she mistaking me for a pillow or something?” 

James quickly covered her with the quilt, afraid that he wouldn’t be able to control himself in the next moment and ravish her completely. 

Once the quilt was in place, he swiftly got out of bed and rushed into the bathroom at lightning speed. He turned on the tap and took a cold shower. After putting on his pajamas, he walked out of the bathroom and looked at the woman sleeping peacefully in his bed, feeling furious. This was his bed, and she was shamelessly sleeping on it as if it were her own. If he went back to sleep with her, he guaranteed that it would definitely be a sleepless night. 

Glancing at the foot of the bed, James finally decided to take his pillow and sleep at the other end. 

Out of sight, out of mind. 

James hadn’t been lying down for long when drowsiness overcame him. In a hazy state, he felt something pressing on his chest. Opening his eyes, he realized that a foot was resting on his chest. 

Chapter 14 

James had a cleanliness obsession. How could he tolerate someone putting their foot on his chest? Unable to bear it any longer, he pushed the foot away and sat up. 

The force was strong, and Nadia instantly woke up from her sleep. 

James’s face was cold as ice. He asked in a deep voice. “Are you trying to make me fall asleep with the smell of y 

Nadia had no idea what was going on. She sat up, looking at James at the other end of the bed. 

“What is he doing over there?” she wondered. 

Besides, she didn’t have athlete’s foot. How could her feet smell? 

But then again. Nadia knew that her sleeping position was not good, especially in his room. 

“Forget it,” she thought. “Whatever he said is the truth.”

I’m sorry for disturbing you. How about you go to sleep first?” After saying that, Nadia wrapped herself up in the quilt and sat up, leaning against the headboard. 

James checked the time and saw that it was already past midnight. He had to go to work the next day and face those old fogies. Although he was now the president of Howe Group, Jack, his second uncle, was watching him closely, just waiting for an opportunity to take him down from his position. The next day was the shareholders‘ meeting, and he had to be fully prepared. 

With that in mind, James closed his eyes and soon drifted off to sleep. 

Nadia heard James’s steady breathing on the other end and slowly lay down with sleepy eyes. She wrapped herself in the quilt again, afraid that she might fall asleep and not keep her hands and feet still. 

After double–checking, she finally relaxed and drifted into a deep sleep. 

Nadia had a good habit of going to bed and waking up early. The next morning, as the sky was just starting to brighten, she couldn’t sleep anymore. 

She got up and prepared to change her clothes. They had gotten back late the previous night. With the awkward. atmosphere, she couldn’t remember if she had taken out her clothes from the suitcase. 

Nadia opened the suitcase and took out a set of white sportswear with a hood. She took off her pajamas and was about to put on the sportswear to go out and make breakfast. However, just as she took off her camisole pajamas, she suddenly remembered that there was still a man lying on the bed. 

Nadia quickly held the clothes in front of her chest, her heart racing. She widened her eyes and quickly turned her head to look at the man on the bed. 

Seeing that James had his eyes tightly closed and hadn’t woken up, Nadia finally breathed a sigh of relief. Although the man on the bed was her husband in name, they hadn’t had any intimate contact yet. They hadn’t reached the stage of being completely open with each other. 

Holding her clothes, Nadia hurriedly rushed into the bathroom. She quickly put on her clothes and walked out of the bathroom, only to see the man on the bed still in the same position. The quilt had slipped off, and half of his body was exposed. 

The temperature in March mornings was still quite low. Considering that James had behaved like a gentleman the previous. night, Nadia bent down quietly and covered him with the quilt. 

As Nadia looked at his handsome face, which was so close, she couldn’t help but take a few more glances at his distinct facial features, prominent nose, thin lips, and perfect jawline. Everything about him was just too perfect. 

How could there be such a good–looking man in the world? It made her, as a woman, feel inferior. 

Just as Nadia was lost in her thoughts, James’s long eyelashes fluttered. He opened his eyes, looking at her. 

A hint of a smile appeared in his eyes. “Have you seen enough? If you have, move aside. I’m getting up.” 

Nadia’s face instantly turned red. Suddenly, she realized that she had just stripped naked in front of him. Did he see everything?
