Fight for Me
Future Luna

After Layla took a shower and got dressed from a selection of the ever-present fresh clothes in the closet, Margret came into the room with a tray filled with a heavy breakfast.

Margret offered to escort Layla to Tyler’s office if she wished to help with his lack of filing again. She was more than willing to go rather than just sitting in the room, possibly all alone with Margret, watching her.

As weirdly as Margret has been treating her for the past few days which confused Layla, the fact that her attitude hasn’t had a sudden change due to last night’s occurrences, has her somewhat relieved. Just like Nick’s indifferent attitude towards everything, makes things less awkward than what they probably should have been.

Walking into Tyler’s office she sees him hidden behind stacks of files on his desk.

Layla clears her throat and takes a heavy breath, preparing herself to make her presence known.

How will he react? He saw what happened last night.

Tyler suddenly looks up sensing her presence. He jumps up from his seat, and to Layla’s surprise, he rushes to her with a huge smile on his face.

“Layla.” He grabs her hand and pulls her past the cluttered desk. “I heard you might be coming by to help me out.”

“Uhm. Yes.” She tilts her head with some confusion marking her face.

“What?”

“Uhm. It-it’s just,…..why are you being so nice to me?”

He returns her confused look with his own.

“What do you mean? Was I ever rude to you?” As serious as he sounds, she can still pick up on his teasing tone.

“No. But,….after what happened yesterday. The attack. And you saw,…me-” She nervously tilts her head hoping he would catch her meaning and she wouldn’t have to complete her sentence.

“Well, I’m not going to lie and say that I wasn’t thrown for a loop, when I saw you,….” he points up and down at her. “you practically resurrecting. But, then again, you were a mystery box since the day you got here. So I can’t really hold your secrets against you. Besides, Nicholas said that as long as you’re here, you’re under his protection. And now that we know you’re his mate, that means you’re under the pack’s protection as well.”

Her eyes widen slightly. They all know?

She can hear Tyler chuckling from her reaction.

“And is everyone just fine with that? I’m sure they must be angry in the least. Especially because the attack was because of me.” She ends with a guilty whisper.

“You aren’t responsible for that attack, Layla. Besides, it’s not like you were behind it. So don’t worry yourself too much about what others think. This pack trusts their alpha, and they will protect their future Luna.” He smirks.

Future Luna?

Hearing those words, she-herself is thrown for a loop. She and Nick still need to have their discussion and figure out if she even wants to go forward at working this mate bond-relationship, -or whatever it’s called-, thing out with him.

But hearing Tyler talk so comfortably and ‘happily’ about her being Nick’s mate makes her feel like smiling. She thought they would have been angry, perhaps disgusted, with their alpha being mated to a human. But now she’s tempted to feel her cheeks to just be sure if she’s really blushing.

“So it doesn’t bother you that I’m,……….not a wolf.” She tries to choose her words carefully.

“I for one am just ecstatic that Nicholas found his mate and he’s actually making sure to keep you here this time.” He tries to hide, what looks like a guilty expression. “You know he actually came into the office this morning with a smile on his face.” Tyler nudges her with his elbow.

“Come on.” He guides her away from his desk, and to the coffee table on the other side of the room.

He chuckles seeing the annoyed look she gives him.

“Hey, I tried. Besides, these are at least sorted. Somewhat.”

He sits her down on the couch, in front of the other stacks she can’t believe she didn’t notice before when she walked in.

“Did you at least make sure they’re sorted by date?” She looks at him with a raised eyebrow.

But he scratches the back of his head and looks down. “Uhm. I did it alphabetically.”

She huffs out disbelievingly, but with an amused smile tipping her mouth.

“Dammit. This is why it’s taking me forever to cross-reference them.” He sighs out. “Well, at least my future Luna is here to save my ass.”

Hearing that title still makes her feel a bit awkward. But it’s best to just ignore it until I sort things out with Nick.

She does feel guilty knowing that there is a part of her that actually wants to know what it would be like to stay and be with Nick. There always has been. But she nonetheless knows that she needs to be smart about this. She can’t just stay.

They might be fine with me not being a wolf, or even human. But if they find out what I really am, I might just become their number one enemy. Nick’s as well. But he’s never really judged me before. Oh crap. I don’t know. I’ll tell him when the time seems right. But not now. There is so much more that we still need to discuss.

Putting all her focus in the paperwork, the room is filled with a calm quiet, for barely thirty seconds when Tyler joins her, asking for help.
