Charles grabbed Josephine’s hand excitedly and continued, “Josic, why don’t you leave the Levine family and come back to 

me?” 

Josephine frowned and pulled back her hand. 

She stared at Charles coldly and retorted, “Whatever status or net worth you have right now has nothing to do with me!” 

“What do you mean by it has nothing to do with you?” demanded Charles. “Everything I did was for you!” 

Charles did not let up. “Josie, I didn’t have anything before. I couldn’t provide you with anything! It was also the reason why Valeria bullied you. I swore to you that I would avenge you! Now I have accomplished that!” 

“You should know by now that George is in prison! Moreover, I’ve ended my relationship with Valeria too! Everything their family has suffered is their retribution!” Charles exclaimed to Josephine. 

Josephine was unmoved by Charles‘ speech.. 

Since the beginning, what she cared about was never some social status. Charles never needed to compromise himself to obtain whatever accomplishments he had today. 

“Charles, since finding out that you were in a relationship with Valeria, I have realized our ideologies are different. Our life paths and values are not the same,” explained Josephine. 

“Your success and everything you have right now is for your personal satisfaction, and it has never had anything to do with me!” continued Josephine. 

Josephine had a cold look in her eyes. 

She said to Charles firmly, “We were done a long time ago! It doesn’t matter who you are right now. It is impossible for us to reconcile no matter what kind of identity or status you have.” 

“I have never asked you to avenge me! No matter how terrible of a person Valeria was, she was sincere with you and treated you so well! If you were with her just for the sake of money, as long as you were good to her, at least I would have thought you had a little conscience! You used her to get ahead, and after you succeeded, you just threw her away,” Josephine remarked to Charles. 

Josephine could only see unfamiliarity when she gazed into Charles‘ eyes. “When people see someone like you, they will only feel more repulsed.” 

Charles was rendered speechless. 

He did not foresee Josephine would view him this way and find him repulsive. 

He held Josephine’s hand and gazed at her affectionately as he ranted, “Josie, how could you think like that? Valeria was your nemesis and your moriál enemy!” 

Charles continued, “Back then, her jealousy over our relationship made her steal your design draft. She is the reason you had to leave fie design industry.” 

“Besides, we were initially a couple who were the envy of everyone. We could have been blissful! It’s all thanks to Valeria, who sabotaged me and deliberately made me lose my job! She was the one who seduced me and made it so that I could only stay with her…” Charles trailed off. 

Josephine did not wait for Charles to finish before she shook him off. 

She stared at Charles coldly and snapped, “What about now? Valeria is out of the picture. Haven’t you gotten together with Quinlyn now instead?” 

Charles was shocked. 

It was out of his expectation that Josephine would know about it. 

However, he figured it out very quickly. “Did Ragnar inform you regarding all of this?” 

“That must be it. How can Josephine be invited to the Lambert family’s banquet with her status and identity? She must have come here with Ragnar, thought Charles. 

Charles was so furious. 

He questioned Josephine. “In what capacity are you here with Ragnar? Is it as the nanny of the Ragnar family or some other identity?” 

Josephine sneered in a low voice. “Humph!” 

She retorted to Charles. It has nothing to do with you!” 

Charles insisted, “How can it not matter? Josie, I love you! Even if you have lost something before this, I don’t care! All I want is for you to come back to me!” 

Charles kept on talking about his deep affection for Josephine. He kept saying that everything he did was for Josephine. 

However, Josephine was not an idiot. 

She might have been blinded by Charles standing before her in the past, but she knew better now. “Charles, you are just too ambitious. You would go to any lengths for your ambition! You are just a cold and cruel man,” mocked Josephine. 

She added, “It was never for anyone’s sake!” 

Josephine continued, “No matter if it was Valeria, who you were with before, or Quinlyn, who you are with currently, you are just with them for your clear objective!” 

Charles choked out. “It’s not like that!” 

He grabbed Josephine’s hand again and explained, “It’s true I’m with Quinlyn now, but this is only going to be temporary.” 

“Josie, you are the only person I have ever loved from beginning to end!” Charles pleaded. 

“I’m ambitious and wanted to obtain more power and status! Is there anything wrong with that?” Charles asked Josephine. 

“Josie, I just don’t want things to be the same as it was before. The company dismissed me so easily! I don’t want to simply be trampled upon by others or have my fate decided by others! All I want is to succeed. I’m diligent, and I want to give you a better life. What’s wrong with that?” Charles continued. 

Charles looked at Josephine with dark eyes and said, “Didn’t you also give in to your circumstances in life? Didn’t you want a better life as well?” 

Charles mocked, “If that was not the case, why do you have to stay in the Levine mansion? Why would you shamelessly seduce Ragnar? Hmm?” 

Josephine frowned when she heard Charles‘ mocking. 

Charles continued, “Although I am not as powerful as Ragnar right now, very soon, I will wield the same power as him!” 

“If you were willing to follow Ragnar, why can’t you follow me then?” asked Charles. 

“Josie, compared to Ragnar, I’m the one who sincerely loves you! If you come with me now, even though you might have to suffer being aggrieved for a short time, eventually, I will marry you!” Charles promised. 

Josephine did not want to drag on the conversation with Charles, so she turned around, wanting to leave. 

Charles held onto Josephine and would not let her go, no matter what. He wanted to hug and even kiss her. 

Josephine was livid. “Charles, if you keep pestering me, I will shout for help! At that time, let’s give Quinlyn and the Lambert family an opportunity to see how you keep pestering me.” 

Josic, I know you won’t do that!” said Charles decisively. 

His gaze darkened as he hugged Josephine and coaxed her, “Stop making a fuss. Let’s reconcile, shall we?” 

Josephine struggled against Charles. “Let go of me!” 

Charles held Josephine tightly. 

He needed to confirm that Josephine still liked him and that she still had feelings for him. He leaned over, wanting to kiss Josephine. 

Josephine slapped him in the face. 

Charles‘ eyes widened in surprise. He muttered, “You…” 

“Get lost!” Josephine raised her foot in outrage and stomped hard on Charles‘ foot with her three–inch high heels. 

Charles hissed in pain. 

He felt that the bones on his instep were about to be stomped until they broke by Josephine. “How could she be so cruel?” wailed Charles mentally. 

She hit and even stomped on him. 

Meanwhile, Josephine had already pushed Charles away and turned to leave. 

Her back was decisive, and she walked away in long strides hurriedly. 

Josephine hurried into the hall and saw Ragnar at a glance. He was standing there, staring at her with his dark eyes. 

Ragnar had a really icy stare. It was as if he had discovered that his wife had done something inexcusable behind him. He appeared to want to kill someone with the icy expression in his eye. 

Josephine walked toward him. 

Ragnar’s cold, murderous eyes went past Josephine, and landed on Charles, who was still holding onto his foot. “Is he still pestering you?” Ragnar asked through gritted teeth. 

Josephine shook her head and then nodded again.
