Dream by the Shadows: Glossary of Terms

Absolvers: Men and women given an allowance by the sovereign of Noctis to distribute and regulate the kingdom’s elixir supply.

Corruption: A deadly affliction caused by the Shadow Bringer and his demons. A human can become Corrupt after a demon claims them in the Dream Realm. The only cure is through a “purification” ritual performed by the Light Bringer. The soul will be saved, but the mortal body will perish.

Demons: Monsters that haunt humanity’s dreams and plague the Shadow Bringer.

Domains: Separate “kingdoms” within the Dream Realm that each host a Weaver. Dream scholars and acolytes are given small domains by which to practice and hone their skills.

Elixir: The only known substance to control Corruption. When consumed, it prevents the user from dreaming. However, it is extremely costly.

Light Bringer: As the esteemed sovereign of Noctis and leader of the Light Legion, Mithras Atrelle Tethebrum seeks to purify the kingdom’s Corrupt. However, something twisted lurks behind his golden eyes.

Light Legion: Led by Mithras, the Light Bringer, the Light Legion travels the kingdom of Noctis to purify its Corrupted.

Maker: The central deity of Noctis who manages the Dream Realm and communicates to humanity through the Weavers.

Shadow Bringer: A monster said to have unleashed Corruption upon mankind. Though locked in a tomb five-hundred years ago, the Shadow Bringer still lives, sealed in with the demons only he can contain.

Righted King: A fabled king said to have united the seven Weavers in a battle against the Shadow Bringer’s demons. Before his death and the defeat of the Weavers, he created the elixir and sealed the Shadow Bringer inside a tomb.

Weavers: Immortal, powerful, and anointed by the Maker, Weavers manage, monitor, and protect the Dream Realm. They mysteriously vanished after demons, heralded by the Shadow Bringer, overran the Realm.
