Down End Road
Chapter 39

Kayden slapped his hand on the side of my neck and pushed me to the side. I hated not being able to see his next movements. I released his shoulder and brought my hand up to his forearm. I squeezed, and using my gifts, flipped him over. I kept ahold of his arm, not willing to loose contact and in turn, his position.

I felt a hesitant ankle between my legs before the foot hooked around my calf and pulled me to the ground. Kaydens arm was still in my grasp. I twisted to the side, so that my feet -hopefully- faced his torso.

My feet felt their way to his ribs, before I started pushing with all my might and pulled his arm along with me. Gravel and thorns dug into my skin, I felt a snag on my suit and knew there was going to be a hole there.

I had lost focus. Kayden brought up his arm, and tried to fling me off him. I felt him slowly stand, and drag me with him. I attatched myself to his arm with a ferocious tenacity. I heard a few muffled conversations, a few cheers and a couple snickers.

I must look ridiculous, I thought. "Go on girl!" I heard Ally cheer. I twitched my lips. My legs were wrapped around his torso and I clung to him like a Koala.

An ingeniously stupid, idea popped into my head. I had seen comics in store and this weird move where they swung their legs around their attackers necks and sent the tumbling to the ground.

I started to scamper up his incredibly tall frame. "Get off me you psycho Koala incarnate." Kayden yelled. I cackled maniacally.

"You really should stop thinking of big words," I grunted as I wrapped my legs around his neck. "And start planning battle tactics." I insulted. I sent my weight to one side and sent the lanky giant down, me attached to his shoulders.

I felt my torso slam to the ground, my head along with it. A disorienting pain filled my head and I felt blood dribble down my cheek. Multiple gasps filled the small space.

I heard numerous screeched roars of rage fill the air as the Grimers presumedly flew overhead.

"You mental chimp." Kayden roared, as he unwound my legs from his neck. I quickly stood, dizziness filled my imageless mind. My thigh had protected his head and I felt a big scrape on it, from where I had landed on a rock.

Definitely not like the comics, my thoughts laughed. I was cut and bruised and dizzy, and yet the first thing that came to mind was how funny this was. I chuckled and heard a multitude of murmurs increase in volume.

"Bring it on string bean," I challenged. I heard slow footsteps shuffle around me. The compression of air next to me, identified his presence. I stuck out my arm and connected a small tap with his figure. I heard him grunt in annoyance, and before I knew it, his fist connected with my jaw.

My head snapped to the side, my hand desperately grasped at the material of his suit. I was not going to lose his location, again. I felt a sharp pain in my calf before another blow was landed on my stomach. "Low blow dude," I wheezed out before I connected my free fist with whatever piece of him I could him.

A sharp surface beneath my skin told me I either hit his breast plate or cheek. His grunt of pain told me it was the latter. I grinned triumphantly. All this for a bauble. My mind sighed disappointedly.

"Thats for calling me a psycho Koala." I explained. I connected my foot with his side, my hand still tightly grasped his suit. "That's for calling me a mental chimp." I continued.

His hands desperately clawed at my fist on his suit. His nails dug into my skin and I felt my eyes begin to water. I took a deep breath, grunted then continued with my parade of punches and kicks.

I stomped on his foot, hooked my ankle around his ankles, pulled them towards me, and controlled his lumbering descent with the fist I had used to grasp at his suit.

My hand burned with his raw scratch marks. My bleeding lip throbbed. My thigh pulsed with a persistent stinging pain. A slight dizziness still overtook my head and I felt my torn fingernails sting.

My abdomen was probably bruised purple and blue from his persistent struggle. I wheezed out every breath I took. I dropped to my knees and straddled Kaydens torso. I began my pat down for the treasure.

A leathery cord and crystal was strung around his neck, but I knew what I was looking for. A metal feather, and I found just that in the space between his breastplate and suit. Before I could fully pull it out, I felt hands grope my neck. Once my attacker had found a firm hold he began to squeeze.

I wheezed and puffed. My trachea slowly being crushed. My feet scrambled around me. I was faintly aware of my name being called. Orange and pink spots filled my black vision, and I reached my hands up to claw and scratch at his hands.

I then moved my hands to his face, formed a fist and began my weak pummelling. Crack, the crack of bone reverberated through the clearing. I felt Kayden's choking hold loosen, just as my eyes rolled back in my head.

I gasped, greedily gulping in the air. I panted, my body grateful for every lungful of air. "You... are... gonna get it Kayden." I puffed. I began to throw a few more punches. Kaydens moans of pain filled the chasm of silence around us.

I stopped, my fist mid air, when the roaring screeches of the Grimers surrounded the clearing. I scrambled to find the feather, once more tucking my hand into the space between his plate and suit. I ripped it away from him.

I stood up and stumbled. Ally caught my swaying frame in her arms. I lifted my wrist to my cheeks and wiped away the streak of blood.

"Are you okay." I faintly registered Ally's voice, the buzzing noise in my ears persistently drowned out all sound. I pinched my nose and blew. My ears still buzzed. I banged my head. The buzzing noise remained. On the third try, I shook my head. The buzzing noise dimmed.

"Myra, Myra, Myra." Alex chanted close to me. "She's not responding!" Alex yelled. "Your a dead man walking Kayden." Alex threatened across the clearing.

I moved my hands around the space. My arms bumped into a solid form and I grabbed its arm. "I'm fine." I reassured. The figure then moved my hand from their arm and redirected me to, who I assumed was Alex.

"Tell that to him." Jason chuckled. I sighed, pure tiredness overwhelmed me.

"Nah, too tired," I dismissed with a quiet breathy exhaustion in my voice. I could imagine everyone smiling with laughter. Mavericks chuckle confirmed that at least someone found my joke funny. Until I heard a twig snap. I frowned, my eyes widened at the threat.

A whizzing sound sliced through the air, and the next thing I know, immense pain sliced through my shoulder. I screamed.
