Romano decided to inform me today of a last-minute shipment to New York, but the only guys I would trust to oversee the delivery are here, in Italy.

“Good morning, Luca. Is your fiancé waking you up at seven in the morning now?” Frankie’s voice is filled with gravel. I’m pretty sure I just woke him up.

“Frankie, is Jax trained up enough to handle cargo?” I don’t even say hello. Romano has my head all messed up with these surprise demands.

All I want to focus on is how to get some time alone with Rosa.

He groans. “I wouldn’t recommend sending him in alone. He’s still learning the ropes and can be a bit, well, heavy-handed.”

Shit.

A woman’s voice comes through from his end with a soft lilt of Italian. “Can’t the boat be delayed? We’re heading back state-side in just a few days.” His words get muffled, like he’s covering the phone.

“No, it can’t be delayed. Romano said this was an important delivery. Nevermind. I’ll take care of it.” I hit end and stare at my phone.

Asshole. He’s always getting laid.

I dial the only other person in the world I would trust, my brother.

“Luca, is everything okay?” Recently, every time we speak, Keller’s voice is filled with concern.

“Yes, everything is good. But—”

He chuckles, cutting me off. “I knew something was coming.”

“I need you to oversee a shipment tomorrow. Romano surprised me with it this morning.”

I wouldn’t drag him into this if I didn’t have to. I let him dip his toes back in when it came to finding Maddie.

“Err, yeah sure. How long are we talking? Sienna isn’t feeling well again.”

Shit. I pinch the bridge of my nose.

“No, don’t worry, Frankie has Jax up to speed. I’m sure he will be fine.”

He growls. “Don’t be so fucking stupid, Brother. I’ll do it. You know I will do anything for you. Stop trying to do everything on your own.”

I’m trying to keep him out of this mess.

“Plus, you know I’m good at my job.”

That is true.

“Fine. I’ll send Jax and my best recruits with you. Let me know when it’s done. Just keep your eyes peeled. We can’t trust Romano.” It pisses me off he scheduled this when he knew I’d be out of the city.

“Anything else you need to tell me?”

“No,” I reply quickly.

“I’ll let you know when it’s done. I had best go and sweet talk my wife.”

As soon as we cut the call, I lay on the bed, hands behind my head, and stare up at the ceiling fan, the warm breeze blowing through the sliding doors. My brother has it all–the wife, the kids, he’s just so happy.

I want that.
