NAEL

It's been two weeks since Delilah started work and things have never been as good as they are now. After lunch with Delilah, we only saw each other when I had to sign documents. There were problems with the delivery and I had to take care of it.

I hadn't left it at that, because Delilah was already understretched and twiddling her thumbs in her office chair.

I had put the entire financial situation of the house in her hands. That was a complete success with her.

I felt more and more like Scrooge McDuck with the dollar sign in my eyes.

I hadn't heard from Ilay yet, God knows what he did, and where God and the world are, it doesn't take long for the devil to get involved.

My iPhone vibrated as I looked at the display and saw that Ilay was the caller.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. My father always said that you had to be damn friendly when communicating by phone and email, and he emphasised the word "damn" every time.

Now it was time, I picked up the phone. Friendly as fuck.

"Good morning Ilay! Nice to hear from you," or not.

"Good morning Nael, I don't have much time and I'll get straight to the point. You have something that belongs to me and I want it back. Agreed?"

"Hmm, I don't know what I should have that belongs to you?" I couldn't help grinning and turned round in my chair.

"Churchill's daughter, Delilah," Ilay said in a more venomous tone.

"Oh, you mean Delilah... I didn't realise she was your partner. I thought you had rejected yours?"

"She's not my mate either, she's my maid," he insisted.

"Wow Ilay, you're surprising me with some things today. Are you sure we're talking about the same Delilah? My Delilah is a genius if you ask me.... Even our father is convinced of her, she has the finances totally under control, better than you and me together."

I heard a low growl on the other end of the line and giggled. Apparently Ilay didn't like the fact that our father was already involved in everything. Best of all was when he came to visit to meet Delilah. When I showed him what Delilah had already accomplished, his mouth fell open.

"Brother? Don't be mad... Maybe you can find another doll to compare to your mate. Delilah is dismissed from your service, father's orders."

"Oh no, don't think you can get away with the father act Nael.... See you around," Ilay hung up.

I bit my lower lip with a grin and sighed contentedly. I wondered how long it would be before Ilay was on the mat.

As I had the phone in my hand anyway, I could text my father a reminder straight away.

>Ilay has called, the drama is pre-programmed.<

There was a knock on my door and Ilay came into my office and stood in front of my desk. Wow, that really didn't take long.

He looked at me with raised eyebrows. The way he gritted his teeth, you could see his entire cheekbones jutting out.

"I didn't think you'd come so quickly," I said to him, pointing to one of the armchairs.

"Sit down, Ilay, I think we have something to talk about."

"Oh, indeed we do. How dare you interfere in my affairs anyway," he said, looking at me seriously.

I had to laugh at his words and shook my head: "You're wrong, brother. It wasn't me who forced Delilah to shoot her ex... She even told me that she hadn't rejected him until that day. Did you know that?"

Ilay paused for a moment and pierced me with his gaze.

"Do you know how much you hurt her?"

Ilay's silence was a sign that he finally seemed to be using his wits.

"I don't care, I don't have feelings for her," he replied, looking me in the eye.

I couldn't help but smile and shook my head: "Then you don't mind if she stays with me for a while. Are we on the same page?"

A growl escaped his throat and he now stood leaning towards me, his hands on my desk.

"Are we clear?" He slapped the table so hard that a crack formed in it.

I raised my eyebrows in amusement: "Oh, so you don't care about her after all?"

He rolled his eyes "I don't care about her feelings, but that doesn't change the fact that I want her. I have my own interests."

The thing with Ilay was getting more and more exciting as he went from one lie to the next.

"Tell me about it, you know I like to listen to you," I nodded for him to sit down again.

"You know, I bought a retirement home in the human world," Ilay began to tell me and his face changed.

I nodded: "I've heard about that." I'd also heard that he'd ripped out a woman's heart and saw it as compensation. Typical Ilay, whenever he messed up, he always tried to make amends. He seemed to have reached the point where he wanted to make it up to Delilah.

This time I would make it harder for him for fun.

"The administration there sucks, I need someone to make it better. By that I mean Delilah," was it hope that showed on his face?

Do you think, Ilay, you can wrap me round your finger that easily?

'Well, then bring everything here, she can do everything here just as well,' was my suggestion.

He frowned and shook his head: "That's not possible, I need someone on site."

"Delilah doesn't have time to deal with your shit, Ilay. You should have thought of that option before you forced her into it and knowing you, you'll do something stupid again, so no. Delilah stays here." That was the last word I had to say.

Ilay sometimes felt like Damon from Vampire Diaries. He was the naïve brother who was always ready to mess up, while Stephan tried to stop him every time.

"Are you serious, Nael? You're comparing me to Damon from Vampire Diaries and you think you're Stephan who can save me?"

He grinned mischievously and shook his head.

"No my dear, you can't be saved. If I didn't know any better, I'd have to kill you one day to put an end to all this," I said, shrugging my shoulders and running my fingers through my hair.

"I have to hand it to you Ilay, you have good taste in women and you've found a rare diamond in Delilah," I winked at him.

"That was pure coincidence, she practically walked into my arms," he replied, watching me like a hawk.

There was a knock on the door as Delilah was already standing in the middle of the room with a pile of papers blocking her view.

"Good morning Nael, I've brought you the papers you need to sign... They need to be returned as soon as possible," she said, placing the stack on my desk.

Delilah was wearing a pencil skirt and a black satin shirt tucked halfway into the skirt. Her hair fell to her shoulders. All in all, Delilah looked very good.

"Thank you so much, dear, I'll get right on it as soon as my brother leaves here," I said to her, keeping my gaze fixed on Ilay.

Ilay was looking at Delilah and had also sized her up.

Delilah frowned, and suddenly she noticed Ilay sitting slightly backwards from her.

You would have thought she'd seen a ghost the way she looked.

"Hello Laylah, don't you say hello to me anymore?" Ilay asked provocatively, grinning at her.

Her mouth stood open for a moment, "Good morning," she mumbled quietly to herself and looked at me. Her look was more of a cry for help.

"You can go again, Delilah, I'll bring you the papers as soon as I've finished them."

Mmm, this wasn't the right way for Ilay to make a peace treaty....

The way Ilay was going at the moment, I honestly wondered if he hadn't switched off his emotions?

"Why don't you stay here Delilah and keep us company... After all, I'm here as a guest and hospitality is very important in my brother's house, isn't it Nael?" It was more of an order than a request that he addressed to Delilah and she stood rooted to the spot.

"Ilay, don't exaggerate. Delilah has enough to do, let her go," I said in a serious tone.

"Delilah and I have something to talk about, Nael. I won't hurt her, don't worry. I want you to sit on my lap, Laylah."

Damn, Ilay must have gone crazy now. You could see Delilah resisting. "No..."

"No? Come on, Laylah..." Ilay demanded again, his words infuriating me.

"I said no..." Delilah looked like she was about to explode. I too had had enough of Ilay's behaviour: "If you don't stop your stupidity now, I swear you won't get out of here alive," I threatened him. My blood seemed to boil and I grabbed Delilah by the wrist and pulled her behind me.

Ilay rolled his eyes with a grin: "I take offence at that, Laylah... Honestly, I'm offended."

Ilay also stood up and stood in front of me: "We both know that I'm the stronger of the two of us. Come on, Nael, try to beat me," Ilay challenged me, looking over my shoulder at Delilah.

It was a typical provocation from Ilay...

"The competition never sleeps Ilay, if you think I'm on the old level, you're wrong."

Delilah was close behind me and I could feel her trembling hand in mine.

"I can see that," he said, looking at me and Delilah. He probably meant that she was standing so close to me.

"Competition..." he mumbled to himself and turned towards the door.

He stood in front of the door for a moment. When he turned back to me, his eyes were bright red and he lunged at me.

I let go of Delilah abruptly and threw him against the wall. Ilay had picked himself up in seconds and lunged at me again with his fists.

He punched me in the jaw, sending me staggering backwards.

I was furious as hell and let my demon have the upper hand. I lunged at Ilay while Delilah watched the whole scenario in shock from the far corner of the room.

I punched Ilay so hard in the pit of the stomach that he stopped breathing for seconds and refused to move.

"Find your father! Go!" I turned to Delilah, who was running hesitantly towards the door.

"He won't be able to protect her, she belongs to ME!" Ilay roared at me and continued to fight.

"We'll see about that," I hissed at him. Indeed, Ilay had always been the stronger of the two of us, but this time it was different.

I can't let him hurt Delilah again and subject her to his whims. Not after everything she had told me.

I had grown fond of Delilah and I liked her as a person... Maybe too much.

It was clear that this was going to end in bloodshed.
