Carol had no idea how to react, only remembering the office that day was a scene straight out of a soap opera.

She couldn't recall how many times she slapped Felix; it must have been a lot. And when he finally held her in his embrace, she

was still screaming obscenities at him.

She had never lost her composure like this. She was born a Miller, and never before had she been played for such a fool.

Felix, Listina, Nathan—they'd spun her around like a top.

She was such an idiot, she couldn't blListina for scolding her. She knew how resistant Felix had been at the beginning.

But she overestimated her own charm.

What a joke—a huge, pathetic joke.

She didn't remember how that day ended, now it all seemed like a blur. Only the media frenzy that followed was clear, detailing the

tragic car accident from years ago that claimed three lives on the spot.

One was Felix's father; the others were Listina's parents.

So that was it.

Felix had been out for vengeance for his fiancée all along.

He had never loved her. It was all a gto him, which is why he could walk away so easily.

He'd swiftly becthe president of the Miller Group, executing a ruthless corporate shake-up, and moved Listina into the

neighboring mansion that he'd bought for her—a mansion that stood in stark contrast to the Miller family estate that Carol had

grown up in and where Abner still lived.

Now Felix was placing Listina right next door. How quaint.

In the days that followed, Carol felt like a zombie, her mind a chaotic mess.

It seemed like a nightmare.

And the irony of it all—Felix actually proposing marriage to her.

Her offhand remark about a two-month engagement, once filled with hope, now hung in the air like a bad punchline.

She wanted to die, but Felix's cold voice brought her back.

"Abner's still waiting for your pardon."

Carol stared at him blankly, not recognizing the man in the expensive suit before her.

She thought she'd keep hysterically fighting, but real despair was silent.

Felix took her back to the Miller estate and had the housekeeper watch her closely.

But he never cback himself, probably retreating to Listina's place.

Every tListina heard Felix was with Carol, she'd fly off the handle, cursing like a sailor.

Life becan endless, torturous cycle.

Carol's foggy brain finally cleared, grasping the full extent of her predicament.

Confined to the estate for a month, she still couldn't bring herself to grovel in front of him.

As the wedding date loomed closer, the pressure mounted.

Pinned in the car seat, Carol bit her lip hard.

Without the wedding, and thus without Felix's pardon, Abner would remain behind bars. As his ungrateful daughter, she had to do

something.

The car jostled around, and Carol, nauseated at the sight of Felix, turned her head away.

Her phone rang—it was Maja.

lan had returned, and with Maja pregnant and in good spirits, she couldn't hide her concern.

"Carol, you hyet?" Maja's voice was soft and comforting.

Carol shoved Felix away, startled.

"lam."

Maja snuggled closer to lan, careful not to tease him too much in her condition, resting against his chest.

After tonight's gathering, as everyone trickled out, Maja's thoughts lingered on Carol.

"If you need help, just tell me, okay?"

Carol glanced at Felix, who was leisurely fixing his clothes, and forced a smile.

"No need, Maja. I'm just tired, need ssleep."

"Alright, rest up," Maja ended the call and yawned, with lan handing her a slice of apple on cue.

She chewed thoughtfully before caressing his arm.

"How are you feeling? Still in pain?" The poison from Queena Temple weighed on him, but lan was tough.

He didn't want to worry Maja anymore or cause any more trouble.

"I'm fine, not hurting."

"l already told Beck, Queena's locked up. She can't hurt us unless she sprouts wings."

lan pinched her earlobe gently, "Beck is indeed a piece of work."

Lucky for Beck he wasn't there, or he'd have a fit.
