Carol clutched her cardigan with shaking hands, her heart pounding in the aftermath of the bloody spectacle that unfolded before

her.

Felix, her boyfriend, had been brutal and swift, knocking the assailant unconscious with a few well-placed punches before turning

his attention to her.

Her face was a mask of shock and fear, but that shifted quickly to alarm as she saw Felix sprint towards her.

"Watch out!"

She barely managed to utter those words when he shielded her in his embrace, taking the fall as a rock meant for Carol's head

struck his own.

Pain flashed across Felix's face as he frowned and kicked away the man who had thrown the rock.

The man lay on the ground, howling in pain, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"Felix, do you even realize what you're doing? Why are you protecting her?"

Carol, seeing Felix move to confront the man again, panicked and pulled him back.

"Stop, Felix, please. I'm okay, really. Let's not make this any worse."

She had seen Felix in fights before, where he always seemed in control, but tonight he seemed desperate.

The man tried to speak again but was silenced as Felix's cold boot connected with his chin, dislocating his jaw with a sickening

crack.

Felix's eyes were dark with anger, blood trickling from a wound on his head.

Carol felt a wave of distress wash over her; she was the reason he was hurt.

Trembling and scared, she quickly turned to the taxi driver who was still in a daze nearby.

"Call an ambulance, now!"

Once the driver snapped out of his shock, he reluctantly drove them to the hospital.

Felix was unconscious, and Carol wasted no tcontacting Abner's assistant, asking him to handle the situation quietly, without

letting Abner find out.

The last thing she needed was for Abner to berate her for getting into trouble so late at night.

The assistant sighed on the other end of the phone.

"Alright, Miss Carol, I'll deal with it. I'll make sure they're out of the country and never cback."

Carol breathed a sigh of relief, holding Felix close and shedding tears of worry as they arrived at the hospital.

The doctors immediately started treating Felix's wounds.

He lay with his eyes closed, resting in her arms, his blood staining her clothes. She felt a bittersweet mixture of gratitude for his

protection and the sour pang of fear.

Half an hour later, Felix stirred awake.

He tried to touch the bandage wrapped around his head but Carol caught his hand.

"Don't. You just got stitches."

Felix dropped his hand and pulled her into an embrace. "Carol, are you okay? You must be terrified."

Her tears flowed freely as she clung to his waist.

She was indeed frightened, especially since they had run into those thugs again.

"How did they find your place?"

"After the last fight, there's been bad blood. They've been lurking near my place waiting for me."

Carol gritted her teeth, wishing she could just get rid of those men for good.

Felix looked at her, and suddenly cupped her face, planting a light kiss on her lips.

"Let's break up."

The words made Carol's heart lurch. He had just been hurt because of her, and now he was talking about breaking up.

"I've just beaten three men pretty badly. The court won't see it as self-defense. I might have to do stime."

He didn't want to drag her into his mess.

Carol was even more touched, and she hugged him tighter.

"It's okay. Don't you remember I have that wealthy aunt? I'll plead with her. She can fix this. After all, if I get hauled off by the cops,

it's their reputation on the line too. They don't want to lose face in front of high society."

Holding him close, Carol didn't notice the look in Felix's eyes.

His gaze was distant, and his expression was detached, as he absent-mindedly patted her back.

"Felix, don't break up with me. You got hurt for me, and that means so much. I really like you. I mean it. I might have been flippant

before, but I'm serious now."

As she spoke, she gripped his hand tightly, regretting her earlier carelessness, especially when she saw the bandage on his head.

The thug had thrown the rock without mercy, and just a bit off could have left Felix brain damaged.

Without a second thought, Felix had protected her, and she knew that such instinctive actions didn't lie. Her eyes grew hot with

emotion as she buried her face deeper in his embrace.

Felix's hand gently patted her back, seemingly comforting her but in reality, he was lost in thought.

The hospital they were in was the sone where Lisbeth was being treated.

How was Lisbeth doing now?

He had planned to go back and prepare sfood for her, but then Carol's trouble had occurred.

His eyes lowered to the sight of Carol's hair.

She kept repeating three words, "I like you."

His lips twitched coldly, but he said nothing.

Carol stood up from his embrace, her eyes still red.

"My relative will handle this. At worst, I'll get a scolding. Don't worry about it."

Felix looked at her softly. "But I can't bear it, Carol. Maybe we should break up."

"No breaking up!"

She was adamant as she said it, "I won't break up with you. The doctor said you need to be hospitalized for a few days. Remember

the $2,000 you gave me? It's tto use it. I haven't touched it. I'll go pay your hospital bills. Besides, dawn is breaking, and you

haven't eaten. I'll go make spasta."

With that, she left the room, scared that Felix might insist on breaking up.

No sooner had she left than Felix, despite his injuries, made his way up to Lisbeth's floor.
