Irene’s POV

Noah said nothing as he placed me in his passenger seat and entered the car. But I could tell from 

way he slammed the door that he was pissed. However, it was hard to tell who he was pissed at. 

“Noah..” I started but stopped as I realised I had no idea what to say. 

“What made you think you could fight off three Lycans, Irene?” His voice is contained with a slight edge to it that makes me look at him. 

“The three of them are in their third years. More importantly, they are all children of council members and get away with things.” 

My jaw clenches.

“And it’s my fault that you and your brother can’t get a grip on your subjects?” 

“Allowing them to take a young girl to some corner and molest her?” 

Noah’s gaze that was on mine softened, and he looked away. 

“That’s not what I meant,” he whispered after some seconds. 

“I… anything could have happened to you. What if I hadn’t finished training earlier? Or we hadn’t passed by?” 

My shoulders sagged as I realised he was much more worried than pissed. 

“I had to do something. There’s no way I would walk away from that.” 

Noah nodded and then started the car. 

My brows raised, “where are we going?” 

“Your dress is ruined. There are some stores nearby. We can get you a new outfit before the second period starts.” 

“Oh.” 

I looked down at the dress Julia had picked up this morning. From my fight with those jerks, it now had stains and signs of being pulled beyond the limit. 

“They have been acting out of line for a while now; I guess Alek would have a proper reason to scold their fathers once he hears about this,” Noah adds, and I felt my heart drop in my chest. 

“You plan on telling him about this?” I asked, my heart thumping as I tried to imagine Alek’s reaction when he found out that I had gotten into a fight on my first day.

“Well,” Noah started with a cheeky grin that made me want to smack him. 

“If I’m honest, I’ll say my brother already knows by now.” 

“Don’t turn on me,” he adds hurriedly as he sees the horrified expression on my face. 

“My brother has people working for him everywhere in the Empire. Something of that scale can’t happen without him knowing already.” he explained. 

It made sense that Alek had complete control of the empire and everything that happened. However, I didn’t know why, but I just had this deep urge not to embarrass myself in front of him. 

He seemed like a person who liked to keep things clean, and there was no way he would be okay with me causing trouble. 

Even if it was for a good cause. 

“He doesn’t matter what he thinks. Now that we are mates, you don’t have to worry about my brothers any more,” Noah consoled, and I nodded. 

Something about Liv being locked away made me not remember the mate bond. 

Curious, I asked him. “Do you still feel it?” 

Noah turned, allowing me to see his arched brows as he made a left turn.

“My wolf is locked away now, so I can’t feel anything. I wanted to know if you could.” 

Noah chuckled. The melodious sound was beautiful, even though I didn’t think I said anything funny. 

“I can’t feel the tug too. But my wolf knows you are meant for him, so there’s this longing like it’s trying to fish out your wolf,” he explained. 

I nodded and then looked outside the window. 

The Lycan Empire was truly beautiful, and I wondered how humans would react if they knew a world like this was being kept here.

“We are here, Noah said as he got down and raced to the other side of the car.

I sent him a small smile as he opened my door for me. A gesture I had never gotten from anymore. 

It’s not like I even had the luxury of entering cars before now. 

As we walked into the building, I was startled by the blatant display of luxury. 

Luxury that was more than anything I had ever seen in my entire life. 

“Some of them are top human brands that we import, while others are also brands that we produce 

here.” 

“Let’s go to the third floor. We will come back some other time.” 

I nodded and then took another look at all of the outfits that were on display. 

Fashion and my looks were things I had never really cared about. Even now, I was more impressed by the way everything looked so high–class than thinking about how they would look on me. 

The third floor was much more toned down in appearance, and the first room had a receptionist. sitting there. 

She jumped as soon as she saw Noah. 

“Your Highness,” she greeted him with a slight bow before turning to me and giving me a small bow. 

“Show her around. She would pick anything she’s okay with,” Noah said, then nudged his head in her direction. 

I followed the receptionist, who gave me a card as we entered another room. 

“You can walk around, swipe this card on any door if you have a problem,” she explained and then left. 

“Wait,” one look at everything here, and I could already tell that I didn’t want them. 

“Do you have jeans and tops? I would prefer that.” 

She looks at me for a second longer than normal before nodding her head. 

“Come with me.” 

After picking a pair of jeans that made me fall in love at first sight and a random top, I changed and went out back to meet Noah. 

“You are okay with this?” He asked, his eyes raking all over my b*dy to take in my outfit. 

“Yes, I feel a lot more comfortable in this than dresses.”

Noah nodded, but I could tell that he still had some reservations about my choice of clothes. 

However, it was enough that he allowed me to wear them. 

By the time we got back to school, I was certain that the second period was long gone. 

However, instead of walking me to class or helping me find my way, Noah gave me a wave and dashed off. 

Was he ashamed of being seen with me?
