COLD SUNRISE
Chapter 10: keeper

“Hey, Raven! raven!” Nathan called weakly, high pitched sound ringing his eardrum, his body inclined upside down due to the vehicle’s position. He felt the sharp cut on his forehead while turning to look at her, Raven was silent still, her eyes shut, she was out cold, and her hair roughly laid on glass pieces. he managed using his fingertip to graze her face which had a cut on the top of her brow, it began fading into her skin till nothing leaving only a little blood stain, She opened her eyes peering around with an uneasy breath.

“Hey, look at me, it’s okay, it’s okay, everything will be fine, I’ll try to get us out of here, “Nathan assured her, she nodded once she realized he was still beside her.

“Your head is bleeding bad,” Raven whispered.

“I know, but I’ll be okay, its just my leg though,” he groaned slightly trying to put his hands at the side of the seat, forcefully unhooking his seat belt, his abdomen slanted on the dashboard, an aching cramp his right knee and tendon before they heard tires squealing outside in front of them and door slamming sounds.

“Is he dead?” Chris asked.

“No, he’s as stubborn as a cockroach, go help raven at the other side, I’ll pull him out from this one.”

Nathan sighed in relief when Adam’s voice suggested a rescue, he looked out the shattered door glass on his side till he saw Adam shoe, both doors made rough creasing sounds as they got ripped out from both sides by Adam and Chris.

Fresh air rushed in, Nathan crawled his way out trying to stand on his feet using his battered car as support, the light drizzling of rain on his skin as he looked at the rolled over Pontiac, its roof compressed, smoke oozed out of the engine, a growl came from the road behind that drew their attention followed by thunderclaps.

A tall Man carrying a rusty double-edged axe hung on his shoulder Marched towards them, almost seven foot tall, Brawny, not a single hair on head or face, his eyes blazing red revealing it’s darkness within and a deep scar that seemed to split his face in half, it wasn’t human some kind of creature.

Gauntlets on both arms, dark pants, his chest exposed revealing burns, stitches and cut marks.

“Raven, you and Nathan need to leave right now,” Chris said pulling out the glove from his right arm, his hostile gaze fixed on the approaching giant.

“I think the mountain is close enough, we can jump from here,” she replied wearily pulling out a shard of glass from her arm.

“No, save your energy, it’s finite unlike ours, you might be needing it in a more crucial situation, take the car. Chris and I will stall him,” Adam tossed the key over to her,

“You two be careful I want you both back in one piece,”

“Don’t worry Sis, this guy, he’s practice,” Chris smirked rolling up his jacket sleeve, his hands lit up flaming like a blow torch, he swiftly launched himself at the huge male figure, his hands firmly clutched on its throat making hot burning noises as skin melted on his palm, both Males gritting their teeth snarling at each other.

The creature grabbed back, his large fingers wrapped around Chris’s neck, effortlessly lifting him while his hold severed leaving a fresh deep scald to the neck, Chris got carelessly tossed away, they watch as the burns on the man’s throat cover itself, he returned his attention to them.

“you two go now,” Adam hollered.

Nathan hurriedly limped towards the Mercedes, they rushed in and Drove away.

Adam picked up a rock from the dirt

Walking gracefully, he stood on the asphalt fronting the brawny man that sauntered towards him, his eye’s shut when the gentle wind blew past, and Adam stretched forth his Arm, his hands opening in a release as the rock floated. Reopening his eyes once more, his palms quaking, the rock resonated splitting into several pieces.

The Man charged in swapping his ax to his right hand with his pace quickening to a run, Adam let him get halfway close before the rocks darted their way into his broad chest like bullets, bursting out his back.

It didn’t stop him, he Kept running forward like a zombie, the red holes on his body sealing up as swung directly at Adam’s face, the wind pushed by axe blew past his face when he evaded with a quick step back, but it wasn’t enough he got shoved backwards by the creatures foot losing his balance, it swiftly caught up raising for another strike before he could get on his feet, a wildfire engulfed the huge male figure from behind blasting it meters away.

It writhed in agony, it’s body up in flames, Chris moves to his brother’s side, he’s full arms burning hot, his jacket sleeve ruined, the smell of burnt flesh poised the Area, when the flames on the creature dulled revealing only charred skin.

It stood up weakly, briefly peering at the rusted metal that slipped out of its hands when it fell. It slid back to its palm like a magnet, the charred skin flaking off unveiling a fresh one as it staggered approaching.

" So what’s the plan here brother, cause it appears whatever attacks rendered on it is probably useless if it keeps regenerating like that, do we go for limbs then.”

“Even if we do that, he might probably end up growing a new one,” Adam replied.

“We keep it distracted for a while, when we get an opening we go for his sight then it’s head afterward, the rest will shut down.”

“You make it sound easy, you know he won’t just leave himself open for what’s to come,”

“I know, but we’ll get our chance eventually,“Adam said.

We were quiet while she drove, the cut on my head still itched, my sticky red beginning to dry on face, I don’t want to start talking my leg, I’m just grateful I survived that.More importantly, I’m glad I am miles away from Frank and Judy dragging my disaster along with me, their safety mattered a lot.

I felt sentimental about my car that got wrecked, the first perfect gift I had ever received from Frank or anyone in a long time, we’ve gotten through thick and thin these few months, its proved itself, when all of this is over and I make it alive I’ll tow her to franks shop, I don’t care how much it cost I’ll rebuild it to its former glory.

The twins are back there fighting that thing, they’ve saved my life today though I’m sure it’s for Raven sake, who knows maybe left to them they would have left me back there to rot because they think I’m dead weight. I don’t disagree either, I kind of understand their thinking. they also played cool back there, willing to sacrifice themselves so raven and I to keep going, that scary thing earlier, could pretty much outrun a speeding car and was the cause of our crash, it’s fast, strong and can heal itself instantaneously , it flung Chris like a rag doll how does anyone match that,

I just hope whatever unknown and usual powers the boy’s posses will be enough to take that thing down.

I got severed from my thoughts when my phone buzzed, it was Frank, he must have heard about what happened in school, I cleared my throat to sound comfortable.

“Hey, Frank.”

“Nathan, are you alright? I heard about what happened in school, the bird thing and all,” he said.

“Yeah, I’m fine, no problem.”

“I mean the thing is all over the news, reporters and journalist’s crawling all over your school, where you attacked, did They hurt you.”

“It’s Just a bunch of birds that went nuts frank, I’m fine,” I replied simply.

“besides I don’t see the big deal, maybe they were just trying to migrate or something,” I wanted him not to worry knowing there was more to it than that. It was hailed by something ominous either the watchers or the council’s squad as raven said.

“Well that’s the same thing the TV people are insinuating but the unexplained part is the fact they’re all dead and scattered in the premises, are you in school right now,” he asked.

“Uhmmm, no I’m not, I just left a few minutes ago, there’s something I had to take care of first before coming home,”

“Alright, drive safely and try coming home, early kid,”

“Sure,” the call dropped.

“you’re a creative liar and a Good one coming up with the whole migration thing,” Raven complimented.

“Yeah, like that’s the real reason,” I murmured.

“Crows are harbingers of death, what they did back in school was a sign of temporary upset in the balance of nature when certain supernatural’s with Dark energy are assembled in one community,”

“you mean the death squad after us,“I assumed.

“Yes, and Lock is also a part of it.”

“I thought lock was part of us the good guys,”

“There’re no good Guy’s or bad guys in this Nathan, we’re just a group of people trying to survive. Lock is with us but his energy has been darkened a long time by the things he’s done in the past,”

“It’s marked on him for eternity although he may no longer be what he was back then.” Raven answered

“That Guy’s got serious issues, he seems to be the center of everything,”

“don’t worry We’ll make out this Nate,” she said positively.

“I hope so,” I wanted to believe it.

We entered a side road that seemed more like a mountain path in the woods , the end of the road closed by a withered log.

“This is it, we’re here.” She pulled over turning off the engine,

“I thought your Dad and Lock are supposed to meet us here,” I asked surveying the area, we were alone.

“They’re here, they’ve been waiting for us,” she answered shutting the door,

“Where are your brothers Raven? ”

Michael and lock were suddenly standing behind us, they came out of nowhere.

“We got a little sidelined Dad, we were attacked on our here, Adam and Chris they chose to stall the thing following us, so we could make it,” Raven replied.

Michael had a coat on, with dark gloves.

Holding a staff in on his right hand, his dark shades shielding eyes as walked perfectly on his own.

“I told them to ensure Raven and Nathan get a safe passage like you said and they did, there’s no need to worry Michael, those two together are unbeatable.”

“I’m not.”

The blond twins ceaselessly attacking the creature with no prevail, they keep getting themselves slammed and repelled half the time without getting a striking chance, an advantage creature used to counter was with its maneuvering speed, the injuries it sustained rapidly healing.

“This isn’t working Adam, we can’t even get close enough, everything about him is fast,” Chris groused panting after being slammed against the rolled over Pontiac.

“He’s adapting to our attacks, healing much quicker than before I know, but he we have to keep at it till he gets sloppy and we see an opening, “Adam said picking up one the damaged car Doors, dispatching himself towards the creature, he shuffled against all swings, the creature made a lethal last which he eluded slipping sideways while huge rusted metal made a crack on the asphalt and clamped, Adam seized the second when creature was left trying to pull, he ferociously clobbered it with the hard part of the door repeatedly, leaping with both hands clutched firmly at the edge to make a heavy blow, The Axe left the ground faster.

The Cold dull side of the medieval iron against Adams jaw as it thrusts him away.

" Ouch! That must have hurt, see! I told you!” Chris stared at his brother who laid exhaustedly on the wet road with a slanted jaw. Adam took a deep breath setting it straight, while Chris went back to tussle with the creature. He sat up in frustration, slightly bowing his head in thought, rage boiling up inside, he got on his feet spitting out a bloody tooth with a twisted john Wayne smile.

The ground began to tremble, the vibration tensed as particles of sands rose to the atmosphere , strong wind blowing from the south slanting forest tree’s at both sides,

The glasses from the Pontiac shattered completely into sizeable fragments floating on air gathering themselves around of Adam in protection,

Chris retreated back to his brother’s side when he noticed the change in the atmosphere.

“What’re you doing?”

“This has gone on long enough, I’m ending this, wait for my cue we’re going to take him out right now,” he said firmly.

“I think I like the sound of that,” Chris smirked walking behind taking up the second car door, the soft leather inside caught fire as the metal heated, the creature growled infuriatingly in defense firmly gripping its axe knowing what to next expect.

The Shards and particulates deployed themselves at it at the same time, the creature quickly countered using the axe to repel them, for every hit he made only to split the fragments into smaller pieces as they returned more aggressively like they had minds of their own, it vainly kept at it for seconds before they broke through making cuts back and forth, it realized he’d been circled, they came at him once again dancing their way while constantly drawing blood.

Adam with a self-satisfied smile, while the creatures groans cast on the Area, tiny shards distanced themselves from the rest before plunging into its eyes.

“Now! Chris,” Adam urged.

“Peace brother!” Chris chuckled raising his two left fingers in humor, then hurling the red heated metal straight through the creatures neck,

The headless body kneels and slumps on the asphalt.

“Ha! That went quite well,” Chris chortles.

“Burn the body, I’m going to find Dad, you find raven we’ll meet you at the cabin.” Adam said walking away.

“Find him where? for all we know he’s with Lock and they can both handle themselves perfectly, we just killed an Emim or whatever the hell that thing was, we need to calm down, catch our breath and think.”

Adam ignoring he’s response propelled himself into the air.

“Hey! you’re an asshole you know that,” Chris yelled after him.

“The minute before all of this started happening I saw something back at school, I saw them watching us,” ravens cold fingertips on my cheek, the cramp I felt on my leg was gone, the cut on forehead gave a chilly soothing sensation.

“Who?“Lock asked.

“The Watchers, they’re here.”

“That’s why you were staring out the window strangely in class, “raven to confirm her curiosity, I nodded.

" for seventeen years I haven’t had any visions of them, It appears the boy seems to be the only one they’ve revealed their presence to and for a reason of course,” Michael said to lock

“And if he’s right, it means whatever outcome this brings forth will have an important part to play in a much bigger role, they’ve already set things in motion, they’re just here to watch.” Lock replied, suddenly both of them darted their gazes to the path behind we drove from like they sensed something.

“Do you feel that?”

“Yes, looks like our visitors have finally caught up, took them long enough.” Michael answered.

“Raven go to the cabin from here, your jump will create a gap making it harder for both your energies to be tracked, go now!” Michael ordered. She took my hand nodding to the both of them meaning good luck, the hair on my skin stood upright like being exposed to an electric charge.

An outline of two figures appeared distant from the open path marching forward when raven and Nathan had vanished leaving deep footprints.

“There’s meant to be a third, a woman amongst them,” Michael said.

“What changed?”

“She diverted from them the second raven and the boy left, I think they sensed the jump and she’s trying to find them.”

“Do you think she can?”

“Probably, the cabin is only a few miles away, she’s a shifter. it’s only a matter of time., we have to finish this quickly and get to her before my daughter is trapped in a situation of facing off with her, that’s something none of us would want.”

“You’re worried a duel a could trigger her awakening, give her some credit Michael we both know raven’s tougher than that.”

“I know she is, but it’s different this time, she’s protecting the boy and not just herself, she cares for him. If something were to happen to him in the process and she gets emotionally unstable we’ll be having a much bigger problem on our hands.”

" Tell me Michael, why did you choose to help Nathan bale? I’m sure it’s definitely not out of the goodness of your heart. ”

" it’s not, the boy is important, think of him as a small exceptional piece in a very large puzzle, plus I owe his father one.”

Their eye’s fixed on the approaching men, a priest on a cassock, Next to a man in all leather with a beard and braided hair, his waist wrapped around by a belt containing two twin sheathed daggers.

“Ah!my good friends it’s a pleasure finally meeting you, I’m sure you’ve had a long trip and you must weary of all this running and scheming, Welcome to Franklinton, I’m Lock and this is my partner Michael,”

Lock formally introduced in a mocking gesture.

“There’s no need for the pleasantries Lock, We’ve met before in Prague 1609 when Rabbi Loew Bezalel passed away, don’t you remember our encounter,”

“Or perhaps this youthful form you’ve taken has somewhat impaired your Memory.” The priest replied sarcastically.

“Oh yes I remember now, you look vaguely familiar, you were that young kid who led a merry band of thieves calling yourselves Mercenaries, you and your motley crew snuck yourselves into the synagogue’s attic and stole the famous golem after dismembering its body,”

“You have to admit it was poor luck we were both in Prague for the same reason, but I recalled eradicating you and your crew with a plague, not one of my finest moments I agree, but I have to admit I’m quite shocked to see you here, a little bit less than alive, amongst mother nature’s imbalance as an immortal,” lock said in delight.

“My body Adapted to the disease forming an immunity, that was when I realized I was different but my brother and the rest of my village weren’t t so lucky,”

“I see, I am your Maker then, so are you here to thank me for the gift I bestowed on you because that’s something most Mortals are willing to kill themselves for, transcendence.”

“I worked my way up in the world till I found God and the council found me, I proved my worth to them in also being part the church and for all those lives lost I swore as long as I drew breath I will rid this earth of you,”

“You’re here for revenge then, how disappointing,” he muttered with a grimace, the atmosphere around tensed as they stood meters apart.

“Vengeance is of the lord, but sometimes the lord needs assistance that I have realized, I dedicated my services to the church and the council graced me with an opportunity to do his work indefinitely, I read and I have heard the accounts of the demonic abilities you possess, how you have ravaged, destroyed, villages, kingdoms and cities over millennia’s, ”

“You were compared to the devil that walks amongst men, after this day you will be no more,”

“I think you give me way too much credit, “lock laughed.

“You know it’s ironic, why creations always seek to get rid their Makers, like some kind of flaw in a perfect design, the golem of Prague, Victor Frankenstein and his monster, Jehovah, and Lucifer, sometimes son’s and father’s, Now you. at times when you sit and wonder about it you might just find it kind of amusing .”

We strolled up to sloppy path crowded with green, in front an old looking house circled by pine trees,

" so this cabin what’s it to you guys anyway, some kind of safe house,”

“If that’s what you want call it yeah, its foundation is built on a sacred ground repellent to all creatures with dark energy,” Raven answered leading the way, she reaching for the knob.

“Meaning those people after us won’t be able to get in.”

“That’s the idea, I have only been here twice, that was years ago, Michael said the property once belonged to a native shaman, he died in the thirties, Michael purchased the land from his son’s ,”

It made a rusty creaking noise when it opened, it was dim, the building was empty, no electricity aside the dusty floor, not a single furniture anywhere as we surveyed,

" how did your Dad figure out what the building could do, was it the shamans sons that told him,”

" No, Lock discovered that it himself, he couldn’t enter, he’s seen a lot over the years and knows things. ”

“Hmmm, really fascinating stuff I would have preferred learning under a more pleasant Circumstance, a cold bottle of beer and cheeseburgers or pizza.” The ceilings were designed with cobweb, no one been here awhile.

“What’re we supposed to do here then, just wait?” I asked.

“Yeah, we wait, when everything is settled Michael will come get us. The reason we’re in this cabin is to keep you safe.”

“Unbelievable,” I shook my head, laughing.

It’s Funny how all of a sudden I had turned into a princess that needed protecting, I’m not feeling very manly right now.

“What’s funny?” She asked.

“No, nothing really,“I chuckled, I mean what am I going to do if one those terrifying people after us were to just show up right now and this house wouldn’t be able keep them out, what then, will I run and hide behind raven like I scared little girl.

“Spill it, I want to know what’s going on in that head of yours,” she urged softly when we walked into the kitchen.

“Like I said it’s nothing, I think I’m allowed to have private thoughts of my own,” she stood to my face curiously staring in my eyes, gosh! her Angel face, at the time all I could think of, was kissing her again, but i wasn’t sure doing that would end very well. i just walked out of a car crash, my wounds maybe be healed but I still feel Kind of sore in other part of my body the last thing I don’t want feel now is another pain, I felt her fist on my nose on Saturday, she hits really hard, the pain was intense, who knows maybe if she slugs my face again she might just knock out a teeth, sorry i can’t take that chance.

She presses her boot against my toes to be persuasive.

“Ouch!”

“I’m waiting to hear it don’t make force it out of you,” she mutters humorously.

“see! that’s the thing with you , whenever you’re not getting what you want you go straight to threatening, you’re kind of a bully you know that”I mocked.

“In fact all of you, I can’t recall meeting any single one of your family members that hasn’t threatened or terrified me why? Is it a default setting for Nephilims or something else,”

“You’re still going to tell me or I’m going to torture you and I’m not kidding,” she smiled crookedly.

“Fine! Jeez, I was laughing because I just realized if our lives were a story you’ll be the White Knight and I’m the damsel, it’s kind of embarrassing to admit.”

She laughed . “You’re very egotistical you know right, my family is out there fighting for their lives and for you and you’re here examining the roles were playing,”

“Let me guess, in this little fantasy of yours you’d prefer we trade places and you’d be the hero right?” She scoffed.

“well,” I rolled my eyes.

“That’s why I didn’t want to tell you, I knew you’d have one unusual way of looking at it and making me feel bad and cowardly.”

“News flash Nate, this situation were in is naturally way above your league, there’s no scenario were you, a human gets to be the one coming out on top so stop dreaming,”

“And also there’s nothing cowardly in wanting to survive, you’re not a coward Nate i know you, if there’s anything I can say, I’ll say I’m impressed on how you’ve managed to keep your shit together after everything that has been happening to you since the day we crossed paths, most people would have either been scared shitless of us, ran out town or worse gotten themselves locked up in a mental asylum, you might be a lot of things, Nathan but cowardly your not.” She stated surely.

“I’m confused right now, seconds ago you made me seem very little and now you’re kind of praising me, which do I take?” Raven turned searching the cabinets, there were all empty, the last one had an old machete raven took it.

We sat beside each other at the passage floor, she was quiet, her face expressed worry as she carefully kept twisting the machete tip on the floor, I understood her, everyone she cares about is out there for us, she’s got everything to lose if anything happens.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine, “she nodded

“I know you’re worried about them,” I said.

“Of course I am, I have to be, mostly whenever it comes to my brothers,” she replied gloomily.

“I have seen firsthand what those two are capable of I’m sure they can handle themselves,“I wanted to assure her.

“I know, it just that we do almost everything together, I’m not used to being apart from them especially in troubled situations,”

“You’ve been in a situation like this before? ”

“Trouble comes knocking for everyone once in a while, we’ve gotten used it, but there hasn’t been any this intense,” she said.

“I was nine when Chris, Adam and I were kidnapped, they’re just a year older than me, back then Mom and Michael were having issues about their marriage, so we moved with her to California, Mom owned an art gallery, she was on a business trip when we got attacked in our mansion at night by an old cult of stregonerian practitioners, they killed the maid and butler carving a Pentagram on their foreheads, mom came home to find a crime scene.”

" sounds horrible, Do you know why you guys were abducted?” I muttered gently.

“Yeah, Witchcraft, black magic, occult purposes what else,”

“Was the council somehow involved too,”

“No, they would never be party to such things, it’s beneath them, the people responsible had agendas of their own, for necromancy from what I understood.”

“They were going to channel our energies to resurrect a coven of dead witches, they knew what we were, energies from the untainted bloodline of the Nephilim can accomplish wonders,” She explained.

“Even after death if they had succeeded, they would have carved the bones from our corpses selling for a fortune on the black-market or saving it for themselves as talismans,”

“How did you guys make it out, what happened?”

“I don’t know,”

“All I remember Is being disoriented and halfway unconscious the entire time, but I do know I was laid between my brothers with dark candles circled around us while voices kept chanting something in some old unknown language, it wasn’t Latin.

I felt the energy Within me slipping away, the last thing I heard was Chris and Adam screaming at the same time,”

“Your Dad and Lock didn’t they know ?”

“The first time I met lock was when I regained consciousness, his face had the warmest smile although it wasn’t really his,” she smiled remembering.

“He looked different then, he was wearing someone older, I felt connected to him in an instant even when I saw darkness in his eyes, and I knew I could trust him, he was family somehow. ”

“everywhere was quiet, the people in the room were gone, my brothers who were usually hostile towards strangers felt the same connection to him.”

“When Lock scooped me into his arms and I looked around All I saw was death, the people in the room never left, they were burned to ash, their remains scattered across the room, the bodies outside appeared more horrifying, they were so badly burnt with their clothes melted on their skin, the ones that weren’t burnt had exploded inside out, blood and brain matter on the wall, we walked out of an abandoned warehouse in Vienna, Dad was already waiting outside. They brought us back home before the police could find anything about who took us,” she narrated.

“For years i always thought lock did that to all those people, till one day i overhead him speaking with Michael what About happened that day, the horrors that were unleashed wasn’t by his hands but by my brothers, the people that took us whatever they tried doing went wrong only too mess with their energy and triggered their awakening instantly,”

“Whoa, but i won’t say I’m surprised either, those two do give me the creeps,” I jeered.

“It’s not their fault it’s just the way they are and how the world made them to be,”

“Those people in the woods that night, the dead body on fire that was Chris wasn’t it?” I asked i knew it was him i just needed to be sure.

“Yes, there’s been others too, he tends to get jumpy when it comes to witches,” i gulped at her answer, i recalled the conversation between Chris and i about raven in school, he might really make good on that promise if i don’t stay away from his sister when all of this is over.

“He wasn’t always like that you know, i mean he’s always been chatty and arrogant for as long as i can remember but not a killer, ever since Mom died it’s been as if something broke inside of him although he’ll never admit it, in fact, it’s been like that in all of us,”

" i sort of envy you, you know?” She suddenly said.

“That’s funny, what could i possibly posses that you envy,” i chuckled.

“You still have both your parents,”

“Are you kidding me, did you forget my dad has been in a coma for like forever, i have my Mom, yes, but my Dad not so much,”

" i might just say I’ll trade places with you if was possible, I’ll prefer having a half dead mom whom i can just talk to even if she can’t say anything back, than having no mom at all.”

" i have to admit, that the most twisted thing anyone has ever said to me,” we both laughed.

“Have you gone to see him, your Dad?”

“No,” that’s when it hit me i haven’t given it much thought,

“After all of this, i think you should make out time to.”

its something i should have done a long time. Frank had suggested once but i never really considered it, now i don’t know how today might end and if it goes south for me that would mean i never got to see my father not even once.

“Hey, do you have plans for this weekend’s,” i asked, trying to put in a new thought in my mind when an idea came up.

" not at the moment, but i brothers and i we plan going to uncle Dylan place in New Orleans ,”

“Who’s this uncle Dylan?”

“My Dad’s younger brother, my cousins are hosting a rave on Saturday night,”

“Hmmm, sound’s fun.” I grimaced She wouldn’t want to stay, i mean it’s a fun party who wouldn’t want to go.

“Why were you asking? ”

“Uhmmm, my grandparents plan on going on a trip out of town on Friday for the weekend, i wanted us to spend some time together but since you’ve got plans already i...”

“I’ll come over to your place?” She surprisingly said.

“Really?”

“Yeah, it’s on Saturday so there’s still time,”

“So what will we be doing then, “she asked.

" there’s a new Avengers coming out this week, we could go to the movie’s or we stay home and rent some, I’ll buy a bucket of ice cream and order pizza plus anything else you want,”

" i think the latter sounds better,” she answered softly.

“Home it is then,” I nodded.

“What’s your favorite genre in movies,”

“All of them, sci-fi, horror, romance. Whichever is good at the moment,” she replied.

“Hmmm, Romance, i never saw that one coming,”

“What?”

" i mean half the time, you always act so stern and scary, i never pegged for the romantic type,” i said humorously.

“Well, i never pegged you for being judgmental either,”

“When your renting add The notebook to the pile, i love that film. ”

" finally! Something you have in common with every girl in America,”

My pocket buzzed interrupting, it was my phone,

“Who’s calling?”she asked.

" it’s your Number, ” i replied perplexedly showing her, she checked herself

“I’m not with my phone here, i think i left it in your car after we crashed,”

“It might be your brothers, I’ll answer it.”

“Wait! Don’t, we’re not sure who might be one other end, if its the people after us, someone with very keen hearing could intercept your voice and track us with it.” The buzzed for a few times then stopped, second later it started again.

“I think we should take it,” i suggested firmly.

“Alright do it, but don’t say anything till the person speaks first.”

“I know,” I put on speaker, there was silence. Everything tensed, the caller didn’t speak for almost ten seconds.

“Hey, it’s Chris.” The voice said, we sighed deeply in relief.

“Jesus! Chris you scared us for a second there, are you okay?” Raven anxiously said.

“Yeah, I’m alright. I found your phone in Nathan’s car, i didn’t have his number, so..“He replied.

“What of Adam, is he there with you?”

“No, but he’s fine, he took off to find Dad after we took care of the big guy. Are you guys at the cabin now?”

“Yes, just Nate and i, i think Lock and Dad are a bit occupied right now,”

“Don’t worry the stupid squad is one man short already we’ve got better odds now, look, i want you and Romeo to stay put, I’m heading straight to you guys i just finished torching a body, try to keep yourselves alive till i get there. I’m on foot i won’t make it in a flash but I’ll make it, be careful.”

“You too,” she said back, he hanged up.

“Look like everything went well on his end,” i added.

" seems so, i hope it remains that way for all of us,” she said with a relieved expression on her face.

Raven abruptly stood up uneasily , the look on her face faded, something’s wrong, she felt something, her posture tensed, her eyes hostile as she looked out the window,

“What’s wrong? ”

“Something is Coming Nate,” she said Alarmingly backing away from the door, the building began to quake, a wild high pitched white noise transmitted from outside straight to my eardrum, i clasp my hand covering my ear when the windows around the cabin began to shatter, the frequency of the sound acted externally on them.

Raven still stood firmly staring out the window, she wasn’t affected by the sound. It took half a minute before the noise dulled completely, the ringing in my left ear as raven was saying something to me i couldn’t clearly make out, blood on my palms, my left ear bled.

My eyes peered outside, through the shattered window, out of the forest trees came out bats lots of them, they Darted towards the cabin circling around like fleas.

“She’s here,” raven stated.

“The lady from before,” she nodded. i remembered how terrifying her eyes were, how she easily flipped that cop car, there’s no running from this one, this is it.
