Chapter 8

Blaise Malakai Vermont:

The moment she got off the table, I knew I had gone too far. But what else was I supposed to do?

“Blaise, what is wrong with you?” Laleh’s voice cut through my thoughts and I raised my eyes to her using my anger to veil my shame.

“It’s the only way Laleh, I growled, pushing myself off the chair.

“What do you mean by it is the only way?” She came after me and my wolf felt the same amount of irritation that she did.

“Talk to me, Blaise Vermont. Because I do not understand how you will treat your mate like that and tell me that it is the only way.”

My teeth were grounded as every word she said were the exact sticks that whipped across my heart.

Yet, the pain was useless because I still didn’t know what else I was supposed to do. How else could I save her from the evil that resided within me…

I tried to ignore Laleh and walk away but my sister was persistent. She pulled my arm back in her direction and I had no choice but to face her.

Her eyes screamed the anger that was reflected in her voice and it bathed me with guilt.

“You told me you loved her. You told me that you have marked her as yours. You told me that you saved her from Nicholas. Why would you treat her like this then? Where is that love now?” She yelled.

I tried to hold back but my guilt had broken me. My control slipped and I yelled back at her.

“I am only trying to protect her and you know why.”

Silence filled the room as my words lingered above us.

Laleh opened her mouth to speak but before she could manage to say anything, the doors to the dining room burst open. and the maids came running with fear in their eyes.

“There is something wrong with the future Luna, Mary the chief maid said.

I didn’t even waste a second to hear the details as soon as I heard that Vera was involved, I charged in the direction of her

room.

The door wasn’t sealed, so it came off easily as I kicked it.

“Vera,” I called as panic slowly took over my bones.

There was no one in her room but my wolf was picking up the faint beat of her heart and the sound was scaring the shit out

of me

“She is in the bathroom, Laleh said behind me and we both ran there.

The door was closed but a defined kick from me sent it crashing down. And as it opened, my wolf froze.

The strong metallic smell of blood filled my nostrils and I knew that this was critical even before I saw her. “Get Car. Now” I growled as I ran to Vera’s pale form soaked in her blood.

Chapter 8

Her wrists were distorted with blood–old and fresh. I blocked my thoughts out and the only thing I focused on was how to save her.

I carried her in my arms, running like my life was about to end–and if anything happened to her, my life was really going to end with her.

When I got to the garage, Laleh was waiting with a car ready. I gently placed Vera in and the driver started the car.

Throughout the ride, I held Vera close to me, begging the goddess to show me mercy,

I couldn’t lose another mate, yet again. Jasmine was supposed to be the last one to die.

Memories of Jasmine’s death rocked through me and I shook my head. Vera was supposed to be my last.

Goddess, please….

Tears sat in my eyes as I held Vera’s hands, refusing to let them fall. Letting my tears fall was like accepting that she was dying. I refused to take that

As the vehicle reached the hospital, I didn’t wait for it to park before I got down with Vera in my arms.

I ran all the way and when I got inside, Sarah didn’t need to ask questions, she knew what to do.

They transferred Vera to a bed and pushed it to the emergency ward where no one but the doctors were allowed in.

Laleh and I, remained at the door, pacing and begging the goddess to show mercy.

I just saved her from what was supposed to be a traumatic experience. I should have known that pushing her away wasn’t going to help her.

Now look at what I have done..

The tears in my eyes stung but I swallowed them back. Vera couldn’t die. I wouldn’t be able to live with the pain and guilt. She tried to end her life because of me.

I didn’t know if this was just my curse or my actions which were pushed by the same curse.

But she mustn’t die.

When the door to the emergency unit finally opened Sarah stepped and I rushed towards her, my heart beating like a racing horse.

“How is she?”

Sarah’s eyes were stern but I could see the relief in them.

“She is out of danger. But I would like to know; what pushed her into this, Blaise? When she came to me this morning, she was happy. What did you do?”

I thought I had a good reason for ignoring Vera but as Sarah glared at me waiting for an answer, I couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud.

“He thinks ignoring her and treating her like she doesn’t matter would help save her from his curse.” Laleh cut in with red

eyes.

Two of her fingers raised and they pointed at me. “You are lucky she is out of danger, Blaise. If anything had happened to Vera, you would have lost me too. She hissed walking away from the corridor.

Chapter

My soul and wolf went numb.

Feeling pain or anger… Or anything at all was supposed to be just that feelings and nothing more.

But as my sister walked out on nie, the pain became more than just a feeling. It lingered around my chest, clutching me till it became too hard to breathe.

My legs suddenly felt weak and lowered myself into the closest seat.

“Avoiding your mate isn’t going to save them from the curse Blaise… Sarah’s voice swept through my ears as she placed her hand comfortingly on my right shoulder.

“If you are worried you’ll hurt her, you should tell her rather than push her away.”

My blurred vision turned to her. “That didn’t work on Jasmine… I told her and you know what I did to her…”

Jasmine wasn’t exactly your mate. We have talked about this Blaise.”

“But I loved her just as much.”

Her hand lowered to my wrist and she squeezed it gently.

“It doesn’t count. This is Vera and you have to treat her like she matters. Tell her about the ceremony. Make it up to her and whatever you do, do not run from her,” Sarah said before leaving my side.

Her advice was good but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t risk telling Vera the truth, not after what she almost did to herself.

I had to find another way to fix it. Another way to fix me.
