Book 1 of Alpha Wolf: Mate Mine
Chapter 60 ~ Something Is Wrong

A few notes to clarify some of your doubts:

I know you think Mirko can feel Elena’s emotions since she marked him ... and in a way yes, he does, but don’t forget it’s Mirko, soooo ... you’ll see why.

Also, don’t forget that the mating process hasn’t been completed, so they can’t mind link yet! And they can’t fully feel the emotions of one and the other ... not too much at least !! Not until they have completed the mating and until Mirko marks her too! Also Elena can’t mind link Marco because he is already part of Black Devil and Elena not yet.

Also when you are inside Black Devil, you cannot mind link other packs.

~~~~~~~
When Mirko was returning to his pack, the sun was still hiding behind the treetops, playing hide and seek with the world. A flock of birds, each just large enough to be considered a mere appetizer, passed by the Alpha...keeping a safe distance.
Unable to remain in an enclosed space with all that built-up pressure, that tension now part of his daily routine, Mirko had gone running to far-away lands, where the gaia was still in charge, where the filthy arms of human development had not yet reached those wild places...
In those lands, his primal instincts could be unleashed. In those lands, he was granted the liberty to truly be himself, a dominant Alpha Wolf. In those lands, he could whiz through the forest, undisturbed, paw after paw, embracing that feeling of sheer freedom.
In those lands, he could hunt as much as he wanted, unleashing the kraken (Craken) in all his ravenous might.
Mirko had always treasured those moments... however, there was something wrong that night...
Certain inexplicable facts had happened.
The Alpha had begun to feel a discomfort on his neck and chest. It all started with a little pinch, as if a nagging tick had decided to spend time feasting on his blood. Eventually it had turned into something almost painful, accentuating the mixture of frown and confusion that marred the young man’s face.
Neither Mirko nor Craken had the faintest idea why.
Neither Mirko nor Craken had been well informed about the ′mate bond′ subject, growing up in an extremely chauvinist pack... they had not even bothered to learn more about how the mate bond worked and all the implications behind certain signals, such as feeling pain coming from the mark, discomfort, and so on.
Neither Mirko nor Craken had the slightest idea that, during that nocturnal escapade, their mate was being mistreated in their own territory.
As far as Mirko knew, Elena was safe in Full Moon pack. The six guards he had posted around the perimeter were keeping him updated.
Those men were aware that their life would end when they failed to protect their future Luna, hence they took the job more than seriously...as a matter of life or death. Literally.
In the end, both the human and the wolf side agreed that the pain on his neck must be the mark pushing him to mark his mate....
Oh, Black Alpha was about to realise how wrong he was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Once Mirko was close to Black Devil, he marched to his personal shower: the lake. Already filled with a fresh deer caught on the way back, he intended to go get his mate as soon as the sun came out from behind the trees and never leave her side again.

Hope and peace were the feelings that Mirko should have felt, so close to starting a new life with his predestined mate... but no. The mark spot was so hot and red that even Mirko, almost immune to pain after his rough childhood, could feel it. Not quite physically but almost ... on an emotional level.

‘Something’s wrong,’ Craken growled out of nowhere as they approached the border. At those words, Mirko halted, sniffing the area and looking around for an out of place detail. Some pack members were already active across the border, the majority already heading for the training grounds with a happy-looking Crucifero marching ahead of them.

The first sounds of the morning and the families waking up flooded Mirko’s acute senses as he scanned the surroundings.

Before he could question his wolf, one of the guards, who was assigned to that specific side, approached him.

“Good morning Alpha.” He greeted, bowing his head as a sign of respect. Mirko nodded at him, rubbing the mark that had not stopped burning.

“An intruder was found on the western border last night.”

Mirko did not really care as there were always some too stupid rogues who wandered too close to his territory, often trespassing.

Of course, they would all eventually kill them after a quick interrogation.

“And why should I know it?” Mirko asked in a harsh voice, already annoyed by this man.

Normally Rolando oversaw that kind of business. And usually the Gamma only took care of the most dangerous intruders or the ones who might be hiding something evil.

“The rogue is a she-wolf”

Mirko, who was already walking way, stopped, raising an eyebrow. Rogue she-wolves, all alone, were truly a rarity.

One of the laws Black Alpha imposed as soon as he killed Alpha Tiberious, his own father, or the person who used his sperm to create him, was to ban any kind of rape, both to women from the pack and to strangers. No matter if they were scoundrels or belonged to different pack.

Despite there was zero tolerance towards the usual rogues, the females were subjected to a real interrogation by Gamma himself, rather than by one of the lower level soldiers.

‘Rolando!’ Alpha mentally contacted his Gamma. ‘There is a female intruder in the cells. Go and question her.’

‘Yes, sir, yes!’ His sarcastic response came straight after. The wolf was already so freaking awake with that ringing voice. ‘I was already told so. Although she’s not in the cells where she was supposed to be-’

Already forgetting the matter, Mirko began to massage his chest, feeling a strange pain, as if an invisible hand were squeezing his heart.

‘Okay, I don’t really care. Just find the rogue.’

‘Ok, Mr Grumpy’

Ignoring the sarcastic comment, Mirko focused on Craken pacing back and forth. The anxiety escalating.

‘What’s wrong with us, Craken?’

‘I’m not sure ... I think mate is in pain?’

.....

‘Renato!’ Mirko snarled through the mind link, feeling a rage and apprehension envelop him like a cloak.

‘Yes, Alpha’ the reply was immediate.

‘Is Elena still in her bedroom? And do not fucking check her out like last time if you don’t want any more beating.’ Mirko snapped, his blood boiling at the memory. ‘Just make sure she’s there.’

‘Y-yes Alpha. I’m going to check right away but the Full Moon female should be there. She went to sleep early last night.’ Renato did not even bother to explain to his broody Alpha that ‘last time’ was an accident and that he did not see anything.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Mirko was still unable to wash away the bad omen from his body.

‘Fuck it!’ Mirko grunted, ‘I’m going to Full Moon now.’

He just had to discuss a few matters with the guard chief and then he could be free to go and get Elena himself. It did not matter if it wasn’t even dawn.

The women had already started to turn their heads towards their super sexy Alpha, sniffing another female on him.

There were rumors around the pack that the Alpha found his fated mate, but Mirko had not officially announced it yet and only a few people knew her identity.

The fresh mark, however, would confirm those rumors. And that same mark instinctively kept all those staring-women away... Mirko chuckled to himself noticing their grimaces and unhappy faces...

Mirko had no idea that this was going to be his last chuckle in quite some time. Mirko had no idea how things were about escalate.

It all started to fall apart while he was discussing with his warrior chief about certain improvements to be made on the border.

Listening to the man tell him details and information, Mirko’s patience was fearfully ending. All his instincts drove him to go to her. To look for her. Especially after Renato did not answer his follow-up mind call.

Soon, a troubling Gamma contacted him.

‘M-Mirko...’ The stuttering in his voice was really an oddity. A rarity.

Alpha Mirko frowned, raising a hand to stop his warrior leader’s report.

’What’s up?′ He asked annoyed. Anything now, even the birds in the sky and the rustling of the leaves annoyed him.

A muffled sound was the only reply that came from the mind-link.

‘Speak now Gamma’ Craken was the one who yelled through Mirko, panting.

‘Um, there’s a situation down here ...’

And then he gulped again.

Of all people, Gamma had never, ever been afraid of anything, not even of Craken or a crazed Crucifero. In fact, Gamma was a scary werewolf, one of whom others used to keep a safe distance ... causing levels of fear similar to those that Mirko himself provoked.

One of the few people who could stand up to Alpha Tiberious. The one who had dismembered and cut off the head of the infamous Tiberious’s Beta.

Mirko had never seen him worried, unless Marica was sick or angry with him.

‘Er, well, you have to come here right now... because-’ a third gulping reached Mirko’s ultra-annoyed ears. Did he have problems with salivation?!

‘I can’t come. I-’ Mirko started but was abruptly interrupted.

Neither Mirko nor Craken were happy with the disrespect. Despite being friends since the beginning of time, Rolando and Mirko had never forgotten who the Alpha was between the two.

‘I fucking told you to come here, you Alpha idiot!’ Rolando shouted with a mixture of nervousness and anger.

Stunned for just a second, the growl from Mirko made the warrior leader jump back...and that was a man over two meters tall and as wide as a minivan. (2 meters=6.5ft)

“What the fuck did you just say to me?” This time Mirko had not even bothered to use the mind link, too furious to realize it. The ice-cold Antarctic voice and the radiation of power caused the people around him to take a few steps back. And those people were some of the infamous Black Devil’s huge fierce warriors.

‘S-sorry Alpha but you have to be here in person ... the she-wolf ... she’s not just any she-wolf.’

AN/ Part below is an extra (a sort of bonus for you) :)

On the other side of the mind-link, Gamma Rolando, who was in the Underworld, wanted his Alpha to go there and take care of the ‘situation’ by himself ... If Mirko knew who was imprisoned in the dungeons, no, in the Underworld, full of scratches, passed out, after spending a whole night there, he could easily rip off the heads of everyone around him and destroyed the whole pack. It had happened once ... a long time ago.

Rolando had witnessed what Mirko could cause in the event that he lost his mind and surrendered to a feral Craken. He could turn into a creature that even the god of war himself feared.

Ever since he found his mate, Mirko had developed a weak spot only for her. It was essential for Black Devil’s sake that he came over there without fully knowing why. And Roando knew very well that he would have to throw some gasoline on an-already-angry-fire to encourage him to come.

’Come here now, shit head! The situation demands your immediate presence, so move that obese ass and join me in the Underworld!′ He knew that Mirko would be furious at those disrespectful epitopes.

He also hoped not to be dismembered alive by Craken before Alpha saw who was in the cell.

Elena needed medical attention, thank goodness she was alive and luckily with all her clothes on. Rolando would have liked to take her to the infirmary himself ... but he could not touch her ... or Craken would have smelled his scent on her and God knows what the black alpha would have done. Friend or not.

Rolando sighed with relief when Mirko began to head towards his location, like lightning.

‘What the fuck are you doing in the Underworld?’

Craken literally wanted to skin Rolando out of his skin for being so disrespectful.

‘What’s wrong with my Gamma today?’
