“Remember the plan?” I asked quietly, dipping my oar into the water and slowly turning our boat to discreetly find a place to dock. “They might very well know that we’re here. Or, they could have no clue. And if they do, they may or may not know what it is that we are here for. I mean, they could think that we think we can fight an army of shadow creatures alone.” I said sarcastically, trying to hide the fear which consumed me.

Akuma nodded, steering the boat with me. “Sneak in, find the crystal, be quiet, find a way to steal crystal, book it off the island, row harder than ever before, battle the wind, figure out how to use crystal, defeat n entire army of shadow creatures, some trolls and a lady who killed some of the gods. Easy.” He said quietly.

I laughed, butterflies fluttered my stomach. “When did life get so complicated?” I asked.

He thought about this for a moment. “Probably when the world started to end, or maybe when you started to shoot fire out of your hands.” He said, practically.

I laughed, nodding. “Probably.” I spotted a forest at the far side of the island. “There,” I said, pointing to a fallen tree “it’s less likely to be heavily guarded, being the south side. We’ll tie the boat there.” He nodded, steering the boat towards the tree. I dug around in the boat’s storage for a few moments, before then finding a rope and pulling it out I also found some nuts and fruit which would be our food source while on the island. I then lied the worn material on the wooden boards which lined the boat.

When the boat reached the land, I handed Akuma the rope and jumped off the boat. The sand was coarse and the muddy brown was covered in sharp black rocks which burned, even before it even reached the surface of your skin.

“Alright, so apparently, Sombra lives in the dormant volcano,” Akuma whispered into my ears, leaning closer. He pointed to the giant mountain which rested miles ahead of us. “Based on how many shadow creatures we’ve fought coming here, I’d say they know we’re coming. Therefore, we need to be even more discreet, as not to alarm any shadows. So all we need to do is sneak through this dark forest, reach the volcano, find the crystal, steal it, and leave," he said as if to assure himself that his current world wasn’t simply a nightmare.

I nodded, placing my hand on his shoulder. “Easy peasy,” I said quietly, smiling warmly. I placed my hand over my sword, readying myself for a surprise attack. I watched Akuma do the same, then stepped into the shadow of the densely crowded forest.
