Chapter 86 

Jackson stood where he was, watching Vanessa from behind. 

“Mr. Foster?” Mr. Lynch could tell something was wrong 

“Mr. Lynch, did you say that you guys would pick some wild mushrooms for lunch? Jackson asked. 

Mr. Lynch was all smiles. “That’s right. They are picking and will be done soon” 

Jackson asked, “Can I join them?” 

Mr. Lynch immediately said, “Sure! Mr. Foster, look, there are many mushrooms over there.” 

He could tell that Jackson wanted to follow people from Greenwood Village. Perhaps Jackson knew the people who came to inspect. As for whether they were their friends or enemies, Mr. Lynch was not sure for the time being. 

In any case, as long as they didn’t harm his interests, he would just play dumb and cooperate. 

They walked forward, following William’s group.

“You’re done with the inspection?” Vanessa was surprised. 

“Yeah.” William smiled and raised his eyebrows slightly. 

Actually, there was not much to investigate. He just needed to come to the village to confirm the location and take a look at the surrounding environment. 

“Then shall we go down the mountain?” Vanessa asked. 

“Okay,” William replied. 

When Mr. Hecox heard that they were going down the mountain, he felt that he had not had enough fun and asked, “Are we going down the mountain?” 

“Yes,” William said. 

“Okay, let’s go. Mr. and Mrs. Hawk, slow down,” Mr. Hecox said. 

The group prepared to go down the mountain. 

The villagers from the Milestone Village who had said it was about to rain looked at the sky again and said, “I’m afraid it’s really about to rain. Let’s go down the mountain.” 

“It won’t rain son soon. It’s been like this for the past few days. The people from Greenwood Village had the foresight to bring raincoats. 

They divided up the raincoats and everyone hurriedly put them on. 

William handed the basket to Jim and helped Vanessa tidy up her raincoat. He held her hand and said, “Slow down. Let’s go 

down the mountain.” 

The two teams were both ready to leave now.

Mr. Lynch also led a group of people to hide under the big maple tree. 

It was winter and the tree almost lost all its leaves, but as it had so many branches, Jackson’s clothes were not wet. 

It was just that dead branches would occasionally fall off the tree from the rain. 

“There’s another tree over there.” Vanessa pointed to a tree at the side. 

It was much smaller than the big maple tree, but as they were wearing raincoats, the small tree was enough to shelter them from the rain. 

William brought Vanessa over, and the villagers of Greenwood Village immediately caught up with them. 

Everyone stood under the tree while watching the rain. They were prepared to go down the mountain when the rain

The others followed his gaze and saw stones and mud falling off a mountain not far away. 

“I hope there’s no one there,” one of the villagers said. 

“I don’t think there’s anyone there. Landslides often occur in that place. A villager used to live there. Later, the village government reassigned him a piece of land to build a house, and he has moved.” 

“The rain is so damn heavy. Will there be a landslide on our side?” 

“Bah! Are you cursing us? Has there ever been a landslide on Mount Yanstall?” 

“There was one when it rained heavily the year before last.” 

“That was a storm… Gosh!” a villager cried out. 

The mud behind a villager not far away from Vanessa collapsed. Next, he lost his balance and hurriedly grabbed a small tree beside him. 

However, the tree was so small that its root was pulled out of the soil when he grabbed it. Vanessa hurried over and reached out to him, trying to pull him back. Unfortunately, the villager lost his balance and pulled Vanessa down the slop with him. “Nessa!” William immediately rushed over. He reached out to pull Vanessa but failed because he was sliding even faster than 

her. 

“Willie!” Vanessa had just grabbed a tree that was slightly thicker than her wrist while she was sliding down. Just as she calmed down a little, she saw William fall and shouted anxiously. 

Vanessa’s vision was getting blurry from the heavy rain. When she looked down and saw William sliding down, she simply let go of the tree, wanting to slide down with him. 

As soon as she loosened her grip on the tree, Jackson grabbed her and the two of them rolled down together. 

As the rain continued to pour down, the mountain was filled with people’s screams. 

“Hurry up! Go find them!” 

“Ah! Help!” 

The mud slid down like crazy in the storm. 

“Willie!” Vanessa sat up, sweating profusely. 

She woke up from a terrible dream. 

Then she found herself in Katerine’s house. 

Vanessa was extremely worried at the thought of William. She lifted the blanket and was about to get out of bed. 

Katerine rushed in and pressed her down. “Mrs. Hawk, you can’t move around for the time being. You have a fracture and it will take 100 days before you recover. Don’t move.” 

It was not easy for them to get Katerine a doctor to reconnect her bones. If she moved a lot and broke her bone again, she would have to suffer the pain one more time.
