Chapter 40

Sarah Willaims – POV 

I didn’t spend much of my time in town because of the few other boutiques that I went to, they either didn’t have the color I was looking for, or I didn’t like the dress. My heart was telling me to just go back there and purchase the dress, but my mind was insisting on how many more things I can do using that money so, in the end, I went back home. 

Once I reached the pack house, I parked my car in front of the pack house and made my way to beta Alan’s house. I tried opening the front door, and surprisingly, the door opened. The house was eerily quiet, but a few lights were turned on, which means that Beta Alan had already come back home. I did not go looking for him instead, I made my way to my room to start packing my clothes because I planned to leave this pack in the morning. 

It took me an hour to finish packing, and once I was done, I laid down on my bed and dialed my mom’s number. 

“Cupcake!” her cheery voice sounded from the other end, and a smile instantly formed on my face. 

“Mom, how are you?” 

“I am doing great, cupcake. I had been baking a few things,” she said, and this instantly took me back to my college days. Whenever I would come home for the vacation, mom would bake all the cakes and cookies that I love, and make me finish. everything before heading back. My eyes watered and my lips quivered and there was a nostalgic smile on my face. 

“You know I am only staying for two days, right?” I asked her,

and I heard something banging in the background.

“You can always pack everything and take it with you,” she said, and I nodded my head, even though she would not be able to see it. “So, what do you need from me?” she asked me. 

“How do you know that I need something?” I asked her in suspicion, and I heard her sigh. 

“My mommy’s instinct worked. I know that you would not be calling me at this hour if you do not need anything,” she said, and I buried my face in my pillow. 

“Fine, I called to ask you, if you could get me a dress for the announcement ceremony?” 

“Why? Didn’t you buy anything there? I mean, I have heard that the white blood pack has unique dresses that any woman can dream of.” mom said. 

“They do have, mom. But the prices are beyond my budget.” explained. 

“Okay, dear, I will get one for you,” she said, after talking about a few random things we said our good nights. After taking a shower, I changed into my pajamas and made my way downstairs to have dinner. Beta Alan was nowhere to be found, but the table was already set for two, and a plate of spaghetti was there. 

“Should I go and call him to eat?” 

“Well, he has made us food, the least we can do is call him to come and eat with us,” Jane suggested, and letting out a tired sigh, I put aside my ego and made my way upstairs to his room. The door was closed, but I heard footsteps inside. I

knocked on his door a few times and waited till he opened it. 

“Sarah?” Zachary was surprised to see me at his door, and I know that I would have given the same reaction after what happened in the morning. 

“Um, I saw that you have made dinner for the both of us. So, I thought of calling you to eat with me.” I said while avoiding making eye contact with him. 

“Oh, I will eat later. You can have dinner if you are hungry, Sarah,” he said. His voice sounded distant, and I know that he was still not over the argument that he had earlier. 

“Then, I will also have my dinner later,” I said adamantly, and when I looked at him, he had his eyes narrowed at me. I know that he must be thinking that I have gone crazy right now. “My mom would always say that no matter what arguments you have with someone, you should never show that anger towards the food,” I mumbled. “Please?” I pledged with the best puppy dog eyes that I can make, and at last, he nodded his head. 

The pasta was cold by the time we sat to have dinner, but neither of us complained. “So, what time are you leaving?” Zachary asked me. 

“I am thinking of leaving at six. That way, I get to spend more time with my mom before coming back here.” I told him, and he nodded his head. We made a few more small talk before I quickly finished my dinner and went to bed. 

The sun was just rising on the horizon, but the pack was already bustling with energy. I hauled my suitcase downstairs, and after loading it into the car, I came back to the house to get my handbag, and that is when I saw Zach coming

downstairs. “Hey, good morning.” he greeted.

“Good morning,” I replied. He reached the last stair and made his way to me. 

“So, all set to go?” he asked me, and I nodded my head, after that, the atmosphere was filled with an awkward silence. 

“Um, I better make a move,” I said, pointing at the door, he nodded his head, and when I was about to leave, he held my 

hand. 

“I know that you want to be just friends with me. So, won’t you hug me before leaving?” my heart skipped a beat at his request, but his eyes held sincerity, and for some odd reason, I didn’t like this Zacahry that I was seeing. I expected him to completely ignore my request and continue with his flirting, but now I feel like I am missing something. 

“Ah, yeah,” I said, and he soon engulfed me in a hug. The hug only lasted for a few seconds before he let me go, and my wolf whined at the loss of contact. I know that I should sort out my feeling, but I could not help but feel sad. 

“I will see you soon,” I said and soon left the house and made my way to the car.
