His lips were the only thing that kept reappearing in my mind while I was staring at his retreating figure. “Excuse me.” I was broken out from my trance, and I looked to see that a warrior was waiting for me to move aside, so I apologized to him and stepped aside while he entered the pack house and after a while, I followed behind. I made my way upstairs, and the closer I got to Beta Alan’s room, the faster my heartbeat was, but there was also the sound of distinct yelling. When I arrived at his door, the yelling was more prominent, and I debated if I should knock on the door or not.

I raised my hand, and when my fist was about to collide with the wood, the door opened, and Beta Alan glared at me.

“What do you want?” he sneered at me, and this made the words get stuck in my throat and I took an involuntary step back when I felt his anger radiating from him in waves.

“Don’t you dare show your anger that you have towards me to someone else, Zachary! I have had enough of your behavior.” his father yelled, and Zachary turned his attention towards his father again while opening the door wider for me to see what was going on inside.

“She is my secretary, and I have the right to do whatever I want.” Beta Alan, asserted, but this made Mr.Alan frown, and he gestures for me to come inside. I sidestepped Beta Alan, who was blocking my entrance, and I walked further into the room.

“How long have you worked as his secretary?”

“Um…this is my second day,” I replied, and he nodded his head

“The moment I saw you, my wolf told me that you would correct Beta Alan, and now I think I have that confidence.”

“Dad, what nonsense…”

“I want my son to get married to a woman that I have seen since he didn’t take any initiative to find his second chance mate, and I am appointing you here to make sure that he doesn’t go around sleeping with or in your words making love to other women,” he said with a smirk and an emphasis on the last phase, and my cheeks flushed red when I realized that the person whom I rudely spoke to over the phone on my first day was Mr.Alan.

But what hurt more was when he told me that he had already found someone for his son. My wolf was howling in agony while my entire body was numb, I didn’t know what to say or what to feel at the moment. Should I feel angry because beta Alan is going to give the beta female position to someone who is not his mate, or should I feel happy that he does not have a say in this, in front of his father? At least, there is someone of whom beta Alan is afraid.

“I am not getting married to anyone who is not my mate, dad.” beta Alan spoke with venom. His eyes were wide and his face was red in anger.

“Then, put an effort to find your second chance mate.” Mr.Alan asserted and walked towards Zachary’s desk and took a brown envelope and handed it over to Beta Alan.

“This envelope has the picture and the entire details of the girl that I have chosen for you. I will come again after three months, and if you still didn’t find your mate, then I will finalize this alliance.” Mr.Alan said in a warning tone and stepped back and turned his attention towards me.

My heart broke into a million pieces while I tried my best to keep the tears at bay. I didn’t want anyone to find out about my relationship with beta Alan, especially his father. “Miss. Williams, could you please walk me to the door?” he asked me politely, and even though I wanted to tell him ‘no’, I didn’t have the will in me to reject his request, so I begrudgingly left the room with him.

We made our way downstairs, and when we came to a stop in front of a Mercedes, Mr.Alan turned around to face me. “I know who you are, Miss.Williams.” this statement made me sk ip a heartbeat, but I made sure to maintain a poker face.

“Yes, Mr.Alan, I am beta Alan’s secretary,” I said, but he gave me a mocking smile and shook his head.

“Your scent is overpowered by my son’s, and even though I know about his womanizing abilities, I know that you are not that sort of a woman. I saw the way Zachary looked at you.”

“I don’t understand what you are trying to say, Mr.Alan.”

“You are his second chance mate. And please, don’t try to deny that, dear,” he said, and this made my heart squeeze, and I bit my lip to stop myself from crying. “I know that Zachary must have been hard on you. But would you promise me something?” he asked me, and this time, I only saw the fatherly love swirling in his eyes. His face looks worn out. “Zachary, faced the worst when he met that wretched Carolina, she destroyed him and made him into a shell of a person. But, I know that you can get him back from the darkness that is slowly consuming him, dear. Would you promise me that you would try your best to change my son for the better?” he asked me in a pledging voice, and he stretched his hands and took mine in his.

I couldn’t say no when I saw a teardrop slide down Mr.Alan’s cheek. My vision blurred, and soon tears freely followed down my cheeks. I know what it feels like to be deprived of a father’s love, and when Mr.Alan looked at me as if I was his own daughter and when he asked me, I didn’t have the heart to say ‘no’.

“I promise, that I will try my best, Mr.Alan.”
