Chapter Twenty-Two

For the rest of the day, I spent time training with Liv and Carla as Lucien watched me with a keen eye.

“He looks like he might eat you,” Liv laughs as Carla manages to take me down, grinning.

“I was distracted,” I point at her.

“I don’t care, I took the alpha down!” She laughs.

“Plus…He already did,” I smirk at Liv as her eyes go wide and she fans her face with her hand.

“Did it just get hot out here or is it just me!” the girls laugh as I look towards Lucien who is grinning, shaking his head at me.

“Let’s switch it up! Carla partner with David, Liv with Daniel,” Lucien calls out to us.

“I think he’s got us mixed up twin,” Daniel smirks.

“No I got it right, if you both train with your mates then we may end up with an orgy and that’s not what we want,” Lucien laughs.

“So what about me, boss man?” I smirk.

“Run,” He smirks as I raise a brow in question.

“Run, I’m giving you a head start here,” he says as I grin, shifting as I run across the field as I peek back he’s shifting, chasing after me.

“What you got big man?!” I laugh pushing myself harder as he’s hot on my tail, nipping playfully at me.

“Better not let me get you, Serena,” He growls.

“Never going to catch me!” I say darting through the trees before suddenly realising he’s no longer behind me and I can’t see him.

“Too easy,” He says through our link as I lower myself to the ground, ready to pounce at any moment.

“Come at me,” I growl.

Hearing the snap of a twig behind me I realise where he is, pretending not to know as he stalks closer and closer before he goes to pounce I turn, jumping on him, pinning him with a thud as I bite softly into the scruff of his neck.

“You underestimate me, Lucien,” I laugh, my tail wagging happily as I nudge him with my nose as he stands upright.

“I’ve never underestimated you I know what you’re capable of and I’m proud of you,” He says as he nuzzles into my side.

I hear the crunch of a tree as we spin to see a tree falling in front of us as I push Lucien away, the tree falls and pins me to the ground as I yelp.

“Serena!” He howls out for help as the pack comes running.

Bullets begin to whizz past us as I look at Lucien in shock.

“Get to cover!” I howl as I try and get out from under the tree, Lucien begins to dig under me, trying to help me get out.

“Lucien, protect the pack!” I growl, swatting him with my paw as a bullet narrowly misses his head.

“Little alpha!” A voice calls chuckling in the distance.

“I am not leaving you!” Lucien growls.

“GO!” I snarl.

He whimpers as he darts away towards the pack, leading them to safety as I hear the crunch of twigs nearby.

“Oh look how the mighty have fallen. Love makes you weak Serena, have you not realised that yet. Only pain and suffering can make you stronger.” Ben comes out of the darkness of the trees.

“I’m stronger when I take out one of you assholes, I mean Sebastian, Callum and Thomas are all dead, I feel pretty good with that,” I growl.

“That is a great shame, however, we have enough people to replace them easily,” Ben smirks from the border as I realise I can’t shift to get out from under the tree easily.

“What the fuck have you done?” I growl.

“I…Broke…The…Border…” he grins with every step.

“The border has been destroyed! Get them out!” I link to Lucien as I hear his howl.

Ben uses his magic to lift the tree before lifting me into the air as I yelp in pain as he crushes my bones with power.

“No you don’t,” Pauline hisses as she and Tony flit to my side, crashing into Ben as I drop to the ground howling in pain.

“Shift Serena, I can’t lift you like this,” Tony says as I shift and he picks me up, flitting across the grounds as Pauline fights Ben off.

“Lucien called in the hunters they’ll be here soon!” Daniel and David take me from Tony as he flits away to help Pauline.

“Formation! We have no choice but to leave on foot! We’ll be surrounded within minutes!” Lucien growls out.

“Serena, your leg is broken, we don’t have time to fix it right now,” Daniel growls.

“She’ll ride me,” Lucien growls as the twins put me on his back carefully as I sob at the pain as my leg begins to heal, but it was healing in all the wrong places.

“What about Pauline?!” I cry out.

“Pauline will teleport as soon as we’re out!” Liv says.

The pack all group up as Lucien leads them, I could see Olivia riding Wren as Carla and Daniel stayed beside her.

“Carla, stay close to the boys, do not leave their sides,” I order her as she turns to me nodding.

“Move out!” Lucien howls as the stronger warriors stay on the outside of the pack as vampires begin to flit around us, trying to get to us as they are torn apart.

“I need to help!” I cry out as a pack member falls to the ground. But as a pack we surround him, picking him up before setting off again.

“You can’t with your leg like that,” Lucien growls.

“Then I need to sort the leg,” I groan as I sit up carefully on him.

“Wren, if I want to set this bone properly what do I do?” I ask.

“You’ll have to re-break it and straighten it,” She answers as Daniel leaps over her and Olivia to Carla’s side, taking out a vampire that was about to get her.

“Carla!” I cry out.

“We’ve got this!” She replies as we move.

“Shit, shit, shit,” I grumble as I take my leg, close my eyes, and pull at my leg hard, snapping the bones again as I scream out in pain before moving it, so it sat straight.

“Serena…” Lucien whines as I pant through the pain as it begins to heal.

“I’ve got it,” I groan.

“We’re never going to make it!” Liv calls as I turn to see a swarm of vampires coming after us.

“We’ll make it!” I growl as I feel the last piece of bone click in place before jumping off of Lucien’s back and shifting as I leap into action, howling to rally them and push the others to keep going.

In a mass of claws and teeth, I heard the rumble of cars coming our way as guns began to bang, vampires, falling to the ground before several loud howls echoed in the air as my father and a group of hunters and wolves joined us.

“Wren! Get Olivia to the base, take the weaker ones with you!” I link as she howls, going from wolf to wolf as she created a small group, pushing through the frays.

“Serena! Help!” I hear Carla cry as I search for her, leaping over the twins who were also fighting to get to her as I bowled over several vampires, ripping them to shreds.

“Stay by me,” I nudge her as she sticks to my side before the boys join us.

“We need to get to the base!” Lucien howls out as we all get back to a formation.

“Dad! Lead the pack, I’ve got the back!” I order as he howls, Lucien staying in the middle helping the weak.

“Carla go run with Lucien and Liv,” I tell her as she growls but runs off.

“Why did you do that?” Daniel asks.

“Have you looked behind us?” I growl looking behind as I could see hundreds of vampires chasing us.

“Pick up the pace!” Daniel howls as wolves look back and the pack pushes harder.

“Pauline and Silas have created a new border we just have to get in it!” Dad calls. The hunters are all lined up in front of us as I can see Pauline and Silas waiting with panic.

“Serena!” David shouts leaping over me taking down a vampire that was about to take me down as I turn, helping him up as a group descends us.

The pack stop waiting for us, prepared for the attack.

“Get going! I’ll buy some time,” I growl pushing David as I howl, and the pack continue.

“You are not doing this alone,” David stays by my side as we leap into action, one by one we take vampires down as I keep glancing back at the pack as they got behind the new border.

“Serena…Where’s Serena?!” I hear Dad growl as he looks out to us.

“David go!” I growl as we bolt for the border, I stay behind him, making sure he was a clear path.

“I don’t think so!” Yusif bowls me over as I swipe at him, giving him a huge gash in his cheek as he hisses at me.

“Get off of my daughter!” Dad growls as he pounces on Yusif, tearing off his arm as he screams and lets me go.

“Dad, let’s go!” I call as I get back on my feet and he joins me, running for the border as we take out more and more vampires as they slam into the invisible wall as we dart inside it, panting.

“Get the casualties into the medical bay! I want warriors surrounding this place!” Dad growls the order.

“Casualties? Who got hurt?” I look around in panic.

“Nothing serious, few silver burns, minor gashes, that’s all, we were lucky today,” Dad nuzzles my side.

“You call THAT lucky,” I nod to the hundreds of vampires pressing against the invisible border.

“We all lived, the border will hold for now,” He nods shifting.

“I feel like we’re in a video game and this is just wave one…” Carla mumbles nudging my side.

“Yeah, except there’s no restarts or multiple lives in this game,” I sigh.

“Unless you’re Craig,” She says as I roll my eyes.

“Unless you’re Craig,” I nod as I shift.

In the distance I see a mountain of a man, even bigger than Alex had been, he was built like a truck, it had to be Beta Owen.

“Look at him,” Carla gapes at him.

“I’d rather you didn’t,” Daniel nuzzles into her neck.

“Serena, are you ok?” David asks.

“I’m fine, thank you for your help,” I smile.

“You’re a friend and an alpha I would follow to the end of the earth. I’ve got your back,” he smiles.

“Yeah but maybe next time don’t do it just the two of you,” Liv runs up to us, hugging David tightly.

“SERENA! I’m going to rip you to fucking pieces!” I hear Yusif shout angrily as he holds his shoulder which was slowly healing over where his arm should have been.

“You’re ’armless Yusif!” I smirk.

“I’m going to get you, torture you and make you watch as I tear every member of your pack to pieces slowly!” He growls.

“Come on then!” I growl getting close to the border, but not close enough that he would be able to get me.

“We got through the last border, we’ll get through this one,” He hisses.

“Stop hissing at me like a cat,” I laugh.

“Hey! Yusif!” Pauline calls out behind me as she throws something towards him as I see Ben’s head roll across the ground.

“YEAH!” I laugh and hug her.

“NO!” He hisses again.

“Poor Yusif…You’re the last one of your little group…I’m coming for you, you will die by my hand,” I growl with a smirk.

“Let’s go! Re-group!” He orders as his vampires flit away.

“This is nothing little alpha, you’ll be begging for mercy soon!” He points at me before disappearing with the others.
