Chapter Nineteen

I was so uncomfortable the whole night, tossing and turning, not being able to sleep due to the heat radiating through my body.

At some point in the night, I must have fallen asleep as I suddenly felt someone cuddling up to me in the bed as I squeaked in shock, pushing them from me.

“Ouch! First I get shot and then you push me out of bed Serena! Seriously!” Carla growls as I peek over the side of the bed.

“What the fuck are you doing in bed with me?” I laugh as I pull her up from the ground.

“I’m all healed and I could feel something was wrong, then Daniel saw Oliver skulking about outside wanting to burst in as you’re in heat. Daniel scared him off and is currently standing guard outside,” Carla explains.

“You’re joking…” I say as I get up, opening the door to find Daniel laying on the ground as his wolf across my doorway.

“Morning Serena,” Daniel yawns as he shifts, stretching his limbs.

“You didn’t need to guard my door you know, but thank you,” I smile.

“If I hadn’t you wouldn’t have just found Carla in your bed this morning. The heat makes males do stupid things,” Daniel says as Carla tucks herself to his side.

“Well thanks, I’ve had enough of stupid as it is,” I groan.

“Tell me more,” Carla grins as she drags me back to the bed and I have to explain everything that had happened after she was shot.

“Oliver is going to be a problem,” Daniel sighs.

“I don’t blame you with Lucien though, he is hot! Sorry babe but he is!” Carla says as Daniel growls.

“Have you ever noticed that there is no ugly wolves…” Carla continues.

“It’s the genes, we stay healthy, so our physique stays slim, our ageing slows down when we turn eighteen which is why Lucien still looks about twenty-five, even though he’s thirty-nine,” Daniel says.

“Morning Alpha,” Oliver walks by.

“Morning,” I nod as he lingers in the doorway.

“Can I get a moment alone with the alpha guys?” Oliver asks.

“Not a chance buddy,” Daniel growls.

“Why?!”

“Because you’ve been pacing in your room all night, you’ve tried getting into this room all night because she’s in heat, back off!” Carla growls.

“As your beta Carla, I order you to leave!” Oliver growls.

“As your alpha, I strip you of your post until you can get hold of yourself Oliver, now leave,” I snap, holding onto Carla’s arm so she stays put as Daniel just smirks at him.

“You can’t do that!” Oliver snarls, shaking with anger.

“Move along pup, you were given your orders,” I hear a hiss in the corridor.

“You’re not the boss of me vampire,” Oliver growls.

I storm out the room grabbing Oliver by the scruff of his top, throwing him to the wall pinning him.

“Talk like to anyone again and I will strip you of your title permanently, I understand you are struggling with keeping your grimy little cock to yourself so back the fuck off!” I growl.

“I’m sorry alpha,” He says in a panic as I back off and push him away as he runs off, almost like a puppy with his tail between his legs.

“Having a few heating issues?” Tony laughs,

“Oh yeah, just can’t turn the heating off, I’m like a boiled kettle right now, it fucking hurts,” I groan.

“Cold shower for you then, and every male in the pack,” Tony chuckles.

“Actually, that sounds great right about now,” I smile.

“Make sure to lock the door won’t you,” Tony smirks.

“I can wait outside if you like Serena?” Daniel says.

“No it’s fine, go have some breakfast, you’ve been guarding me all night, I can handle myself,”

“Handling herself is exactly what she’ll be doing,” Tony winks playfully.

“TONY!” I exclaim as he walks off laughing his head off.

“Go shower Serena,” Carla hugs me before wandering off to get changed herself.

“Call if you need us,” Daniel says following her as I nod in thanks.

I grab my towel and head to the bathroom, making sure to lock the door, just in case as my body heats up painfully as I groan.

Before I even get undressed someone knocks on the door.

“What?!” I growl as I open the door as I find my father look at me in shock at my outburst.

“Well, that’s a fine good morning to you too,” he says.

“Sorry Dad,” I sigh.

“Difficult morning in heat? I’ve ordered my boys to keep away from you, given a warning to yours too, but of course they may not listen to me. But, that’s not why I am here. Once you’re done washing if you could pop to the office so we can talk about strategies on getting the pack to hunter headquarters,” He says.

“Yes, I’ve had to temporarily strip Oliver of his beta title until he sorts himself out, thanks, Dad. Oh, ok, I’ll be there soon.” I nod.

“I’ll have Lucien have a few words with Oliver, beta to beta. See you in a little while,” He smiles and leaves me to it.

The cool water felt amazing against my skin as it helped cool it a little. I was drying off my body with my towel as someone burst into the bathroom when I realised my mistake, I had forgotten to re-lock the door after talking with my Dad.

“Oh shit!” I cry as I pull the towel to my body.

“Serena! Shit…I…Uh…Sorry!” Lucien looks at me all flustered.

“Get out!” I shout as he stiffens and rushes back out the room slamming the door behind him.

“Shit, shit, shit,” I hear him grumble outside as I quickly get dressed.

“Why would you just burst in like that?!” I exclaim walking back to my room.

“Why didn’t you lock the fucking door?! You’re on heat! Anyone could have walked in!” Lucien growls following me.

“I had and then Dad knocked, so I had to talk to him and then it slipped my mind…” I murmur.

“That slip of your mind could have gone so much worse for you! Remember your pack is full of rogue wolves who have not had the training to deal with females in heat! They go by instinct alone! Instinct that would have meant they would have let their wolves take over and dominate you!” Lucien shouts.

“I KNOW! Don’t you think I know that I’m an alpha to a pack of rogue wolves? But you forget that not all of them have been born that way, some were born of a pack and have had their training. I trust my pack.” I growl.

“Like you trust Oliver?” He raises a brow.

“Don’t go there,” point at him angrily.

“I am trying to keep you safe Serena!” he growls.

“I can keep myself safe!” I shout.

He storms up to me pinning me to the wall with a scowl on his face as I try to get out from his grip, but struggle.

“Get out of my grip Serena,” He growls as I push on his hard chest, but he doesn’t move.

I gulp, heat growing in my body painfully once more as I groan.

“You can’t, when in heat your body is weakened, your wolf reacts to a male instantly, can’t you feel your body reacting to me? The unmated male grows stronger with dominance and you cannot escape my hold, can you? What’s stopping another doing this to you? Taking you as their own as you struggle against them, giving them the challenge they want.” He whispers in my ear as I look at him in shock heat flooding from me.

“Lucien…” I murmur.

“Lock the door next time cupcake,” He sighs, kissing my head before letting me go, leaving the room quickly as I stand there panting from lust.

What…The…Fuck… This heat is going to kill me…

“Serena? Lucien sent me to come get you, are you ok?” Tony comes into the room as he finds me on the ground, head in my hands.

“I really hate being a wolf sometimes…” I groan.

“Did something happen?” He asks.

“I forgot to lock the bathroom door…Lucien walked in…” I grumble.

“Never a dull day! Did he see anything?” He laughs.

“I don’t think he did, I think I pulled the towel over me quick enough…” I mumble.

“Right then, so get yourself together little miss hot stuff and get to your meeting with your Dad and Calvin…Oh and Lucien…Because that won’t be awkward at all,” Tony smirks as he helps lift me from the ground as I follow him grumbling at him.

“I hate you,” I grumble as he chuckles at me, opening the door to the office.

“Feeling better Serena?” Dad asks.

“Not really,” I sigh as I can hear Tony laughing in the corridor as I grab a cushion from a chair and head outside, lobbing it at Tony who just laughs louder.

“Finished?” Dad smirks, brow raised in question.

“Yeah, sorry,” I huff, sitting down, crossing my legs beneath me.

“Just get comfortable why don’t you, it’s only an important meeting…” Lucien says.

“Bite me,” I growl.

“Serena!” Dad barks out.

“Sorry, I’m a little…” I begin.

“Hormonal?” Calvin smirks.

“Yeah, that,” I nod resting my head against the back of the chair, trying not to even look at Lucien.

“Ok. Well firstly, you might notice you no longer feel the need to attach yourself to Brianna, am I right?” Dad says.

“Yeah…I hadn’t even noticed…What’s going on with that?” I frown.

“It would seem that her family link was so strong that she attached herself to you out of instinct and it poured through to you. Now your mother has told her the truth she has learnt to control herself and is feeling more a peace with it so your bond is no longer smothering, she no longer feels the need to be stuck to your side.” Dad says.

“Great, but she’s still staying put,” I say.

“As I said before, she has until she is nineteen to find her mate before her father forces her through a choice mate instead. However, I believe that once his own father has died he might just change his mind, and that man is extremely ill right now.” Dad says.

“Shame,” I grumble sarcastically as I hear Lucien chuckle, my eyes flicking to him with a smile.

Stop! It’s the heat! Stop letting it get to you! I growl at my wolf.

“Secondly, we have spoken with Pauline and Silas and have come up with a plan that does not involve the risks involved with moving the pack with armoured trucks. However, it will take longer.” Dad says.

“What plan?” I ask.

“Pauline and Silas will take it in turns to teleport the pack over.” Calvin answers.

“But won’t that wear them out?” I frown.

“It will but Pauline has guaranteed me that they can get the pack to safety in at least three days. We will need to keep up appearances outside though so that if we are indeed being watched, as I believe we are, that they do not notice our move until the very last minute.” Dad answers.

“How do we do that? We’ve been training the packs together they’ll notice the numbers going down.” I ask.

“We will begin doing it in smaller groups, having myself, you, Daniel, Carla, Tony, David and Liv training a couple of members at a time.” Lucien answers.

“I will be going first with Calvin to sort out things on the other side with your mother and Brianna. We will also take Craig so we can have him held in a better place without him coming to any harm.” Dad says.

“Can you take Oliver with you?” I murmur under my breath.

“Sounds like a great idea, I don’t like him being here around Serena,” Lucien nods.

“I can give him plenty to do to keep him occupied,” Calvin nods.

“Ok, Oliver will come with us too. The last day will be tricky, they will no doubt notice that our numbers have dwindled in the house so you will need to be on guard and have your wits with you permanently. Can I trust you with that Serena?” Dad raises a brow.

“Are you trying to say I get impulsive and distracted easily?” I smirk.

“Yes,” Lucien smirks as I growl biting my lip, cursing myself in my head at my own reactions.

“I’ll be fine. I’m sure Lucien will snap me back to reality if not,” I answer.

“Good.” Dad nods.

“What’s happening with Alpha Quinn’s beta coming here, wouldn’t they come to the house?” I ask.

“I have contacted him and he has relayed a message to his beta for them to head to the base instead, they will be there within a few hours so we need to get going, I want to be there before they are to greet them properly,” Dad answers standing.

“You’re leaving right now?!” I exclaim.

“The quicker we begin the better Serena,” He says.

“I’ll keep an eye on your old man Serena, I promise,” Calvin smiles at me.

“Do not panic sweetheart, we will be together again shortly, now, Lucien, take care of my daughter, no carting her off with another name and losing her again,” Dad chuckles as he claps Lucien on the back.

“I’ll take care of her, I’ll never lose her again, I swear,” He says looking at me and winking.

Heat…God damn it!

“Go eat Serena, you need to keep your strength up, your mother is in the kitchen with the others so you can say goodbye,” Dad says as I sigh nodding before walking out the room.

“Alpha…” Oliver mumbles as I walk past him.

“Ah! Just the man, come into the office a second my boy!” Dad says, no doubt about to tell him he would be going with them.
