The Beast roared, taking a step towards us, cracking the tile in the process. If that's what his feet can do to concrete, imagine someone's face underneath them. I shuddered at the image.

Jannod tightened his hold. "Do you care about her at all? Take another step and I'll snap her neck." He threatened. The Beast took another step. I didn't know if Enzo was in there or this thing had completely taken over, whatever the case, it clearly didn't care about my life.

"Enzo! What are you doing!?" The Beast paused, head tilting to the side, like it was listening to me. "Please stop! Or he's going to kill me." Not the right words, I realized too late.

A roar that shook the building erupted from him. His eyes trained on Jannod, and I knew without a doubt he was going to attack, and so did Jannod.

He shrugged, wrapping his hand around my neck. "I warned you." There was the sound of a sickening crack, and then I was let go, falling. It's like I was watching everything from afar. My body hit the ground, bouncing once, then laying still on the tile floor. My head was at an unnatural angle. I blinked once, then everything was dark.

Enzo

The sound vibrated through my body, making me stiffen. The Beast didn't understand the word stop, all he knew was Valentina needed him. Now, she's dead. Now, there was nothing standing between him and Jannod.

"Oops." The man laughed, kicking her body away from him. It rolled onto her stomach, her head twisted awkwardly. "I did warn you." He shrugged, the Beast pounced.

He snarled, swiping his claws across his face. Smiling in satisfaction at the four bloody welts across his face, and then he was flying back. "If it's a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get." The man stood up, catching us off guard with his use of power.

The Beast stood, smiling at his prey. He didn't want an easy kill, he wanted the man to fight. It'll give him pleasure. In answer, the Beast growled.

It was pointless to try and fight back for control. The Beast wanted vengeance, and he wouldn't stop until he got it. I was fortunate enough to have a front row seat.

I looked over at the baby, my son, the one who caused me to lose control. She brought him into this world, the last piece of her. And I'll do anything to protect him.

My fury joined the Beast, and he grew even more in size. He crouched down on all four, dragging his talons across the tiles. With the speed of lightening he took off towards his prey, a glem in his eyes.

He leaped, using his wings to carry him the rest of the way. The man used his powers, trying to deflect the talons now aiming for his jugular. But it was futile, his powers came from me, mine were far greater. He wasn't catching us off guard again.

He was knocked to the floor. With a roar the Beast buried his teeth in his neck, viciously ripping out flesh. He savored the taste of his blood, feeling his borrowed powers flow back into him. The Beast didn't release him until his head was detached from his body.

Satisfied that his prey was now dead he stood, prepared to take on anyone else that threatened the baby. Everyone took a cautious step back as he eyed them, then he picked his next victim. The creature holding the baby.

He took a step forward, his lip lifting into a snarl. Then he heard a whimper. Looking over he saw the dragon on the still body. He growled, no one touches her!

Two flaps and he was standing before them. With the flick of his claws he knocked the dragon away, picking up the body. It was cold, and her lips were a dark blue. Her body was limp in our arms.

The Beast made a sound, for the first time in all my years of living, I heard the Beast whine in destres. Pressing his face into her neck he inhaled deeply. I watched in agony at her lifeless body. She was gone, I failed her. I needed to get her out of here, I didn't want her body in this place for another second.

The Beast threw his head back, releasing a wail, and then he was flying.

"No wait!" A voice called out from below him, but he ignored it. He shielded her body as he flew through a glass window, he was taking her home.

Jacob

We watched that monster er well, Enzo, fly through the glass with Valentina's lifeless body. I still couldn't come to terms with what happened. She was dead, my best friend was dead. "This isn't happening." I mumbled to myself. The baby in my arms started wiggling, then a high pitched scream left him.

I almost dropped him to cover my ears. Everyone was cringing, holding their ears. The ground shook with the sound of the wail, almost making me lose my balance. "What did you do!" Rayne hissed at me. The baby's mouth was open and that terrible wailing was coming from him.

Another glass broke, and we all looked up. The Beast had returned. He landed gracefully in front of me, Valentina still in his arms. He must not have gotten far. He growled, holding his leathery arms out. I looked around in confusion.

"He wants the baby." The guy Thazar said, still holding his ears.

"What? No! I'm not giving this monster Valentina's baby." The Beast snarled.

I felt a light touch on my arm. I looked over at Rayne. "Whatever that thing is, it's still Enzo. Somehow he's connected to it, and I know he won't hurt his son." I eyed the monster that was eyeing me. A long reptilian tongue darted out between its lips. Not too long ago it was about to attack me. "Plus I don't think you have a choice." She was right, the look in his eyes told me he was trying to be patient. But he had no problem taking the baby by force. If she was right about Enzo being in there, then I knew I couldn't keep his baby from him.

Sighing I reached out, placing the bundle atop of my friends lifeless body, the wailing stopped instantly. It cradled them both to its chest, then turned to leave.

I watched as the small dragon that was by Valentina earlier flew to them, landing on the Beast shoulder. It snarled at the dragon, but the dragon stood it's ground. They had a stare off, then the Beast shot out the window, leaving once again.

Without the baby I felt like I failed her. She trusted me with her son, now she was dead and I just handed off her only blood to a monster.

A sob escaped me as my knees gave out. It was wrong to use the words dead and Valentina in the same sentence, it didn't belong. Not with her, she was a fallen, she wasn't supposed to die again. How can she do this to me? Did she expect me to just go on with life without her? She was the only family I had. "He'll take care of him." A figure crouched down next to me. I looked at Rayne through blurry eyes.

No matter what she just witnessed, she would never understand what I just lost.
