Chapter

Tapping on the screen, Adriane replied to the message.

Adriane: [Why didn’t you wait for me?]

There was no reply from Juliette even after Adriane waited for a long time. Adriane sighed and placed her phone on the couch.

After experiencing betrayal in her past life, it was not difficult for Adriane to guess what the Stewarts were planning. The Stewarts left her in Jenkins” manor to make her take care of Arthur, who was ill. She was Arthur’s fiance, after all.

They could make sure Adriane would get along more with Arthur if she stayed with him. With that, they could ensure that the marriage would go on as planned.

However, they were so anxious that they did not give Adriane time to pack up her things.

After a busy day and catching a cold, Adriane felt a little dizzy and fell asleep on the sofa.

She once again dreamed of Juliette and Alexander..

Juliette had poor health and poor coagulation ability since childhood. The situation was worse since Juliette had a rare blood type. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart regarded her as their treasure and often taught Adriane to take care of Juliette, like her sister.

Therefore, Adriane would not refuse most of Juliette’s requests.

In the dream, Juliette handed Adriane a drawing board, asking her to draw for her. And the other second, Juliette took away Adriane’s music sheets and made them her own because she liked them. Memories of Adriane’s past with Juliette haunted her dreams.

Suddenly, Adriane saw herself standing in front of Alexander, crying as she asked Alexander, “Why didn’t you love me even after I sacrificed so much for you?”

She questioned Alexander about his intention of joining hands with Juliette to draw blood from her body and take away her eyes. That was the only thing she couldn’t let go of in her past life because she did not understand why they would harm her when she had already given up on Alexander and

chose to live her life without him.

Amid her dream, she heard someone calling her name.

At first, it was vague, but it became clearer.

Finally, she seemed to emerge from the water suffocating her and opened her eyes, panting heavily. The light in the room was a little bright, and she squinted her eyes involuntarily.

After adapting to the intense light, Adriane looked around and noticed Arthur was not far away from her, frowning.

He was still in a wheelchair, but he had changed into a black casual attire that made his skin look even paler. A blanket hung over his long legs. It was a little messy, as though he had pulled it off him.

Arthur pressed the button on the arm of the wheelchair. The wheelchair moved away from the sofa Adriane was sleeping on, keeping a distance between

them.

Arthur’s dark eyes swept across Adriane’s face, and he said monotonously, “Wipe your tears.”

“Huh?” Adriane had just woken up, and she felt like her energy had drained out of her body. She felt colder than before.

She sat up in a daze, wiped her face with the back of her hand, and found that tears were rolling down her face.

“So, Arthur just came over and saw me crying?” Adriane was instantly darted up from the sofa when that thought struck her.

She knelt on the sofa. Her white gown moved up, revealing her flawless calves. With an abnormal flush in her cheeks and a husky girlish voice, speaking gibberish, “I’m sorry. I fell asleep without realizing I was asleep. I came to say goodbye, and now that you are awake. I’ll leave.”

Chapter 8

With that, she tried to stand up, but her arms lost their strength, and she fell onto the sofa again

She was confused and tilted her head in a puzzle. “Huh?”

Then she chuckled embarrassedly. “I might need a little more time.”

Instead of saying anything. Arthur controlled his wheelchair and left Adriane alone on the sofa..

Not knowing what was going on in Arthur’s mind, she decided not to explain either.

Two minutes later, he came back to her. He threw a thermometer at her and said, “Measure your body temperature.”

“Why?” Just as she asked, she saw Arthur’s eyes gazing deeply at her. They were telling her not to question him.

Adriane muttered silently, “Hmph! Mr. Control Freak.”

She pursed her lips as she thought that and obediently placed the thermometer under her tongue.

Puffing her cheeks unhappily, Adriane could only stare at Arthur as they waited because she could not speak with the thermometer in her mouth.

As the thermometer beeped, she pulled it out and read the reading, “100.04 “F…”

Adriane frowned. She could not understand how she ended up getting a fever.

Arthur was ill, and Adriane was afraid that he might be infected too. So, she silently backed a few steps away from him as she said, “It’s alright. I’ll be fine after taking some medicine when I get back home.”

Arthur frowned, but he still looked as handsome as ever, even with that frown on his face, “It’s midnight now. Where are you planning to go back this

late?”

Adriane was taken aback when Arthur told her the time. She had not realized that she had slept for so long.

Before she could think of something, Arthur had decided, “Stay here tonight.”

Adriane’s first reaction was to refuse Arthur’s kind offer. After all, she had not informed Albert about staying over at Arthur’s place th

were all at the Stewarts‘ mansion. It would be very inconvenient for her to stay in Arthur’s place without them.

Most importantly, Arthur was scary. He was unpredictable, and Adriane could not guess what his next decision would be.

t night. Her things

Arthur noticed Adriane’s hesitation, and at last, he spoke with a slightly impatient tone in his voice, “A mere punishment of breaking that maid’s leg scared you so seriously and even made you ill. You even cried in your dreams, What a weak woman.”

Adriane was again speechless. She thought, “I would have almost forgotten about the maid if you hadn’t mentioned her. I had a fever because you locked me up in that room, and I caught a cold. It was not the punishment that made me cry in my sleep. I cried because of that bast rd Alexander. And, did you call me weak?”

The dizzy feeling from the fever almost engulfed Adriane’s rationality. She sat on the sofa, clenched onto her gown, and said with her cheeks puffed, “I

am not scared.”

Unfortunately, Arthur had already labeled Adriane as a weak woman in his impression of her. Helplessly, he took the blanket on his lap and threw it on the sofa, saying, “Cover yourself.”

Adriane sniffled. In the end, she took the blanket and covered herself because she could not endure the cold air from the air conditioner anymore. The warmness of the blanket comforted Adriane.

She smiled sweetly at Arthur. Her messy hair made her look silly but cuter than usual, “Thank you.”

Arthur kept a straight face. Although he had been tutoring her, Adriane could feel a fint of concern in his words, “Since you are going to be with me from now on, you will have to build up your courage.”

Adriane had given up on explaining herself. She nodded her head, “Okay”

Chapter 6

Arthur felt like pinching Adriane’s rosy cheeks when he saw her nodding her head determinedly. But, he suppressed that embarrassing urge of his.

Arthur knew that he was partially responsible for Adriane’s illness. So he dialed a number and said something to someone through the phone.

Soon, the pantrymen brought Adriane food to eat and clothes to change into. A doctor came along with them. He examined Adriane and prescribed her some medicine after diagnosing that it was just a common cold.

Adriane had no appetite, but she wanted to take a bath. It was already midnight and impossible for her to go back to the Stewarts‘ mansion that night. So, she decided to ask Arthur if she could take a bath in his mansion.

Holding the new clothes, she asked Arthur softly. “Mr. Arthur, is there anywhere that I can take a bath, perhaps?”

Arthur’s face was still pale, but his gaze on her flushed face deepened. Then he said helplessly, “In your room, of course.”

“Oh…” It dawned on her that she did not have to sleep with her fiance today. She knew that she had the habit of tossing around in her sleep and was afraid that she might hurt Arthur or kick him off the bed.

As for being shy… Of course, she was blushing when the thought of sleeping with Arthur on the same bed emerged in her mind. But she was more afraid of him than shy of sleeping with him.

Arthur leaned back in his wheelchair. He looked away and said coldly, “Give up the thought of sleeping with me. I won’t let that happen.”
