Chapter 17 

Yael knew clearly how bad Arthur’s health was, so he was extremely anxious. “Arthur, if you insist on staying here, you will catch a cold.” 

In the past, Arthur would never take a fever seriously, but now it is different. His resistance was too weak. An ordinary cold would make him stay in bed for several days. 

But Yael could not change anything that Arthur had made up his mind to do. He even asked leisurely, “What time is it?” 

Arthur took a look at his watch and answered in the crackling rain, “One fifty–seven in the afternoon.” 

“Okay.” Arthur knocked on the armrest with his fingertips and thought that it would be almost two o’clock in three minutes. 

When she saw him, she would probably be so surprised. What if she was so moved that she cried? He frowned and was a little worried because he did not know how to comfort girls. 

Three minutes passed quickly. The car that should have appeared in front of the villa did not come 

Noticing the atmosphere changing, Yael asked gingerty, “Arthur, let’s wait in the villa. It’s raining heavily. Adriane will surely understand.” 

Arthur said angrily. “Who told you that I’m waiting for her?” 

Though his anxiety was so obvious, he would not admit it. Yael glanced at him and did not dare to unmask his real thoughts. 

Ten minutes later, the car still did not show up. Arthur’s trousers were all wet by the rain. Yael could not stand it anymore, so he said, “Arthur, let me call her. Maybe the heavy rain made her late on the way.” 

An unnatural look flashed across Arthur’s face. His face was pale, but his sitting posture was even more straight. 

“Did I ask you to call her?” It was only ten minutes later. It would seem that he could not wait if he called her. 

Sitting in the pouring summer rain, Arthur was no longer calm. It was not because of the uncomfortable weather, but because he wondered if Adriane 

would not come back. 

It was said that her father had spent a lot of effort in persuading Jenkins family to allow Adriane to live in the manor. Having been pushed out by her so called family without hesitation, would she vent her anger on him? 

The rain was noisy, and as time passed, Arthur’s face became paler and paler. 

Finally, at half past two, he allowed Yael to call Adriane. 

A man picked it up and said that Adriane was horse racing with someone. He would tell her to call back later. 

Yael hung up and was quite confused. Was she not coming to the manor of Jenkins family today? Why did she go horse racing halfway? 

Seeing Arthur’s serious expression, Yael was too afraid to say anything 

“Where is she?” Arthur asked coldly and coughed violently. 

Yaci shuddered and whispered, “Adriane is… horse racing with other people.” 

“Oh” Arthurlaughed, but it was even more frightening. Another series of violent coughs followed. He was gloomy and tired. “Push me upstairs.” 

Yael breathed a sigh of relief, hurriedly pushed the wheelchair back, and racked his brain to find an excuse for Adriane, “She may have been forced..” 

Arthur said impatiently, “Shut up.” 

It was all of his own amorous feelings. He thought she would be sad, so he waited for her in the rain for dozens of minutes. Unexpectedly, she went horse racing with others!

Yael was right. Adriane was forced. She has been smart since childhood and learned everything very quickly, but she had a poor sense of direction. She could get lost even with navigation. 

Sitting in Zack’s car, she looked at the scenery going backward outside the window and felt somehow strange, even if she had walked this road more 

than once. 

It was reasonable to say that even if there was a traffic jam from the Stewart family’s house to Jenkins family’s manor, it should be there in 40 minutes. However, she only saw that there were fewer and fewer buildings along the road and the scenery became more and more desolate. 

“Where are you taking me to?” Adriane asked coldly, realizing something was wrong 

Zack burst out laughing and asked foolishly, “Adriane, did you find the way wrong?” 

“Don’t talk nonsense. Believe it or not, I’ll call the police now.”

He said while driving the car, “Just play for a few hours. I’ll send you there before evening. The people that come here are all my friends and you don’t have to be afraid. They heard that you are good–looking so they all want to know you.” 

Adriane caught on to what was going on. This happened in her previous life as well, but Zack took her to a fine club at that time. 

If Jenkins family was regarded as upper class, Zack was just a nobody who just benefited from association with this family. But this man was the same as Rebel, who would go where there was anything to be got. 

Zack could not catch up with top rich people like Alexander. Those who mingled with him were young men who had little status in the family but were 

not short of money. 

The money to buy his car was even borrowed from others. 

Since he talked about having a beautiful cousin, his friends had been clamoring to see her. To satisfy his vanity, Zack promised to bring her. 

In her previous life, after Adriane was cheated into the club by him, Zack kept persuading her to drink with everyone. The men stared at her one by one, 

eager to get her drunk and drag her away
