Why was he calling so early in the morning? 

She guessed he was either calling to persuade her against looking for Baldwin, or to convince her to join his company trip. 

Her answers for both issues were no, so she decided to ignore his call. 

He used to neglect her calls all the time, so she figured she should let him have a taste of his own medicine. 

Putting her phone on silent, she strode out of the door and left for Baldwin’s research 

Institute. 

To her surprise, she found Kylie there as well. 

Mikayla never encountered Kylie ever since she was injured at the Miller’s party. 

The coincidence caught her off guard. 

Kylie was dressed in an elegant dress with a fitted blazer, looking sophisticated while exuding an air of professionalism. 

A few strands of her hair falling across her forehead indicated her attempt to cover her 

wound. 

Despite her makeup, she still looked quite frail. 

Mikayla thought Kylie was really diligent. 

She admired how Kylie was so eager to come to work after being discharged from the hospital, despite being injured by the lighting fixture. 

In her previous life, Kylie was hospitalized for a few weeks despite her minor injury. 

Of course, Jerome accompanied her for a few weeks as well.

She couldn’t stop spamming his phone to get him to visit her.

She strode past her, yet Kylie stopped her. “Mrs. Miller.” 

Mikayla halted. 

“What is it?” 

“I wanted to apologize to you for what happened at the party,” Kylie said. 

She continued, “I’m sorry that your reputation was ruined because of me by ignorant people exaggerating what happened. Jerome only cares for me as a friend. There’s nothing going on between us, unlike what the news said. I hope you didn’t misunderstand.” 

Mikayla smiled. 

“Ms. White, you’re contradicting yourself. You said Jerome cares for you, yet in the next second you said there’s nothing going on between you two. And you have the audacity to ask me not to misunderstand. Seriously?” 

Kylie flushed. 

Mrs. Miller, maybe I didn’t express myself clearly. Jerome and I aren’t like what you Imagined. He’s very busy, and I don’t want to burden him because of me.” 

Mikayla saw right through her tricks. 

She only bothered to explain for Jerome’s sake, because she didn’t want Mikayla fussing 

about it to him. 

Mikayla snorted and quipped, “You’re so kind, aren’t you? People might actually mistake you as his wife instead.” 

However, Kylie seemed unaffected at all. 

Smiling, she answered, “I firmly believe in treating others with love and care. I’ll treat people the same way they treated me.” 

Mikayla was positive that Kylie was trying to taunt her. 

Just as she was about to respond, she suddenly spotted Kylie’s earrings when she tucked. her hair behind her ear. 

The earrings were shaped like orchids, with diamonds adorned on its petals, looking staggeringly similar to the pair Jerome gave her that day. 

It was easy to tell that they were both designed by the same designer.
